  1. Good for him. I don't need to see any more of Ervin to see he's pretty much toast. At least for this season and his time with the Twins.
  2. Yes, is his manager? I'm not saying it's just white Americans on this issue. Pedro is one of the worst mouthpieces for this childishness. But clearly the Asian nations can play the game, have bat flips, have fun, and not feel the need to attack each other over it. Anyone who thinks themselves old school should be upset that a player whose team was getting it's ass kicked decided to attack the other team physically rather than beat them on the field. It's adult pouting. Nothing more or less. We can play baseball without it.
  3. The wrist is a major concern. And as an active base stealer and diving CFwr it might be time to find the wrist equivalent to Bond's elbow armor.
  4. It shouldn't be complicated. And we know it doesn't have to be. Other cultures play this game without any of this.
  5. I'm going to spend the rest of the night wondering how bad our pitcher's grandchildren will suffer PTSD from the experience. The horror.
  6. Well, 2014 and 2015 probably deserve to be mentioned too. His injury history is a bit checkered.
  7. Celebrating a home-run only injures your ego if you let it. Same for a pitcher celebrating a strikeout. But a HBP? A hitter has no such choice when beaned with a 97 mph heater. Then it's just luck.
  8. The only neo sensitivity I see is the punk who couldn't get a guy out so he tried to hurt him instead. Fake tough guys are nothing but whiny and easily butt hurt. If Joe in sales is kicking your ass you don't huck a stapler at him. That's called being a punk. (Or worse) Baseball needs to grow up.
  9. I agree with your point at the end and I'm no expert on training elite athletes....but dinky injuries like this are not new for him. He's missed a lot of time over his development for these sorts of injuries as well. I look at the last four weeks with the big league club as a mental restart and the offseason as a chance for a physical restart. We have to do something to help him endure the rigors of a baseball campaign. At this point, if people believe his injuries have led to his offensive issues, I don't see any reason to have optimism about his offense until we find a way to stem the injury tide.
  10. Like so many issues like this that come down to deeper philosophical conceptions, the answer is more difficult than we frequently like to admit. So I'm right there with you.
  11. No, I don't think anyone is. But the issue of what prison should look like sort of naturally weaves into this discussion. Otherwise we're left with the question you correctly asked about the difference between life imprisonment and death. And I have no better answer to that than I do the larger issue - "it's complicated"
  12. As a Twins fan it feels so foreign to me that have a team on the cutting edge. *Brain explodes*
  13. If you are going to blame Buxton's hitting issues on injury, then you need to examine that issue and not use it as an excuse. He's hurt all the time. This wasn't one injury that derailed this one season. He's largely been a bad hitter and frequently been hurt. The two might be entwined, but even by themselves both are serious problems. I'd like to see him on a regiment to strengthen his durability and resilience. I don't want to see him again this year and risk his brittle physique taking another injury that derails his readiness for next year.
  14. See, for me, the only example I'd consider is child molester. Based on data we have about recidivisim, they are the worst. And in Minnesota we are battling that very issue with due process and keeping people in "treatment" that looks an awful lot more like imprisonment. I'm with gunnathor, we need to do more than just imprison. Prisons themselves tend to make people worse than actually rehabilitate them. Of course....rehab ain't cheap either.
  15. When do you guys see it as making sense? What sort of situations?
  16. I understand the appeal of Option 1, but this is probably a no brainer: It's Option 2. You spend the offseason helping him build up his resilience and durability to injury and hit the reset button. The only reason to do Option 1 is emotional, so I'd rather go with the more rational option.
  17. That was a weird turn around. I'm looking forward to hearing more about these abnormalities and how they were resolved so quickly. I'm happy for Dozier though.
  18. In general, I'm not a fan. I think our criminal justice system is built, at least partially, on the idea of redemption. We need to do a better job enabling that in a number of ways, but eliminating capital punishment should be one of those steps IMO.
  19. I would guess anything with Forsythe next year depends on the readiness of Gordon. And he's so up and down it's hard to know what to think on him. But he should be up next year at some point I'd imagine.
  20. "Comically oblivious". Well said. 2019 for Kiriloff and Lewis....I love the thought....can't help but be more pessimistic about that. Or are you just talking September?
  21. I hope he gets a few more starting opportunities this year, but I can't see any future in him outside of the pen. Even with a better year this year, he just doesn't have much in his minor league profile to suggest he can be an effective major league starter.
  22. Mike Hughes made a couple plays (granted, preseason) where the Antoine Winfield comparisons looked spot on. He was super instinctive and aggressive against the run. And he looked stupid fast/fluid in coverage. Waynes was hyped for his speed but I never saw it jump out at me as a Viking, but Hughes just looks smooth. I'm really going to watch him the next few weeks, he could make an already great defense ridiculously difficult to deal with.
