  1. He is better than Slegers...
  2. This has Morneau/Mientkiewicz written all over it: In 2002 Morneau hit .298/.356/.474, 16 HRs in AA. He was ready to be the full time Twins' first baseman in 2003, but TR & Co went with Mientkiewicz for 1.5 seasons more, while Morneau had nothing to prove in AAA This season Brent Rooker is hitting .277/.343/.522 with 20 HRs in AA. And that includes a .250/.275/.364, 1 HR, April. His OPS in July is 1.014 and in June was 1.038. My hope is that this Front Office does not make the same mistake. Rooker should be in the Twin Cities at least by September playing 1B every day to show what he has, and if it works, pencil him in as that starter for 2019. If it does not, assess your options from Mauer to other free agents. But Rooker needs a chance. This season.
  3. Hey that looked like a garden variety Belisle outing for the Twins...
  4. I think that this front office has a plan. And these 5 players picked up looks like they are part of that plan. Two off them can be lights out closers (something that this organization does not have and has not had for a while) starting as soon as about a year from now. Trading leaving FAs for prospects gives much more flexibility in the off-season than losing them for nothing. For. Sure.
  5. Not quite. You just got to get the team in a position to be better than the Astros and the Yankees and the Red Sox and the Indians next season. And to do that the Twins need: a. 2 SPs better than Berrio, b. 2 RPs better than Rodney, plus c. at least one RH power bat and better 2. Plenty of time to shed the bottom of the rotation and middle of the bullpen pieces, and the upcoming free agents, load with prospects and go get what you need this off-season. That's planning and targeted asset divestiture and acquisition. Not curling in the fetal position. The TR years is a proof that half-assing it an living on a prayer never works. Enough with that.
  6. with about 10 teams with a better record in the AL, might be the sane move. No?
  7. Seriously? 7 games under .500 #realitycheck
  8. Cool. He definitely is the throw in as far as this trade is concerned. Numbers or not. Remember Max Murphy and the insane line he put for a year? That's who this guy reminds me of. Murphy is playing for the Saints now btw...
  9. Bit of perspective: De La Trinidad was the Diamondback's 19th round draft pick last year (2017). The Twins 1/1 overall pick of that draft just made it to Fort Myers. Colton Burns, same age, also a LHH OF, who was drafted in the 18th round of 2017 by the Twins is at E-town (and not doing too hot...)
  10. MLB Pipeline now has Gabriel Maciel as 15th in the Twins' system now and Jhoan Duran 20th. Duran has a plus plus fastball and an above average slider/curve, and toying with a change. As a starter he hit 98 in game situations. I see him as a future closer, if his breaking ball kicks up one notch. And the future for him could be as close as 2020. Now lets go sign Esco back this off-season as a FA for a super ulitity role to a 2-3 year contract.
  11. Based on the Eovaldi trade who returned the Rays the Red Sox' number 12 prospect, Lynn and Odorizzi who have similar numbers and fewer health/durability issues, should have at least as much value. Santana, Rodney, Duke, all have some value as well. Agreed on Pressly. They should sell high. But a. not only him and .b should prioritize getting something from the free agents (Santana, Dozier, Escobar, Lynn, Rodney, Duke, Morrison, etc.) instead of letting them walk away for nothing.
  12. 7 games under .500 7 games behind the division 12.5 games behind the wild card no chance to go past 2 of the Yankees, Red Sox, Astros in the post-season. The flag has been raised and the Twins should get something for Dozier and Escobar, which will be better than nothing and they should sell high on both Gibson and Pressly.
  13. Well, he is not going to get better while sitting or playing DH, is he? That's what losing teams do. Use the last months of the season as development time at the MLB level.
  14. Not necessary when a player has a black hole for a bat (.488 OPS / 29 OPS+ for Wilson) vs. a better than league average (.767 OPS/ 110 OPS+ for Garver) bat.
  15. At this point, the Twins should not play anyone who is not part of their future, unless he can be traded. Wilson does not fit that category and the Twins will be better of cutting him, and bringing 26 year old Astrudillo to be Garver's back up. Not only this, but playing Wilson (-0.7 fWAR) over Garver (1.0 fWAR) costs the Twins games...
  16. Let's see: - Robo-umps - Pitching clock - Limited number of substitutions per game - Mandatory roofs due to climate change - Banning of smokeless tobacco from the game - DH in both leagues - Banning of religious activities in the ballpark - Pay for performance MLB contracts - Livable minimum wage at the minors - Global draft with 18 minimum age - 30-man and 50-man rosters replace 25- and 40- - Easier free agency rules
  17. The latter. And not only Cashman. And not only columnists. Girardi was driven out of town by the media.
  18. I think that the Twins Front Office, Field Staff, President, and Owners need a good infusion of East Coast media and attitudes about winning and questioning losers. Fans too. Apparently.
  19. The issue with this is that they do not take into consideration the natural decline that comes with age/injury etc. Tim Lincecum and Joe Mauer will not regress to their mean performance. Period. Also, for players past their prime, like Dozier, is hard to tell how far behind the 8 ball they are at this point. Opposite with players who are entering their prime like Escobar. Why should his pre-prime numbers be the target of "regression.". Performance is a bell curve. It is important to: a. figure which part of the curve a particular player is and b. how wide is the peak. It varies with each individual player and his circumstances. Other than that, pretty entertaining
