  1. I struggle with Ryan and Thielbar having the same WPA in this game. Any tough situations Caleb gets credit for he would also get the blame for. You can't pitch yourself into a save situation. Joe doesn't get appropriate credit for 6 innings of loss avoidance. Duran, on the other hand. All the WPA tomorrow.
  2. The coaches are our biggest allies most of the time. Same as with their players, they will tell their fans to shut it before I even have to say anything. If the ump needs yelled at, I'll be doing it, type thing. Most experienced coaches are on that wavelength. They can also be ejected for their fans behavior at a lot of locations so they have that motive as well. Fortunately it's usually not that bad. I do put a lot of effort into knowing my job and hustling to be in position and I know that helps to get a neutral crowd. Don't get in the way of a good game.
  3. Can't say not out, it sounds too much like out. It's an emphatic safe arms and maybe slap the ground. Voice can be safe, no catch, no he didn't etc but never not out. No one hears the not part. As to your first question about what we do when we screw up or there is a chaos play? All you can do is conference with your partner(s) and piece it together as best as possible. I'm comfortable overturning myself if my partner is confident, not all are but it's a much better presentation of confidence than not doing it. Sometimes we do conference for appearances. It's really hard to anticipate what 13-18 year olds will do on a baseball field, even the higher level travel ball stuff I work. City league games are like recess sometimes. In a lot of ways the higher levels are easier to work as it's easier to know where things and people are supposed to be.
  4. I'm starting to think this is part of the reliever collection in the offseason. Sands isn't the traditional failed starter model, he was just the sacrificial long guy who would have never cracked the rotation last year. Falvey's comments come as close to confirming it as he will ever say. I expect him to go as one of the three moves coming. I think an injury is the next move. I still think Farmer is dealing with something and there is no telling who has been less than 100% to get through the lean times. Miranda goes over Martin depending on who the injury might be. Less flexibility, less future plans, less current performance. I'd also keep Miranda at AAA as much as possible as the best way to push up his trade stock.
  5. Yeah, true. I guess not everything perfectly right. Forgot all about that guy. Is nice the Twins injuries are not long term for the most part.
  6. I'm actually kind of intrigued by this, its a shame to have 30 more posts of reliving the off-season rather than discussing Cole Sands. The question doesn't have much to do with the needs of the team, although fitting in perfectly with those needs is a nice bonus. It might very well fit in with a pretty standard development plan for a pitcher. He's not so much failed starter as last years sacrificial long reliever. They thought enough of him that there was a spot for him on the roster even if he wasn't used much. He's showing good stuff and an ability to get major leaguers out but he's not exactly Duran just yet. Considering Falvey's recent comments I'm wondering if this wasn't always the plan, with the stocking up on relievers. The more I think about it, I expect him to go down when Topa or Duran is ready and start to stretch out. A Kuechel like role in the last half of the season would be pretty solid with upside Kuechel didn't bring.
  7. Are they as bad as they looked in the first 20 games? No Are they as good as they looked against the Pale hose and Angles? Also no. Would I like to see this weeks version of the squad against that tough opening schedule? Yes, yes I would. Obviously, they will want to be at full strength when they see the Brewers, Orioles and Dodgers again. But the team we have seen lately is playing at a level that can complete with anyone. The at bats are night and day different. Bad pitching? Maybe a little but the approach has been miles better. Ultimately the depth did what they needed it to do. .500 when Correa and Duran return should keep them from pressing, just do what they do. It's really stunning how much talent is coming as reinforcements soon. The Guardians had everything go right for a month, and what did it get them? Viva la sausage!
  8. Just read the story Provus referred too. I'll be pulling for him.
  9. Putting the sausage forward? Won't someone think of the children!
  10. There has been quite a bit of putting the ball forward lately.
  11. The banana advisory council needs to get it together.
  12. What's with all the anti-banana advertising behind the plate?
  13. Ron Wash is getting plenty of teachable moments. These guys will be much better when we see them again in September.
  14. Starting to see some hard contact, breakthrough coming.
  15. Bashbury? My apologies but I wasn't aware of that branch of the bury tree. What is the totality of the bury tree, or is it fully known?
  16. The real insight to this article is the window into Rocco's daydreams. I'm sure some would have thought he daydreams about the walk to the mound to pull a starter in the 5th.
  17. MLB execs value a healthy pitcher way more than an injured pitcher.
  18. I'm not even sure what my narrative would be other than happy none of the injuries are long term. 7-13 is not the end of the world, but it was annoying watching them look like they didn't know which end of the bat to hold for a while. Obviously that wasn't going to continue. This roster is good. Team is starting to perform.
  19. What if I already have a different narrative for April? I'm stubborn like that.
  20. See, this is why Margot was in the 3 hole.
