  1. I'm starting to like Sessions a little bit.
  2. All the same issues plagued him even when healthy. I had bought shares in Buxton taking the next step too...but injuries are not the only thing that derailed him. Old habits and a bad approach seemed to rear their head too.
  3. I agree the messaging has been poor. I advocated shutting him down after the wrist as well, this was a lost season then. Though I think leaving him no chance to rehab might have lead to the same angst of today.
  4. He was also not walking and striking out a bunch. Those are much better indicators of a sustainable performance than slapping some singles around. Sorry, he was not dominant. His 150 ABs down there have yielded a .765 OPS and a 42-9 strikeout to walk ratio. That's a player who still hasn't figured it out.
  5. So you want the Twins to hand him CF next year? People, we're losing our minds here.
  6. Money is a factor, but team control means he can't walk away because of money. You can plan on him being on your roster, that has far more value to the organization than the dollar amount attached to his name.
  7. Dozier is still not hitting well. Why, and at what price, would you want to extend him? You kept telling us his binge was right around the corner and he's running out of time for it.
  8. Also, yes, New Mexico is awful, but a lot of good teams looked bad the first week. The Gophers won with a bunch of true freshman and looked pretty good. They won't make real noise, but it's definitely a positive. But holy crap New Mexico, I've seen Pee Wee teams tackle better. That Winfield return was a clinic in awful tackling.
  9. He had two great months. He has had many more lousy months. If we have to trade him because he's so awesome and won't resign here - I'll take that problem. Right now he's filler in a trade at best. His career numbers offensively are simply not good. And the sample is no longer small. These are facts. Facts I hope change, but facts.
  10. Gaining one year of service time is actually extraordinarily valuable if Buxton becomes a competent to good major league hitter. The problem, of course, is that we have very little evidence so far that he will. What we have is a bunch of us wishfully thinking our plan with him will bring that Byron out for 162 games, but none of us know with any certainty what would work. I hope this plan works. And if it doesn't, I hope the next thing we try works. There is clearly talent there, but there are now over 1,000 PA that indicate he may be a bust. Let's hope this strategy, and whatever they do in the offseason, reverses that.
  11. For Matt Wile? That's a head scratcher. Shane Lechler was out there too.
  12. Unless he's had a broken toe for the last four years, I don't really buy it. And it doesn't explain why AAA guys are striking him out like crazy. People keep trying to blame the broken toe but Buxton's hitting issues long pre-date that. And have continued since.
  13. None of us know what will help, but most of us (all?) that are ok with this are banking on this factor. Hell, all the arguments being made have some wishful component of what will help. So your prior criticism can pretty much be applied universally and with similar skepticism.
  14. Want to expand the sample size? It doesn't help. Want to look at his k rate in AAA? Also not helpful. I'm ok with people being frustrated by a service time decision, but let's be real here: the vast majority of Buxton's MLB time has been awful. So let's save the excuses please. Buxton has done himself no favors.
  15. Buxton will be mad at the FO and has some cause to be. He also could have, you know, hit his way past a .383 OPS this season and helped with the decision. .383 OPS, look at that again.
  16. The factor you aren't including is what is done between now and then to improve the confidence in him going into 2019. Cave is nothing special, but at least you have three viable OFs on the roster not including Buxton and there is certainly the financial room to add someone like Marwin Gonzalez (or some other non-lefty OF) to help supplement. My confidence is low in the short term, but I haven't given up on him in the long-term. If I'm the Twins I spend the next 7 months doing anything possible to turn his talent into production. What that is....I don't know, it's beyond my pay grade.
  17. If this thread is any indication? Pitch Ryan LaMarre.
  18. TJ Clemmings anyone? Seriously though....Dan Bailey might be worth it.
  19. No notable OL so far. B-rob cut though.
  20. Some reports indicate the wrist is still an issue. And while he may not be struggling, he is far from dominating. He hasn't forced the Twins hand and the games are meaningless. There is no good reason to call him up IMO. All the reasons listed are about keeping up appearances. Nuts to that.
  21. If the question comes down to "is he a major league baseball player"? I'd say the majority of the evidence says "No" At least not yet.
  22. Sounds appropriate - enjoyable at first but once you start digesting it you regret the experience.
  23. I guess I think the reason to not call him up is rather straight-forward.... His play has far from demanded it.
  24. Also a good point. They may be switching from coddling him to a swift kick in the rear. I'm game for anything to salvage his talent.
  25. This is a cop-out and the kind of argument about manages that really irritates me. You tried to slam Molitor for hititng a power hitter lead-off and immediately got that point demolished by truth/facts/evidence. You don't get to move the goal-posts and then accuse Van of not sufficiently answering the question. You said this: If you want a concrete example, can you name any other team that used their power bat to lead off? The answer is yes. Lots of them. And lots of the other complaints you and others have are driven only through a limited knowledge of what other teams are doing. Not facts, but by the absence of them. Jimmer has pointed this out about fans and bullpen management. Again - the vast majority of these criticisms lack relevant context and, because of that, aren't all that relevant at all.
