  1. His start today was better than any of Slegers's or Santana's starts this season, and about 2/3rd of Odorizzi's. I'd say that he deserves to stay. Next man out of that rotation should be Santana.
  2. Wishing him the best. Not fun trying to swing with a bad hip. It seems that it was bothering him the whole season.
  3. But Santana cannot keep his end of the bargain, can he? If he cannot walk his talk, he should shut up. He sucks. And he has fulifilled about 1.5 years of his 3 year contact. And he is keeping worthy kids in the minors from getting MLB $. I'd rather see Romero take over his starts, but that's me....
  4. A. Ervin Santana has not a "great" career. He was never ever close to a Cy Young award, He has been an average number 3 pitcher in a good team. (Great for him, he made $) B. Comparing him to Maddux, especially after he has been lit by AAAA players this season, kinda, really, surely, absolutely, does not work. C. And he is yet another year removed from PEDs
  5. Indeed. And my take last off-season was that the Twins FO will suck if they do not sell high on Santana and Dozier. (and they did not) Albeit, Santana sucked in the post season in 2017, and he had a (pretty much) under the table surgery that would (allegedly) delay him till late April. ahem Whether the middle finger or not, Santana has lost about 5-6 mph in all of his pitches, and he really needs the Phil Hughes treatment. The Twins will be better server with Romero/Gonsalves/Littell/your-favorite-minor-leaguer (or Pindeda ) taking his starts for the rest of the season. He sucks.
  6. Results? 2016 Kepler: .235/.309/.424 2017 Kepler: .243/.312/.425 2018 Kepler: .234/.325/.421 If anything he has developed slightly better plate discipline that is been shown by the slight increase in isoD, as expected by a player getting closer to his prime. Here is the kicker: Kepler BABIP: 2016: .261, 2017: .276, 2018: .252 Which means that exit velocity and launch angle actually decreased his effectiveness to hit the ball...
  7. Stewart is scheduled to start for Rochester tonight, Romero on Saturday, and Littell on Sunday. Take your pick among the last 2.
  8. Or they might actually see the light and cut/trade Morrison.
  9. Austin is out of options. Ramirez is 2 years removed from being a league average player and he is Mauer's age. I have no issue if they sign him to a minor league contract with a ST invitation to see if he can get his act together and compete for 2 spots with Rooker and Austin... The Red Sox could not flip him this season...
  10. I definitely get the point of the article that some of the secondary prospects the Twins received in the recent trades might produce more than it might look at this stage of their careers. Totally get that, and I hope that's the case. That said, Dozier, Escobar, and esp. Pressly, are far away from being characterized as "stars". If someone were to open a box of 2018 baseball cards, despite that one singe All Star season among them, all of their cards will go to the common and not the star pile. Very useful players, esp. the infielders, but no stars. The two younger ones have the time to become stars maybe, but chances are slim. Is Eduardo Nunez a star?
  11. Missing one piece of data: Since his trade to the Twins, Logan Forsythe is hitting 333/.375/.400
  12. Do you want any of those to pitch for the Twins?
  13. Might have not really looked closely at Smoak then: .252/.360/.469. 127 OPS+ and 3 years younger, and 2.2 bWAR vs 0.8 for Mauer For sure a better option in that list than Mauer. Regardless, I'd say that it is Tyler Austin's job to lose (possibly to Brent Rooker.)
  14. I think that different players develop at different rates. Sometimes a player gets stuck and needs to work on something, no matter how good he has been on everything else. The other consideration here is position and opportunity at the MLB level in that position. Is Lewis a SS or a CF? Will there be openings at those positions at the MLB level? The last thing the Twins want to do is to hurry yet another top prospect. I'd say opening day 2021 is about when I expect to see Lewis, pending injuries/issues etc or surprises (like the Twins win it all in 2020)
  15. The last thing I want to see is Austin at the OF... Field is the best of the healthy guys they had on the 40 man roster. They could had reached in AA and gotten Zander Weil, he deserves it, but they didn't
  16. Un not quite. Santana was an Ace. Berrios is the Twins best pitcher right now. Bit different. Calling him an Ace is almost as back when DickNBert called Scott Diamond that...
  17. Well, they are just below league average, based on OPS+ Which means that Hicks is playing worse than Garver and Goodrum worse than Escobar, the players that were earmarked to be the back up catcher and UT for the Twins in 2018. I know that the Hicks situation happened in 2017 and still Garver was ahead of him,..
  18. I think that he is the anti-Sano in many respects. He is about 130 lbs wet of stick and bones. Cannot survive a full season with some sort of muscle. He has proven it season after season. It will behoove him, and the Twins, if this off-season he hit the gym instead of the recording studio. The Twins should set a playing weight for him for Spring Training. if he does not reach it, he does not get assigned to an affiliate. This kid needs some tough love. The Twins have millions invested in him.
  19. I'd have to think about it. For the Mets, I'd go after deGrom (who has only 1 year of team control) and offer Gibson and Gordon. Then, I'd look to see if I can take some $ off their hands by buying low on Bruce or Cespedes for someone like Kepler. And I'd add Gonsalves to sweeten the deal So we got: deGrom and Cespedes for Gibson, Gordon, Kepler and Gonsalves. I think that it is fair. Tampa: Blake Snell for Kirilloff, Thorpe, and Alcala. Add Wade if you have to. But you won't Done.
  20. Are the Mets a contender? DeGrom or Syndergaard And Blake Snell or even Danny Duffy from the left side. But you got to give up prospects and/or major leaguers and maybe pick up a bad contract to get them. And the Twins need to start doing that. For example, I'd include Kepler in a package that would return Cespedes in a heartbeat.
  21. If the Twins want to compete in the post season in 2019 they will need their rotation to look something like: Starter 1, Starter 2, Berrios, Romero, Pineda. Where starters 1 and 2 are better than Berrios. They got Gibson, Odorizzi, May and a whole lot of prospects (including any pitcher not named Graterol and whole bunch of LHH OFs). They should be able to trade for them if cannot find them as free agents. Half assing it again, won't cut it.
  22. I would buy Jake Reed. Maybe even Kohl Stewart. One could argue that Duffey, Curtiss, and Busenitz had their chances this season and they did not quite open eyes. One of them (Duffey) threw a fit when he was cut and I suspect that the Twins will like to send a message. Drake's numbers in AAA were better than any of the above's. Also in the majors he had a 3.21 FIP, .437 BABIP, and 58.1 LOB%. That might be intriguing enough to give him a chance to show what he has. The Twins' pen collective FIP is 4.22, a whole point higher, and only Taylor Rogers (and Trevor May) have lower FIP than Drake as far as Twins' relievers are concerned right now. I can see why they want to take a flyer. If he does not work, they did not miss much...
