  1. First of all, I am optimistic about some of these Rep. candidates. I also absolutely hate some of the others. Pretty polarizing actually. I'm just going to list some bullet points about observations I had. The Rep. party are hypocritical bigots about women's rights (mostly abortion). It disgusts me. I hate Trump, Walker, Huckabee, Christie, CruzI liked Rubio, Bush, Carson, Paul, KasichIt is amusing to me that people are slamming Bush for his performance when I thought he did very well. The GOP does not want him to win, at any means necessary. Fox is a horrible media outlet. My wife compared them to Nickelodeon (and she is very conservative)Rubio really looks the part of a new age Rep. party. I just can't get behind climate change pro-life.Paul spent too much time bickering. He came off the wrong way. If he wants to make any progress he needs to find a way to be more likable.Carson is interesting to me. He isn't a politician, but he is smart and can learn.
  2. Ebola was the virus 20 years ago they would never be vaccinated or cured. It was a sure death sentence. I wonder how long before the anti-vaxers go to campaign?
  3. Plouffe or Mauer have to go. Plouffe would bring far more value back than Mauer. At some point, the Twins are going to have to take a hard stance with Mauer. How long do they give him to be a terrible player? I wish it would have worked out, but it hasn't. As soon as next season the Twins hope to contend for the division. Are they really going to employ one of the worst 1b in the league for the entire year? Most businesses know when to cut their losses.
  4. Great start by Stewart! Hopefully the last outing was a result of trade deadline nerves. Nonetheless, he has 5 more starts this season. Keep it up.
  5. I've been an advocate of him dropping switch hitting his entire professional career. He is terrible from the left side. I really don't think it's possible to be worse, especially since he is actually good from the right. Switch hitting only works when a player can actually hit from both sides. Hicks has proven this is not true. There are far more players in this league that don't switch hit, and for good reason. I was hopeful when he dropped it last year, but he didn't give it enough time. The off-season is really the correct time to make these kind of changes.
  6. Wow, after reading that I want to punch somebody in the face. An 80 page paper? It was a good read for the most part, but he could have easily done the same in 40 pages. I hate it when people can't get to the point. Anyway, besides the best-seller-want-to-be-novel aspect, the point is real. In normal companies, CEO's make the money. In baseball, the product developers (or engineers) make the money. I'd be ok with that, considering I majored in engineering at the U and am looking at a secondary electrical engineering degree currently. If Moneyball has taught us anything, its that the GM position has a huge influence on baseball. My presumptions about Terry Ryan are correct, he is a middle of the road GM. He doesn't add anything, he doesn't lose anything (because he barely does anything). Innovators at this position are hard to come by. Partly because owners have always hired "baseball" guys instead of creative thinkers. I think this trend is ending. I truly believe owners have advisers for just about everything, and these advisers will tell them to not hire regurgitated GM's. Rather, try an innovative approach. I'm still supporting hiring Dombrowski, because I believe he would be at the top had he not been pressured into stupid contracts. However, he qualifies as a regurgitate. More than anything else, the successor to Terry Ryan should be someone with new ideas. I hold a very strong opinion toward his dismissal.
  7. Tough start for Gonsalves. He doesn't seem to pitch deep into games very often. Anyone know what pitch count limit he's being held to?
  8. At this point, Kepler being promoted really doesn't do much unless it is to the Twins. Like Seth said, I'm betting he plays in AAA for a good chunk of 2016. He'll be the swing man when injury happens. Jim, there has been a lot of prospects come up and not play every day. When Benson and Parmalee made the jump from AA they weren't in the lineup everyday. It seemed like a reward for great seasons and to get a taste of the MLB. Hopefully they do the same with Kepler (and limit Mauer's ABs).
  9. Looks good. I have to go to bed, but will be reading this. If I remember right, Oxtung and I had a little nerd sesh putting together numbers to grade GM's. So this will be interesting to see how this guy does it.
