  1. Clickbait headline aside, it’s a pretty good group and not limited to this years rookies. Bookmarking this article for Ted’s next fire the FO piece.
  2. Looks like they weren't interested in Grichuk or Leone.
  3. Always the ride. This isn't hard, on one hand I get one really good thing and a bunch of crap guaranteed. On the other hand, I get a lot of good stuff with multiple chances at the same really good thing with the upside of multiple really good things. Downside? Not to bad. Anyone want to play poker?
  4. Obviously some are more profit motivated but as a blanket statement this doesn't work. As this is a baseball forum I'll hold off on mentioning some examples of true "cold and calculating profit making organizations". Baseball teams don't even sniff the list. There are a few owners where the team is the main business (Arizona Cardinals are the best example) but for the majority they are hobbies. A hobby that has to support itself, but a hobby. They don't think about money the way you and I do. As for the money of these waivers, a contending team could offset a good chuck of that million bucks with extra gate from a playoff run. Not a large number either way if you are going for it. On the other hand, a team like the Nats or the Cards could claim Giolitto and try to recruit him for a signing. That might be worth 1-2 millions as well. The money in these deals is not really a factor. Any team out there that can fill a late season hole without losing a prospect would spend double if they could pick their guy.
  5. All you have to do is raise your hand, pay the adoption fee and it's yours!
  6. I don't think any of this is crooked as hell. There are already collusion rules in place to cover all this. However, I will forever call it the free puppies deadline going forward. This is on purpose, out in the open and the smartest front offices will be the ones that take advantage of it before it becomes mainstream. It's the obvious result of the new September roster limit. If you want to see your kids play, you will have to remove some folks from the roster instead of just sitting them on the bench. The timing is natural to bolster marginal playoff rosters as the release will have to happen, surprise, at both call up and playoff eligibility time. I'm willing to bet this is on purpose to help postseason interest. Whoever the Braves play got a couple guys and it's more interesting now, etc. The Angels actually did something smart here, at least they are making the best of their other bad choices. A lot of us and other front offices would never have thought about it. They will never tell us but I bet the Twins had a plan for this as they knew they would be in the sweet spot to claim someone. It would make the trade deadline make sense. The Angels are taking all the headlines but there's a bunch of options.
  7. As far as I can tell Correa brought it back. I don't see many others doing it on purpose. It hasn't been a thing since Astroturf days.
  8. Very interested to see what they get, I'd put in claims for all the relievers and maybe just one bat. Not sure how the order works but please don't end up with a bat and not a reliever if they are still available. What I'm really curious about is how much of this was know to be coming throughout the league and how it played into trade deadline decisions. Now with the smaller September roster teams can't just hide these players, they need to move on if they want to see the kids play. It would make sense to me that front offices are looking around the league for likely cuts and anticipating who has to move someone. This may be a new annual tradition replacing waiver trades. It would make the trade deadline cost benefit a little different as well. What was the quote from Falvey? Something like "we had a lot of things going but ultimately the costs just weren't right?" What if they knew cheaper stuff was going to be available? If they don't do anything here, I'll pull out what little back hair I have left.
  9. They talked about it on the radio for a good inning or so. I was just thinking about back in the day when we were watching Cleveland with crazy gobs of young talent while the Twins were at best running in place. It has to feel a bit like that for Cleveland fans right now. They are getting a very good view of the Twins youngsters and just sold at the deadline. It's frustrating and it can't help Titos outlook either.
  10. Oddly enough, the center field part is what is interesting.
  11. Yup, I want to wait for the full list of cuts before I make my wish list. Bader might be nice, a solid reliever would be great. Interesting all the cuts this year. My suspicion is the new limit on September rosters has more effects than just who you can bring up. In the past, a lot of these guys might have just sat on the bench and done nothing. Now, actual players are needed. I also wonder how much of this the FO was anticipating. It might explain some trade deadline things. We shall see.
  12. I would agree. AAA and the bigs need to be somewhat similar. Long term experiments belong in the lower levels and Cape Cod type leagues. That thought process leads me to believe that something is coming next year.
  13. Every time I looked up, it was 0-2. I'm not used to this!
  14. Winder 24 pitches for 3 innings. Very nice work for him and Funderdog.
  15. Game clock in his head. That's not a hard play to read right in front of you. When it looks like it's not going to be a dive work back. A bit to little experience and a little to much faith in youthful legs.
  16. He's hit better than I was expecting but this is what I was talking about when I was urging not to put him in center or move him any farther than third. This, the throw earlier and several other teachable moments are mostly game action related. It's easy to forget how few games he's actually played in his life. Just this week in one of the Athletic articles they were talking about how little high school game action he got as he played all the sports and not travel ball all year. He does seem the type that picks it up quickly though and when he learns the nuance of the game he will only get better.
  17. Sounds like some great energy in the park tonight.
  18. My apologies, had I been aware of the glorious mop on his head I'd have been screaming to call him up much sooner with you all.
  19. But it also looked like he touched? Why no replay?
  20. They changed it, it was originally on Correa. Holy smokes Wallner.
  21. How is that an error on Correa? Official scoring is mind boggling sometimes.
