  1. Yeah. But they are both very raw. IIRC Poulson walked twice as many as he struck out as a 24-year old in E-town last season. Ricky.Vaughn.
  2. Let's see what the Twins got for Johan Santana: - A five tool All Star Gold Glove Centerfielder - A guy who would had been the Twins' best pitcher in 2011 (had he still been with the team and had the year he had with the White Sox) - The 35th best prospect according to the BA who is still 26 and in the minors and has yet to reach his prime - And Kevin Mulvey. What did the Mets get for that? 1.5 good season of Santana The fact that Gardenhire could not communicate with Gomez and his exuberance and personality was too much with him and wanted him out, is a different story. So it the fact that Anderson could not harness Humber's potential (he was not even given a chance with the Twins.) Guerra is still a TBD in my mind. Not that bad of a trade, under different circumstances, given that fact that the Twins were selling low because everyone knew they had to sell... I'd argue that 2.5 years of Santana for 10+ years of Gomez, straight up, tilts that trade to the Twins' side. Manager of the Millennium aside.
  3. Frankie was almost there.
  4. No but let me put it this way: I am (slightly) more comfortable with Hughes as the Twins' "Ace" than Diamond or Worley. Hughes is a good number 3 guy in a competitive team.
  5. Are you sure that Herrmann and Nunez are not part of the future? I am not.
  6. Herrmann and Nunez are the hottest bats with the Twins right now, and Herrmann's play has been exemplary both with the stick and the glove. I think that Pinto will have to wait until the Twins are done with Suzuki (which is somewhat of a shame.) Pinto is served better by catching most days in Rochester than sitting most days in Minneapolis.
  7. Interesting stuff (but I did not read anything about advanced statistics ) At that level, some college players are still making the transition to wood, and everyone in general is pretty raw, positions are not determined yet, and they learn how to play the game in general. Fundamentals and teaching situational hitting, pitching and fielding is much more important. They got to develop that base before you go into more advanced. And about 1/2 of the kids in the Midwest League will not make it to AA and about 4/5 will not make it to the majors.
  8. There is a broomball team in the Twin Cities now? Guess some people are happy.
  9. Please name a single name of the above who would be on a contender's 25-man roster. Name one that Miguel Cabrera would have to think twice about, while staying at the batter's box. (At least after what JR Graham did the last couple series, people have to think when facing him.) The Twins have good arms, but they are a level below (Burdi, Reed) or misused in the rotation (Pelfrey.) Nothing at AAA now other than a guy with top of the rotation potential (Meyer.)
  10. Still way way way too early to hit the panic button. But when it is hit, it should not be something like replacing Robinson with Hicks and Boyer with Tonkin, because it will be totally ineffective, might add to a plus 2 in the W column or so. It should be gutting the front office and replacing it with people who have a vision and have experience in building a winning team and are not horders. Because this team is so bad, that it will require trading people like Arcia and Plouffe and Suzuki and Hughes and Perkins (and I am naming tradable names only) and cutting some of the untradables to do it. Gut and rebuild. And should start from the top. And if takes renaming a Bloody Mary, Bloody Terry, I am all good for it...
  11. Depends on the players who are available. The Twins have an excellent farm system and do not need additional fillers at this point. They already cutting players who are MLB-caliber players because they have better players. So it has to be quality over quantity. If there is a single player who is like Sano, they got to go after him. If there is not, I'd rather see them sign 2-3 "B" players in position of need (LHSP, for example) and save their money for something else. Then fill the DSL squad with D players with minimal bonuses to have a squad. And maybe one will pan out. That half-rear end non-planning thing has to stop.
  12. +1 for that I fly every other week it seems these days and, with short notice, hard to see anything South of $750 or so, no matter where you go. Other than Orlando. Or Vegas
  13. Nope. It is concerning that he has no clue on what to do with a breaking ball. I hope that there is a coach who can teach him. Not sure that Chad Allen is that.
  14. Are you including Sano in this? If so, he has .971 OPS. They are pitching him like Bonds so far.
  15. Last I checked the First Amendment is part of the Law of the Land, which, as it allows and protects Deadspin for publishing what they publish, should allow and protect Blyleven to say what he said.
  16. I live in Lehigh Valley, PA and fly out of Allentown (or Philly or Newark, if I have too, but I avoid them like the plague). 750 highway miles. Drivable but we are taking about $150-$200 in gas plus a hotel room or two, so flying and renting a car (and not have to drive 20-25 hrs RT) much better proposition for me Nashville is 2 hours or so, but the airfares are $400ish + because it is a tourist destination. Chattanooga has an airport as well (CHA) but the flights are at the $450ish range (and I am talking a month plus in Advance). Knoxville and Atlanta are in the 2-2.5 hrs range driving distance from Chattanooga.
  17. This is an interesting fallacy and I have seen it coming here and there, but it is hard to figure out its root. The only seasons that Polanco played more at 2B than at SS were in 2012 and 2013, because the Twins thought that Goodrum should take more reps there, a notion that they realized should be reversed in 2014. I kinda believe that this misconception comes from another player's agent or something of that sort. Or as an excuse to have their second round pick there ahead of a player with a better glove... Heck, look who BA (Manuel) thought was the Twins' best defensive infielder before the 2011 season?
  18. I have looked into this, but I am coming the other way, and do not have any firm plans yet. Checked around airports in the area and it seems that Birminham, AL is the least expensive way to go, with RT air at around $250 a person and cars at the high teens a day. About 2.5 hrs SW of Chattanooga. Just a heads up.
  19. I'd say that Sano and Buxton have one elite tool each (Power, Speed) as well I think that Polanco's hit (average) tool is ahead of both at this point. As far as being "elite", I think that he will be a .300 hitter, which is "elite" for a shortstop. So these guys are not that far from each other (and, I have Polanco ranked ahead of Buxton) The one guy in that team that will surprise people is Mike Gonzales. I think that, based what I saw this ST, he's finally figured it out (and it was about time.) Dark horse for making the Twins in 2016.
  20. Facts: a. The Twins had a better cumulative record under Bill Smith than they did under Terry Ryan (So I suspect that if "the legacy of Bill Smith is never going to be thought of in a positive manner", Ryan's should be thought of in less positive manner. Wins and Losses do not lie, no matter how many excuses one can throw out there...) b. Unlike his predecessor (and successor) the Twins under Bill Smith did trade prospects for established players to help them contend c. (and this is a biggy) Smith wrote huge checks to International Free Agents for the first time in the Twins' iteration of the franchise. (and the checks got smaller after he left.) No Smith = no Sano, Polanco, Kepler etc...
  21. You know, I hope that he does not have another chance to do that at least for the Twins...
  22. Totally agree. As a matter of fact, I volunteer to pitch for him for what he is making per start to save him the pressure. 'Tis the boy scout in me.
  23. Re: Nolasco: Was not able to watch the game live, so I went back and watched it. I am giving him a mulligan for today. Was pretty obvious that he could not finish his Fastball and was struggling to find a second pitch other than his curve that was working well, third and fourth inning. Was cold. That would do it. Got to see what he can do in the next few starts before I judge him based on a bad inning or so (and Hunter and Schafer both had balls run by them) during cold weather.
  24. Nah. It is the cherry on top of the last 162 x 4 = 648 games. So, about 650 games in. Not 2
  25. I guess y'all forgot Tommy Herr...