  10. Well.... we'll see what they do this offseason I guess. You could already make the argument keeping Plouffe and Sano at the corners is better than keeping Mauer. If the Twins don't trade Plouffe this offseason.... this time next year it will be very difficult to be Joe Mauer.
  11. Yes please.
  12. You freaking kidding me? Kid is having a rough introduction to the mlb. Best offense in the league... might be the best since the yankees years ago.
  13. 135 ops+ vs 93 ops+ I'm just kidding.... mostly.
  14. Is it fair to criticize the twins for choosing the wrong guy?
  15. Where did you find this? On ESPN he is 55th, and that is just position players.....
  16. I keep reading "take out the month of May." That is 25% of the games played so far. Sure it was a great month, but take out the month of June instead where they went 11-17 and their record is way better. Cherry picking numbers to make a team look better or worse is cherry picking no matter what you do. You want to throw in the towel be my guest. I choose to be optimistic in my life. This team has talent, enough to stay competitive until the end. I think it's a long shot they make the playoffs, but I'm not throwing in the towel when they actually have a shot.
  17. I don't think you'll find much resistance to that idea. I believe in some of the guys on this team to grind it out and play solid baseball the rest of the way. I don't really think they will make the playoffs, but I didn't think they would even at the peak of the season. I do think they can make it interesting down the stretch though. Enough to put pressure on teams above them and keep us all complaining about why boyer is still getting innings in front of the bat boy.
  18. I've been as hard on Ryan as anyone, some cases harder. I'm not a fan of his. I've called him out and called for his termination. Not making significant moves at this trade deadline isn't a big deal to me. Trade deadlines are for twins trying to get over the edge like kc and San Francisco. He obviously didn't like any of the deals proposed, and can't fault him this season for not forcing it. The main point of this thread, is that I am not ready to cash in the season, and neither should anyone else. I think this team is more than capable of playing above 500 to the end of the year, and that outs them in position for the wc game. That would be fun. This isn't a world series team, but it will be soon.
  19. Whatever their approach is with Stewart, it's getting difficult to support. The kid has the stuff, just isn't clicking yet. Has he always been a sinkerball pitcher? I thought he profiled as a power pitcher? When did this happen? How many questions can I ask in one paragraph that nobody here has an answer to? Kick it into high gear kohl. You don't have many starts left, or many excuses left.
  20. I don't understand why everyone is assuming the twins are going belly up? The bullpen is bad, but luckily there are in house options to help out, They just aren't being taken advantage of. The twins can pay 500 ball the rest of the way and be in the thick of it until the end. That is more than was expected this season and I'll be satisfied. Why give up pieces that can help in the future for a shot with a roster that isn't ready to make a serious run? Next year these young guys will be better, Berrios will be in the rotation, Buxton the entire year (until he gets hurt), sano the entire year, hopefully an adequate catcher, off-season to retool the bullpen. So many bright spots so far and so many to look forward to. I'm going to continue to watch games and root for victories. Which is a drastic change from rooting for the top draft position..... and a lot more fun.
  21. This team as is can compete for that wc. What needs to happen, it's so painfully obvious to everyone except jr. It's unbelievable really. I was completely against trading assets at the deadline. I don't care about giving up Hu, unlike so many here. I wish the target was different, but we'll see how it turns out. The season isn't over, I don't know why everyone pretends the twins are going belly up. Sure, other teams got better. The east is extremely competitive now and they will beat up on each other. The west has two good teams too. The twins also have reinforcements available in September.
  22. This looks like message to Molitor that jr wants Escobar to play ss every day. They need to get boyer out of Minnesota. Too bad arcia and vargas are not forcing their way up. Arcia must be down for a reason.
  23. Meh, I'm pretty low on Hu. He squeezes into my top 20, but that is about it.
  24. Hu did we give up for Jepsen? Seriously though, super pumped to hear "Call me Maybe" during games.
  25. I really like this move. A few seasons back she was huge with "Call me Maybe." Now, she is turning heads with "I Really Like You." Solid move for the Twins. I think she adds a lot of value going forward.
