  1. That is a bigger part imo. The ability of more teams to make the post season. In years past, the playoffs are almost already decided by now. The division leaders and wc would be pretty much decided. That made for bad baseball. Teams cashed in. Bad teams still cash in, but look how many are still playing meaningful games.
  2. I'm a fan of the game. I don't mind the one game winner take all. Look how awesome last year's games was. It's a wild card game for a reason.
  3. I think he's just struggling with making the bat hit the ball. That seems to be his issue this year.
  4. I'm pretty critical of Mauer, and will continue to have high expectations for him, and the position he plays. Everyone should be pulling for him, he plays a pivotal offensive position and if he continues to play this much let's just hope it is better quality baseball than what we've seen the last few seasons.
  5. Mauer wouldn't receive as much criticism if he wasn't the highest paid player on the twins, and one of the least productive at his new position. I hope he can continue this stretch of success. I really don't think this is a "see I told you so" about Mauer. It is simply recognition for being a major contributor the last month.
  6. I like those takes. If Leidner struggles I hope they at least let Perra or Rhoda see some time the next few weeks. I never want to see streveler under center again. The dude can run, find a different way to use his speed. Poljan will hopefully bring some talent next season. He is raising on prospect charts. I really don't see why they haven't been able to get a juco transfer or an sec transfer the past few years. I just hope Kill has the guts to pull the plug on Leidner when the time comes. If his play is obvious to us, it is to the coaching staff too. Leidner is a great leader, so I'm sure that complicates this decision.
  7. How is that not balanced? A bad player doesn't win games, they lose them. The games the gophers win are not because Leidner carries them, it's because they are a good team with a bad qb. In his full season plus his rs freshman season, I think we have enough evidence by now to make a firm evaluation of him as a qb. Watching him this season, nothing has changed. He is still the same guy as last season. That doesn't mean the gophers won't win games with him, because they won a bunch last year. If he continues to start they will win games still in 2016. However, I can confidently say with Leidner the offense is a liability and the weakest link is at qb. Look what happened at Illinois last season. Couple fluke plays and an inferior team can beat the gophers because they don't have a passing game. This defense will win games, like forcing 4 turnovers against csu. Until they have a different qb they will not beat elite (top 20) teams.
  8. All of those wins were not because of Leidner, rather in spite of him. Put a competent qb on the field against Bucky and they win that game too. Look, Leidner is tough as nails and a great competitor. I love his grit and desire, unfortunately he is just not a talented passer. I don't think crofts red shirt is that big of a deal. We're not looking at Tebow or Johnny football here. I don't know if croft provides a better chance to win or not, but it's pretty difficult to watch your leader bounce pass and air mail open receivers. Does he get the spot guaranteed just because he has experience? How many true freshman examples do you and kill need to see experience doesn't win games. Talent does.
  9. It's too late at that point. They are getting their guy in next year. Let croft have a shot at these soft teams and see if he provides more to the team. Didn't have to take over full time, but mitch is just a bad qb. We already know what he provides, and it ain't much.
  10. They said after the game last night he will be called up after the playoffs.
  11. Stupid Swype strikes again.
  12. Since when is it acceptable to not have really monkey as an option?
  13. Suzuki also has an ops over 800 this month, and didn't have a terrible August either (673). This injury came while he has been hitting his best.
  14. The question is.... is he actually the best guy for that high leverage start?
  15. If it's a short term deal cool. I'd rather get back a catcher from plouffe trade.
  16. Bringing the solid hit "call me maybe" has stabilized the pen. Additionally, "I really really like you" has really been a surprising secret weapon. I like what Jepsen has brought to the table. I think we're just looking a tiny snapshot of things to come.
  17. A Plouffe extension looks like a deal with another club. I really don't see any way he is with the Twins next season. Between him, Sano, Mauer, Vargas, Kepler, Arcia..... he has the most value to other teams. Unless Mauer is moved, I don't see how playing time would be adequate for all. I'd prefer he be kept at 3b and Sano at 1b, but it will never happen.
  18. Berrios with a bullet. Gonsalves hit some bumps in fort Meyers, wouldn't surprise me to see him and Stewart both start there. At this point, berrios is easy top 25 prospect while if be surprised if Gonsalves makes the list yet. Not that rankings are everything, but I'm willing to bet most would put their money on Berrios.
  19. I admit, I was completely against giving him starts. He has done pretty well this season. Guys like him succeed all the time. The old "crafty lefty" saying. I think his success is at least a little more reliable diamond's was. I'm not sure if it's smart to consider him a staple in the rotation for the next several years. However, he's earned 2016 for sure.
  20. Are we really going through this again?
  21. Wait... Pinto didn't a September call up? Man that's disappointing. I hope he gets healthy, I'm not sure I can stomach another year of Suzuki getting 600 abs (or even a moderately close 400).
  22. Good. He needs a day off. I wouldn't even mind if he gets a few days off. Kid needs to clear his head and relax.
  23. First of all, options have nothing to do with being called up. Rather, a team uses an option when a player is sent down. Since Terry Ryan played yo yo with him the past 3 seasons, he is now out of options. Since he posted a 100 ops+ his first season up, I wouldn't consider that being called up too early. Especially since that team lost 90+ games. He was one of the best hitters on the team that season, and the next, and would have been this season too had be not been injured.
  24. Why do you think you have to choose? Most great players get arb years bought out anyway. If you're worried about berrios arm, then that is on Terry Ryan too. He could have easily accounted for that through the year by skipping starts or pushing him back a start here and there. Not having his arm available for a playoff run in September is indefensible.
