  1. He wore his vests front ward too.
  2. I like the sausage replacement
  3. One of my favorite things to watch in all of baseball. I am also sad when my Ferrari breaks.
  4. It returned the balance of L and R hitters that seemed off after Lewis came back. The positions will be a little different but plenty of pieces to move around. My first thought was that Wallner was coming back and I was thinking it would be even tougher to make lineups in that case with only outfield/DH available. Maybe part of Martin being the choice is that he fits the balance better.
  5. This was my thought reading the headline and barely skimming that article. Is this your first day covering the Twins? This is an organization that makes a rookie destroy AAA and be functional on defense for several months before considering ceding minimal playing time in the bigs. And that's for a utility outfielder type. A catcher is so far off the spectrum of something they would experiment with I can't even believe this passed the admittedly low bar for Twins Daily content. Vazquez is worth $10m to me. I guarantee they are fine with it too. Now that he's hitting a bit, the stove is ice cold.
  6. The comparison isn't to Jose Miranda, necessarily. Payroll aside, the comparison is to the one year rental you can sign for 70% and no long term commitment. When that one year guy can be an RH outfielder/DH one year or a 1B/3B/DH guy another, something like Alonso is a luxury item. Maybe you can be willing to get the premium one year rental at equal cost if its the perfect roster fit. I would be willing do an even comparison of production after 5 years and there's a pretty good chance Alonso comes in second. Payroll considered, I have to think there will be a TV situation soon that allows something more than $4m and $6m for the rental spot. $15m can go a long way in this role, especially considering an Alonso basically squeezes cost controlled Miranda and Julien off the roster.
  7. Just cause he's not on the 40 man. More importantly, how many years team control and options? Snark aside, team control and options play a factor. If they aren't certain its a huge upgrade, they aren't going to do it, Lee or Holland.
  8. Incorrect. Analytics is the process of sorting data points and assigning particular levels of importance to them. Applied analysis is the process of ranking those levels of importance in a particular situation and choosing the strategy based on your analysis of the most important factors. Rocco believes in the platoon importance over the "hot" hand, generally. Lately, Margot has been getting at bats against RH. Kepler is the lefty most likely to face a lefty. Many things can rank higher in importance than a specific at bat at any given time. We don't have those details. Gut feel is both a data point and an importance level. It's not typically classified as analytics because I can't put it on a spreadsheet but it is absolutely an analytic measure. Old school managers were incredibly analytic, but not quantified. I chuckle that the nerds basically are at the same place as Earl Weaver 50 years ago. Pitching, defense and the 3 run home run. Ol Earl would have loved OPS and OPS+. Most modern baseball fans confuse analysis for quantification of data.
  9. There's a reason Ol’ Gil has the surname Gunderson.
  10. Their transaction log lists him as optioned today as well. No corresponding move yet. I would assume it has to be Wallner which will make for some interesting lineups (and game threading). Was going to pop in and ask if anyone has a good corelation between the dead ball this year and who it effects the most. To me, I think that might be part of the problem. Yes, he's lost now, but he wasn't early in the year. His specialty is the fly ball the other way that carries a surprising amount. It might play into the try to pull the ball adjustments and then he's lost in the mix.
  11. Lots of good approaches and hitting it where it was supposed to go. Hoping it's the dam bursting.
  12. All of these runs are because they love Caleb and are going to miss him.
  13. Dickinson was where we went to go to the store. It was 70 miles.
  14. Let us know what you win. I believe that means blizzards for everyone in the game threads.
  15. Got a lot of KOA in my youth in western North Dakota. 50k blowtorch active at night. It was during the Jon-Benet Ramsey era. Lots of content around Rockies baseball. It's a good station.
  16. I'm old enough to remember when Santana and Margot were cooked too. IL stint coming I would assume.
  17. That's OK Farmer, keep hitting and we will work on baserunning between games. LOL
  18. Had nothing to do with Watkins, Margot was watching the ball to land. As he should have been.
