  1. A woman I used to work with grew up in Pekin, IL where they were known as the Chinks. True story.
  2. Gladden may not be the best for this... I rarely listen to the radio broadcast unless I'm driving but in this instance that I repeat often, Gladden's call went like this in a one run ball game in the top of the ninth: "Beckham with a long fly ball and it's twisting toward the foul line and it's in the seats." Then nothing. Then me screaming at a stoplight: "Was it ****ing fair or foul?!?!!" Moments later: "Here's the pitch by Nathan. Ball one in the dirt." Me: "Thank ****ing Christ!" That sequence took probably 30-45 seconds without me having any idea what happened.
  3. Technically it was voted on by fans and was supposed to only take into effect collegiate accomplishments: RHP- Big Ben McDonald LSU LHP- Greg Swindell Texas Closer- Huston Street Texas 1B- Will Clark Mississippi St 2B- Todd Walker LSU SS- Alex Bregman LSU 3B- Robin Ventura Oklahoma St LF- Barry Bonds Arizona St CF- J.D. Drew Florida St RF- Joe Carter Wichita St C- Buster Posey Florida St 2-way Player- John Olerud Washington St I think Bregman benefited from currently being in the spotlight but the only positions I had a huge beef with was LF. Bonds is obviously incredible but PETE INCAVIGLIA IN COLLEGE... my God, he was incredible. The only guy to hit 100 home runs in a career, he hit 48 with 138 RBI and a SLUGGING over 1.100 one season. I'm sure some people will say Winfield as 2 way player and that was my initial thought, as well, but Olerud's stats in college were incredible. Likewise, Fred Lynn was my initial pick for CF but I can't argue with Drew being the only 30/30 guy in college history. I don't think McDonald was the best RHP either but that is a personal opinion. I also would have picked Bob Horner over Walker at 2B. Again personal preference. Thoughts on the fans voting results?
  4. Yep!
  5. Luckily we only play Central teams this year. Although Hudler is nauseating.
  6. I'm still not convinced a season will even occur.
  7. It just doesn't happen. Every time baseball expands offense explodes.
  8. LET'S DILUTE THE PITCHING EVEN MORE!
  9. Honestly, what is the point of the runner on second rule in extra innings if they are already starting the season with a THIRTY MAN ACTIVE ROSTER. Only a modern manager could manage to misuse a pitching staff with that many pitchers.
  10. because TEAR EVERYTHING DOWN!
  11. No interleague, no expansion, no wild cards,no DH. Selig had it right when he wanted contraction. Baseball. Fixed.
  12. And as McCarver said, "YOU HAVE TO BE PHYSICAL TO WATCH A GAME HERE!" Very different from the passive, disinterested, selfie taking Target Field crowds. "Look how cool I am! I'm at the new stadium!" Nevermind, that is like someone saying that while at the Dome in 1992.
  13. Good bloodlines. Son of Twins legend Lou Collins and Twins wunderkind Billy Heywood's mom.
  14. I just looked up Matt Adams on baseball ref. His number one player comp is CJ Cron so the world makes sense once again.
  15. Right handed version of Matt Adams?
  16. Here's a recap of the thread for those that don't want to read through it all. The self-righteous and outraged along with those that agree with them are thoughtful geniuses and our morale compass. If you do not FULLY agree with them without exception you are an uneducated and ignorant hillbilly and need to be educated on the right or wrong stance so you can fall into place. No one's closet is clean and I'm sure a lot of posters (including myself) have done things worse in their lives than not vocally condemning police violence.
  17. Jacque Jones hitting a solo home run for our only hit off Garcia to win the game actually had me believing we would come back and win the division.
  18. Rocco. I really would have liked to have seen Dick Stigman brought into the 5th inning with the game on the line.
  19. I was at Nationals Park a few years ago and they have stuff commemorating both the Expos and the Twins.
  20. There should honestly be a book written about this team. I just don't think there's a market for TWO teams that didn't win the world series in 2002 to have a book written about them. I'd add the game that broke Oakland's 20 game winning streak as a pivotal game.
  21. 2001 had some of the most fun regular season games I've ever watched as a baseball fan. What sticks out to me is that the young Twins went toe to toe with the big, bad Yankees and took 2 out of 3 in each series with lockdown pitching, both out of the rotation and the bullpen. Even the fans showed they had good arms on one occasion! The other thing that sticks out is that instead of trading prospects for established players to fortify a roster, Terry Ryan kept creating one hole to fill another. I've heard the rumors that he thought he had Shannon Stewart to replace Lawton. Obviously he didn't and we missed Lawton much more than we gained by acquiring Reed. And trading a young and promising starter like Redman for a closer is unexplainable. Fun fact about Todd Jones. I have a number of 2001 games on VHS and when I watched them maybe around 2010 or so, the Twins were playing the Tigers and Dick was talking about the Tigers trying to unload veterans at the trade deadline and mused that Detroit would be hard-pressed to find someone who would take Jones off their hands. In retrospect, I remember that comment because I always like to point out the ridiculous things Dick says during the telecast and this was obviously a terrible trade.
  22. Isn't this what MLBN already does when they are not televising live games? They pretty much jump from game to game during the key moments.
