  1. Did I read a different article? I don't want to be accused of defending the owners, I'm certainly of the belief the players need a bigger piece of the pie (specifically minor league players), but most of this article seems to suggest that the middle and bottom of the pack in baseball are not raking in hundreds of millions of dollars. In fact, the Braves lost money for several years up to this one. And half the profits came from the one-time Disney deal. If anything, this further illustrates the disparities in baseball and how much the media deals for the major markets like drive enormous profit margins for some while other teams float around break even and rely on increases in team value to justify them as a financial asset. I read this and wonder how enormous the profits are for LA, NY, Bos, and the other markets with sweetheart TV deals.
  2. Hell, Bradford got more than double that and he isn't even mediocre. And there are other examples too. I'm not sure if Kaep would actually be better than McCoy FWIW. His play was starting to tail off before the league pulled the shenanigans to oust him. And he's been out of football for awhile now.
  3. It's a good win and there is some small progress, but it's hard to judge. They had some really good wins (at Wisconsin, dominate Purdue, beat Fresno) and some absolutely inexcusable losses.
  4. Counterfactuals man. You are neck deep in them and I'm not sure you understand that.
  5. I'm not sure you can sign a QB and play them four days later, just to hit this from a practical perspective. The more salient point with Kaepernick is that even if there are 30 better QBs (there are not, FWIW), he's for sure in the top 60. If Sam Bradford can get paid (hilariously), Kap should've too. The best explanation for why he's not being paid is collusion.
  6. Damn....that was well-played.
  7. I respect his love for education, it sucks his shoulder didn't let him live out his baseball dream. But nothing dooms a pitching career like a persistent shoulder problem.
  8. He is the face of hte D-backs, but in Phoenix there are probably as many Cubs fans as D-backs fans. And many more mutts like me who are fans of all sorts of other teams. The D-back hardcore folks will be sad to lose him, but they're bound to lose him either way. With the state of their farm, if they lose him for nothing but a comp pick the team is going to be in dire shape for a long time.
  9. That's a facetious argument though. No one more is going to lead to us winning hte 2018 World Series. It will take a series of moves to accomplish that. Moves that acquire good players like Grienke.
  10. I hope an extension comes with him. And throw in Grienke.
  11. I'm not sure Pax is the hill I want to die on about the FO being aggressive. I get why people would be gun-shy about him. But this team is building a good farm system, within the next calendar year (and much sooner than later would be my preference) - it's time to go out and add some serious talent to this team. I hope they're creative and aggressive, but I can understand not being in on this particular sweepstakes.
  12. No, but if we used that rationale before posting we could all but shut this thing down.
  13. If the red flags with Pax were enough to drive his price down that far....imagine the offers AZ is getting for Grienke and his red flags.
  14. That is a stupidly light package. Ugh. Make the Yanks pay.
  15. I don't think that's fair at all. This team went out and signed the best QB free agent in a long, long time. They tried to make their window, so I'm not sure it's reasonable at all to accuse them of "waiting"
  16. I like that the Bears are going into an early prevent.
  17. Cousins has just been plain bad tonight. That was an awful throw with no pressure.
  18. This team is outstanding at making third and short look impossible.
  19. Man, when Cousins looks terrible, this team looks like it can lose to anyone.
  20. I'm going to chalk that one up to "not misspelled"
  21. Blind squirrels and what not?
  22. Well, I think they could flip North Carolina, Colorado, and Maine. The more difficult options are Iowa, Georgia, Kentucky (make the Rs fight amongst themselves), and Arizona. But let's face it....ultimately their odds may come down to the quality of the candidate they run for President.
  23. We know next to nothing about these men. We have to hope that the FO is organizing the coaching staff around the principles they believe in. And then we'll judge the outcomes.
  24. Looking good again tonight. Amazing what can happen for team play when one guy is jettisoned....
  25. I believe they see dumping Grienke as a fire sale. Goldschmidt is step one of the rebuild. I think you can do both in the same offseason. When Grienke is dealt, I think we'll agree it's a shockingly low return.
