  1. If your immediate response to any signing is "Well...how easy will it be to cut him?" That sorta ends the conversation. If we're making this kind of move, I'd prefer the first question be "How can we find the upside?" We'd be asking that if this was Sonny Gray. Or Dallas Kuechel. Martin Perez would seem to need to transform into an entirely new pitcher to have upside. It's happened before, but dammit....there are guys out there much more likely to be upside acquisitions.
  2. Would've rather beat Cincy's offer for Gray.
  3. At this point he's behind Moya and Rogers as lefties in the bullpen right? I know he was once a top prospect, but this is too much guaranteed.
  4. Yes, there is talent, the problem is that it's inferior to the talent that was previously available. None of whom have signed insanely high deals either. This has been a missed opportunity if we settle for Parker and one of these guys.
  5. I would like to read what Tom wrote but all I see is a giant video of a Twin striking out over the top of it. I think it's hilariously apt...but still I'd like to read what Tom wrote. Anyone else having this issue?
  6. Addison Reed had red flags too. We are angling to guarantee Magill a roster spot at this point. That's just unacceptable.
  7. Yes, overcome with money. At the end of the day, money solves this.. The "ugh, you used to live there!!!" happens to everyone. I hear it from Minnesotans about the heat in Phoenix. All rational people should say that about Florida. Minnesotans would say that about Iowa or Wisconsin. People from Illinois sneer when they say "Indiana" What you experienced is just a thing humans do, it's like talking about the weather. And when you talk about your Florida experience, I can't help but think of the first time I heard that same, bogus rationale in Phoenix. Phoenix is a big city with (supposedly) great weather and do you know what fans and talk radio people say? "Nobody wants to come here..." I laughed out loud the first time I heard it and thought of Twinsdaily. "They won't come here because of the weather" is more like the rationalization you make when you get rejected by a love interest. It's more about patting yourself on the back than anything grounded in reality.
  8. Excellent final paragraph. We the fans are getting soaked by professional sports, but at least the other leagues have salary caps and floors that force certain amounts of efforts towards spending and competition.
  9. Are all these Yankees free agent signings just totally ignorant of the climate in the northeast? That's one hell of an effort if they've pulled off that feat of magic...... I live in Phoenix. They literally whine about the "No one wants to come here" thing too. It's what's made me realize how ridiculous that excuse is.
  10. And now Ottavino off the board. Options are starting to run out.
  11. Isn't part of the deal with Machado that he wants to play SS?
  12. Offer him a deal, even a one year deal. You will get value out of it, even at 30M.
  13. Gray and Allen and I feel comfortable talking about this team being in the conversation to win the division.
  14. Reddit allows me to never have to give MLB another dollar of my money. Mine has already been canceled.
  15. The team needs to sign a guy like this. 3/24 is not going to kill them and the upside is there.
  16. It's the most lackadaisical sprint into a tackle to someone's head I've ever seen. He didn't even cause a decapitation.
  17. I need two more significant signings. Right now, this team is an 80ish win, frustrating team.
  18. Depth in the bullpen has a trickle down effect also. You keep guys fresh, pumping heat, and can play matchups. Look no further than last year for what can happen if your manager only trusts two guys. The answer to the blog's question is: No. It won't kill them, they won't truly be competing for anything noteworthy unless we add more than Parker.
  19. We have seen this happen too often with the Twins for me to welcome it. Either go get a player with upside (Sonny Gray! Sonny Gray!) or go in-house. Our depth in the rotation doesn't look all that different than the OF, 3B, or middle infield. In all of those cases, just like this one, I'd rather have the next man up be a youngster with promise than some roster filler.
  20. Maybe 50M isn't large enough to avoid being thought of as an insult. It's dangerous water to swim in. With so little chance of finding the sweet spot, I really hope the team is just avoiding that conversation altogether. Talk to him about coming in and kicking some serious ass this year. Talk to him about believing in him about planning on him manning CF. But leave the extension talks, too much baggage.
  21. This is really well said. It just doesn't make sense for either side to consider this option right now. Hell, given the acrimony, I hope nobody is even trying. The odds of it cementing hard feelings far outweigh the odds of an agreement.
  22. This should be the third best pen arm we sign. We're running out of options for the first and second.
  23. Sure, but the offer might still make him a very, very wealthy man. That said, I don't think either side is in a position where locking in long term is a great idea. It might be at this time next year.
