  1. Stewart's post all star break has been pretty encouraging. Looking at his month to month, he is making clear progress. His gb/fb ratio is also extremely good. Once he start striking some more guys out (which he has lately) everyone will be back on the wagon. Again, the Twins knew when they drafted him that he might take some time to develop. Gonsalves is having a nice season. I don't think he leaps over Stewart yet, but he is right on his heals. Depending on how they finish the last month will be the deciding factor on where I would rank the two going into next year.
  2. I'm impressed with how Rosario seems to be able to hit anything he wants. The guy just makes solid contact with everything. He might not walk a ton, but if he hits 280+ every year with some pop he is a pretty good player (would be even better if it was at 2b). Add May and Berrios to that as well. Once the Mauer contact is off the books I could see the twins being a player in a big time fa pitcher.
  3. Still, throwing strikes is his problem, has been his problem, and will always be his problem. 3 bb in 6 ip is bad. I'm not denying his stuff, guys can't hit him. I wonder if the twins did dine tinkering and had it back fire... again.
  4. NYY would be crazy not to listen. If you throw in Arcia, you ask for more. While he is trending down, he is still a big talent. Obviously, Duensing is still involved.
  5. Gibson and duensing to nyy for Sanchez and Lindgren. Just throwing it out there. Sanchez is a top 100 prospect and Lindgren looks like an excellent reliever. Maybe the twins could convert him....
  6. Meyer can't throw strikes. That isn't on the coaches. The book is out on him. Minor leagues do scouting too. Even when he was dominating aaa he was waking to many guys. The thought around here was he could compensate with strike outs. The problem with strike outs is you have to actually throw strikes sometimes. Meyer has a problem and outs becoming clear the twins aren't able to fix it. It's a shame, I had high hopes for him.
  7. That is a difficult question to answer. I believe it comes down to the evaluators unable to identify elite talent. There was also the ole' pitch to contact days for the Twins. I'm really not a big fan of the Twins drafts in that entire decade (I was too young to really follow it closely in the 90's).
  8. Slowey was also a pretty effective pitcher until his injury. Never was the same.
  9. I think he'd be pretty good.
  10. This is current players right? You missed Garret Jones. He would be 1b with Morneau out. I'd give him a D+ or C-.
  11. How important is this? Would you rather trade pieces now for a long-shot at even making the playoffs, or save them for 2016/2017 when the team is more poised at making a run? I'm not even talking about these prospects contributing to the Twins, rather, being available to hypothetically trade at a more appropriate time.
  12. I don't really agree. I'm not talking about getting a guy experience, I'm talking about multiple guys extended looks. That is what will allow the Twins to evaluate the bullpen in the offseason and make good choices about how to proceed. I don't want a band-aid, I want solutions.
  13. Why do they have to trade for a RP when they have so many internal options? Seriously, its ludicrous these guys haven't been given a shot. I'd prefer to get all these young guys experience before trading for an old, value-less RP. If a RP is going to struggle, I'd rather it be while Duffey, Berrios, Rogers, Achter, Tonkin are getting experience. You don't know what you need if you don't know what you have.
  14. That is all I want JR to try and do. If his past actions have taught us anything, its that he is very conservative with his prospects. I don't expect that to change for a long shot WC game. When he's had the opportunity to make a big move and put the Twins over the edge, the price was never right. I'm pretty confident he isn't going to get fleeced in a trade right now. One thing I like about him, is that he doesn't overreact or make rash decisions (Capps for Ramos anyone?). That doesn't mean he never makes bad trades. Span for Meyer looks like it isn't going to end well; but at the time I don't think anyone believed it was a bad decision (I am very skeptical on Meyer and still support that trade).
  15. Trade Pelfrey to any team willing to take him with cash included. Turn over pretty much the entire bullpen besides O Rourke and Perkins.
  16. That team was drastically different than this team. It was anchored by a cy young winner and a future hall of famer. They also had 6 guys with an OPS over .750, and a few close to it (Gagne, Lombardozzi). It was a good team. I don't see how they only managed a WC.
  17. We need to stop living in 1987.
  18. Not true. He traded for Stewart and he provided the leadoff hitter they had been searching for. He also traded for Castillo, and he was solid at 2b for a few years. While Castillo didn't cost much, Kielty was well thought of for his power potential.
  19. What are they getting back? A top 50 catching prospect (or Schwarber) would be good enough to me. Other than that.... why? He is going to be valuable over the next few years when the Twins are competitive. Plus, he is the best bullpen arm they have.
  20. Why is it such a guarantee that one of these has-been relievers is going to be better than some of the guys doing exceptionally well in AAA? Its not like the Twins have given these guys a legitimate shot to succeed. Shoot, the list of young relief pitchers that were jerked around by this organization is maddening. By now they should have at least given them an opportunity to see if they need to go outside the organization either at the trade deadline or in the offseason. I feel very strongly about not giving away assets for a fluke shot at 2015. This starting staff, this lineup and this bullpen are not ready to be serious contenders in October. I'm pretty confident JR feels the same way.
  21. I thought this was a joke thread when I opened it. Now, it's just a joke. Even having a bad day he still should have made it through the first place Yankee lineup with a quality start. Every pitcher has a rough patch, I'm willing to let these slide and not get caught up in the short term.
  22. I'm surprised so many have meyer on their lists. I don't believe he'll throw enough strikes to be a relief pitcher and will throw to many pitches to be a starter. I also think plouffe and arcia will be traded, or they would be up there. I anticipate these teams to be pretty good, with many players over 3 war. In two years this could be a world series team.
  23. Buxton Sano Dozier Berrios Hughes Gibson Kepler Jay Polanco Santana Burdi Stewart Mauer Rosario Abw Gonsalves Chargois
  24. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'm at about a 4 on strike outs by Stewart. It's worth consideration, that's about it. He has an excellent gb ratio, allowed only 1 hr all year and is only in his second season of year round baseball. He is having a good season. I'm hopeful some if this weak contact he is getting will start turning into swing and miss. He has a 3.14 era, so he is doing something right.
  25. The royals already had the best record in the al, now they added one of the better pitchers in the league.... Good luck. In my mind the twins are now playing for second place. Forget about tulo or lucroy. Forget about solidifying the bullpen with proven arms. Put Santana at ss and leave him there. Get Robinson out of here and let arcia play. Get the young bullpen arms in the mlb so they can adjust. Just because you go with a youth movement the team doesn't have to start losing. Maybe the young guys come up and start kicking ass. They probably have ass good if a chance as anyone the twins trade for without giving up significant assets.
