  1. I have Keirsey much higher, based on film. Lots of athleticism there. Played FB in HS. Close to a 5 tool player. Reminds me a lot of Joe Benson. Not that concerned about Bechtold other than what position he will play. Down season so far with the bat. It happens
  2. I'd rather see Odorizzi out of there, unless the return is someone who could be a better pitcher for the Twins in 2019 than Gibson is. Then, trade him.
  3. And if you wonder about Astudillo's defense as c, you likely forget what he did last Spring Training: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JG-ZnnqSWw
  4. I like Whitefield, but still not sure whether he can hit a baseball against good pitching. Like most converted softball players he has real trouble with breaking stuff. Real trouble. This season was going to be interesting, but it is pretty much lost with injury. Excellent globe, base running and hustling and a good guy to root for.
  5. Lots of moves need to be made, and the first one will be finding a buyer for Lynn, Odorizzi, and Reed, closely followed with DFAing Belisle, and demoting Rogers. I doubt that anything meaningful will be made regarding the pitching. Maybe they might rearrange a chair or two.
  6. I still remember him looking like this (Vargas to the left) : http://mwltraveler.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/vargas-sano.jpg
  7. In the macro level, like making a lineup and playing match-ups for sure. On the other hand good managers observe what happens on the field and react accordingly. For example if the pitcher cannot get his fastball over and relies more on breaking stuff and slow pitches, a good manager ups the running game. Also, if he sees the opposing runner taking a long lead off first base, he tries to have him picked up. Furthermore, if you have a series of games, a good manager does not burn all of his bullpen in blow out games. That a statistician cannot do.
  8. Rosario used to be a second baseman for a while and can fill in in a pitch there with Dozier moving to the other side of the infield to finish a game. Someone from AAA can be up next day
  9. They called Willians Astrudillo up. Motter to concussion 7-day DL, Felix Jorge DFA'd. This is a great writeup regarding Astrudillo.
  10. He was an outfielder and the Twins spent time converting him to catcher. Thus the lack of prior official games. Average age in the GCL this season is 19.8 and in the Twins GCL team 20.6, so age is not much of a matter
  11. a. If you are talking about the offseason, they did get a DH/1B. b. if you are talking about now, is this team a C and yet another DH/1B away from closing the 8 game gap with Cleveland and 13.5 game gap with the second WC spot?
  12. A manager sets the attitude at the clubhouse. The frustrating thing about the clubhouse is it seems to not hate losing. Also, a good manager does not play favorites. Molitor does not sit his buddies no matter how bad they are. Molitor is not a good manager.
  13. I agree in most aspects. The rotation in 2019 will have: Gibson, Odorizzi, Mejia, and May without options Berrios, Romero, Pineda and others who have not yet been in the majors with options. If anything, it is overloaded, but it is also missing an ace. And only one of the above names is a LHP. So addition by subtraction plus an ace would help in 2019. The Twins rotation is 8th in the AL in ERA, and 9th in FIP in the AL in 2018, so there is yet room for improvement, even though it has improved from last season. On the other hand, the bullpen has a negative WPA, so there is much room for improvement in 2019 and unfortunately it looks like it has to come outside the organization again. The bats have been 11th in wOBA and 12th in wRC+ in the AL this season, but there is clear room for improvement within the organization (Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, Rooker, Sano) as well as attitude adjustment in the clubhouse with the insertion of veterans who are used to winning. A hatred towards losing is what is lacking with the bats right now, plus the injuries/setbacks. With Dozier, Lynn, Morrison, Santana, Rodney, and Mauer gone in 2019 the Twins will have $75 million to make it happen, so they can be in good shape.
  14. Syndergaard 25 years old - this plus 2 seasons of control, and is out with a hand injury this season deGrom 30 years old - this plus 1 more seasons of control. Totally different value. Also Syndergaard is not close to Sale as far as value is concerned. As far as the Twins go, if they were to get after either one, it will have to be a trade and extend situation. Also their rotation is already full, and about to become fuller in 2019, so any trade will have to include at least one pitcher currently in the Twins rotation going to the Mets. Given this, I'd probably dangle Odorizzi (who is younger than deGrom) and Gordon for deGrom only if he agrees to a 2-year extension, to and including his age 33 season. Adding Buxton to Odorizzi and Gordon, and another top rated prospect like Kiriloff (how many more LH OF/1B do the Twins need?) will probably net Syndergaard, but he would need a 3 year extension to his age 30 season. The Twins need an ace more than a gold platinum glove centerfielder at this point The Twins do have the resources to make it happen. On the other hand, I don't think that deGrom or (esp.) Syndergaard will agree to a contract extension. They do need an ace in 2019, but the rotation will be the least of their problems...
  15. They are or soon to be out of options, given a lot of opportunity and they have not proven to be anything special. Pressly will be 30 years old next season and has only one season with positive WPA out of the pen. And teams will look at his K/9 and think that he has value
  16. And this is a matter of attitude. For example: Who would you rather stink up the Twins bullpen right now? Matt Belisle or Kohl Stewart? I'd take Stewart. One might find out something about him before he is gone with the wind as a MiLB FA next off-season
  17. 5 words: Even.Phil.Hughes.Got.Traded
  18. He is in single A right now. Cedar Rapids. High A for the second half this season and first half of next and AA second half next season. Even Buxton, who had better numbers btw, did not come up that fast. Lewis is barely hitting north of .800 OPS. Not bad, but not ready yet. No need to rush him.
  19. Machado might get $25. That's close enough
  20. No, you get Escobar at $18 million a season, which is ridiculous, as that is Manny Machado money... He will accept a QO
  21. Rodney, Reed, Pressly, Duffey, & Duke should be listed also...
  22. You cannot assume that regardless you trade him or not. At least you are getting something back for him this way, instead of letting him walk.
  23. I'd pull an Aguillera 2.0: trade and re-sign him the off-season to be the starting second baseman or whereever else there might be need.
