    Something is going on here. The silence is deafening. I'm not exactly doubting Phil's reporting, but he specifically mentions a Twins spokesman in his tweet. Nobody else has said anything, Twitter is silent and spokesman implies someone said something official. Either someone has bad information or today's official update is catastrophic. 😞

    I have been wondering the same. Not knowing what the injury is, has it advanced to the point when a significant last ditch procedure is called for? Like a miss all of 2024 type thing?

    The pattern is that shaky gloves move. Sticks with functional gloves are not being moved by this FO. Sticks with excellent gloves aren't going anywhere. That means Julien is long gone before Lee or Lewis are even thought about. They simply have to put their money on two way players to stick. Its the slightly higher class small market move. I would be listening to all offers on Julien, quietly. The bat is still looking very good but the weaknesses are not fully exposed. The glove is actually improving and the Twins can play that up. He might be an elite bat so my asking price is very high but I move guys that hurt on defense. I'm also not convinced they will do it this year or next. Lee and Martin are not contributors early next year considering the pattern with vets. We should probably start accepting that Kepler and Polo will be with us to start next year. In this scenario, Polo as a fill in all around the infield including short is not the worst thing. If his legs are good, he will be back to start next year. Playing 4-5 days a week will probably be good for him.

    There is more than one way to beat an ace. In this case, make him work in the heat and a couple extra pitches an inning adds up. I'm sure he would have liked to keep going but consistent pressure works. Also, if this is the game where opposite field hitting was discovered, we will look back very fondly on today.

    I mean, this years team is literally built only for the postseason. We may argue about the quality of that plan, but they are built for October. Which raises an interesting variation on this question. Would you rather your team dominate the regular season or barely get in and be an absolute SOB in the postseason?

    In the fall of 1987 at the age of 9 I had my first sports memory. 4 years later it happened again. I grew up with a very distorted view of sports and expected outcomes. On behalf of Midwestern men of my age, sir, I say nothing. Because that's what Midwestern men say when they are aggrieved. But also, grrrr.

    Let’s not forget that if we give up the ride we give up the hope of a new season, new draft pick, new signing. If we know it won’t work, nobody comes here to talk about it. If we know it’s a lost season, we don’t watch. Now, if we don’t know when in the 10 years the WS win happens you would theoretically have the hope until it happens but then would have to watch a world champion explode dramatically. I, for one, do not relish the idea of a first to worst transition.

    Always the ride. This isn't hard, on one hand I get one really good thing and a bunch of crap guaranteed. On the other hand, I get a lot of good stuff with multiple chances at the same really good thing with the upside of multiple really good things. Downside? Not to bad. Anyone want to play poker?

    Obviously some are more profit motivated but as a blanket statement this doesn't work. As this is a baseball forum I'll hold off on mentioning some examples of true "cold and calculating profit making organizations". Baseball teams don't even sniff the list. There are a few owners where the team is the main business (Arizona Cardinals are the best example) but for the majority they are hobbies. A hobby that has to support itself, but a hobby. They don't think about money the way you and I do. As for the money of these waivers, a contending team could offset a good chuck of that million bucks with extra gate from a playoff run. Not a large number either way if you are going for it. On the other hand, a team like the Nats or the Cards could claim Giolitto and try to recruit him for a signing. That might be worth 1-2 millions as well. The money in these deals is not really a factor. Any team out there that can fill a late season hole without losing a prospect would spend double if they could pick their guy.

    Very interested to see what they get, I'd put in claims for all the relievers and maybe just one bat. Not sure how the order works but please don't end up with a bat and not a reliever if they are still available. What I'm really curious about is how much of this was know to be coming throughout the league and how it played into trade deadline decisions. Now with the smaller September roster teams can't just hide these players, they need to move on if they want to see the kids play. It would make sense to me that front offices are looking around the league for likely cuts and anticipating who has to move someone. This may be a new annual tradition replacing waiver trades. It would make the trade deadline cost benefit a little different as well. What was the quote from Falvey? Something like "we had a lot of things going but ultimately the costs just weren't right?" What if they knew cheaper stuff was going to be available? If they don't do anything here, I'll pull out what little back hair I have left.

    I am impressed with this group, they don't quit and figure out a way to play up to the competition. However, that was not good baseball. There were several individual good performances but they were not from guys named Rocco or Bailey or Joey. That said, there is a vision. They are close to playing good baseball and when they do, they can be really good.

    Thank you. For added perspective losing a game Scherzer starts isn't the worst thing that ever happened. If a reliever has a horrible inning this is what happens. While I've always been on the side of Jax having something else going on no matter when the secondary stats say, he is a mainstay in the pen. They have to figure it out. The postseason pen looks very different from what we see today. Meanwhile, they had a very good game save one pitcher against a stud pitcher and playoff team. The Rangers were not going to lose forever. Still a chance to get 3 of 4. I'm not even mad at a split.

    I could see a move to get him on the 40 man but that doesn't mean he will come up, it just keeps options open. With several others coming back from injury in line first he won't be jumping to the front of that list. I like the idea of keeping him available for the postseason but he's a pinch runner, specialty type. Break glass in emergency but not a contributor.

    I not out on Martin long term, happy to see signs of life but he's just as ready to contribute to the big club as Brooks Lee. As in, not.

    Three weeks ago Martin was a has been. The clamoring here is the last thing in my mind.

    Martin will not come up in place of Castro. Maintaining the flexibility of Castro's option into next year will be incredibly valuable and this late in the year you can't waste it. They will be happy to pay a ML salary for the option next year. That doesn't mean Castro won't have a set back in rehab.

    Two days ago, the bullpen was spent, the Rangers were going to score 75 and the season was over. Whoops, 5 innings and one unearned run from some guys named Winder and Sands the world is good again. This team has something. I can't completely put my finger on it but it's there. Loved the scrappyness tonight and I expect to see more of it going forward. Personally, I would not be beaning anyone in the Waller, Jeffers, Gallo section of the lineup. Not the ideal group to pick a fight with.

    If you are comfortable committing that much money just make the QO. I’m actually in on the QO for Maeda, I’d be comfortable with the one year risk. Starting pitching is generally worth it.

    That's not a bad down side. Worst case he would be a gold glove 1st baseman also.
