  1. You have to be ****ing kidding right? You make major decisions based on a professional throwing a temper tantrum? I would have sent pelfrey top the pen and if he cried about it, I would have sent him to aaa. Exact same thing happened to slowey. Twins brass didn't shrivel up because of him, but he wasn't signed to an asinine contact either.
  2. I hope you're right Seth. Seems like he is starting to click a little. A strong second half would be huge for him and the twins. More than anything it looks like his approach is improving. He doesn't have to hit a bunch of extra base hits if he can just get on base a lot. But, adding 20 pounds of muscle in the next few years will have a dramatic difference.
  3. If Buxton is eligible it changes to a top 10 system. Losing sano drops the twins a few places. Like said above, Stewart and Gordon are not having spectacular seasons. Not terrible, but not enough to be considered top 50 prospects.... Maybe even not top 100. It really doesn't matter though. Behind Buxton and sano the twins have solid pitching and talent all over the field coming up. They will be good
  4. Why is everyone continuing to talk about Gibson for Tulo? This trade makes no sense for either team. This trade makes no sense for either team. This trade makes no sense for either team. Why is this such a difficult concept? If the Twins were in this situation, Twins fans would want Berrios and Polanco. Shoot, the Twins traded Santana for less than that.
  5. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Buxton and Sano carried a lot of the weight of previous top rankings and they are graduating. The young pitchers could make some noise in the year (Jay, Stewart, Gonsalves, Thorpe). Guys like Kepler, Polanco, ABW, Gordon are on the national radar. The system is good. Remember, Delmon Young was once the top prospect.... these rankings only go so far.
  6. Have to be excited about Jorge and the year he's had. Last season was rough on him, don't really know the whole story, but certainly didn't pitch like himself. Between him, Hu, Stewart, Gonsalves, Thorpe the Twins have some nice young arms.
  7. Hall of fame? Jumping the gun a little on that. Radke had 4 seasons over 5 WAR, an ERA+ under 100 once in 12 season, pitched less than 180 innings twice. He was a pretty good pitcher for his entire career. He was also drafted out of high school and pitched 180 innings when was 22. That said, Gibson is having a better year than Radke ever did. He strikes out as many or more and has an elite GB rate. Sure, he could regress, but why would he? He's been doing this since he was drafted. Had he not had TJ he would be in his 4th full season with the Twins. We can make a bet on who has more value the rest of their career, Gibson vs. Tulo....
  8. Yes. I wouldn't trade Gibson for him. Trading Gibson is just plain stupid. He is in his prime, cost controlled, doesn't have an elite track record. Would the Giants trade Bumgarner on their way to the postseason? Plus, the Rockies wont even be good until after Gibson is past his prime. Just doesn't make sense. What would make sense is someone like Berrios. However, if the Twins would trade their best pitching prospect they would need Hundley included..... which would require them to add more players into the deal. If Tulo was 2 years younger it would make this an easier conversation. At this point, he is going to start declining and the 2 sides wont match up.
  9. Twins Wins: 47.5 under Mauer's OPS: .815 over Dozier HRs: 14.5 under Sano HRs: 9.5 over Hicks: .350 OBP under Sano OPS: .900 under Hunter HR: 8.5 over Perkins Saves: 22.5 over Gibson ERA: 3.25 under Santana ERA: 3.50 over Hughes ERA: 3.75 over Arcia PA: 150 under Buxton PA: 150 under Trevor May Starts: 5.5 over Mike Pelfrey Starts: 5.5 over Alex Meyer IP: 6.5 over Jose Berrios IP: 15.5 under Kurt Suzuki OPS: .600 over RP acquired via free agency and trade: 1.5 under Catchers acquired via trade: 0.5 over Trevor Plouffe OPS: .775 under Brian Duensing ERA: 3.80 under Blaine Boyer ERA: 3.80 over Casey Fien ERA: 3.80 under
  10. Who will be more valuable going forward, berrios or Gibson? That is a tough question. Gibson is pitching fantastic right now but berrios is younger. I think any deal would have to include hundley. Trading Gibson also decreases the twins talent on the starting staff by a significant amount. I would do berrios, chargois, arcia for the two of them. Wonder what their asking price is.
  11. Pretty cool Seth. Thorpe is one of my favorites. I was disappointed with the delay in the decision for surgery, like everyone else. I'm sure recovery for a prospect is extremely difficult. They have no money, unable to work on pitching, still have the same responsibilities. Good luck to him.
  12. Takes talent for that. Walker is an example of a guy with power that is developing. Otherwise, perennial 30 hr guys are rare, especially in this era. You either have to get lucky or draft someone like bryant or Harper that are can't miss. Twins have never been very good at identifying those guy later in the draft.
  13. There are 3 levels below that he could start and stretch out. That saying by the way, is real. Relief pitching and starting are very different on a body. The finding room argument for a 6th overall draft choice is one I would expect to hear from the twins though. So nice play there.
  14. So I guess Rosario and dozier don't count as second rounders, but they have made an impact. If you're taking pitching then he's the probability of him becoming an ace is low, but impact players are found all over the draft.
  15. I'm perfectly fine with both the pick and his performance this season. I don't think its that big of a deal to convert him to a starter if his delivery, body style, and stuff are adequate. Some guys have the stuff but not the body (Pedro Martinez comes to mind of someone that is a clear outlier). Guys hyperventilating about less than 10 ip of his first experience in pro ball is pretty funny. He's going to be a starter, so he should be starting or at least stretching out. I don't like that he is still in a relief role right now. That makes his adjustment time to starting take even longer, which is why I'm against it. Struggling right now is not a big deal, he's adjusting.... he should just be adjusting into a starting role.
  16. I don't understand why he isn't starting right now. What is the point in having him pitch as a RP.... when the plan is for him to start. If the reasoning is innings pitched this season, shut him down. I guess I just don't see a reason to "ease" a guy in when he has a full career in college.
  17. Looks pretty good to me. I like that order. While Stewart hasn't turned the strike out on yet, he doesn't give up HR and induces weak contact. I'm still optimistic he can strike more people out as he matures. SG is breathing on his neck, which is a good thing! Really excited about these two going forward. Kepler is having a fantastic season too. Only 22 and killing it in AA. Almost more impressive than his hit tool breaking out, he has about equal bb/so. His OBP is over .400 and ISO of .200. He almost has as many doubles this season as he did all of 2014, and is only a few TB away from eclipsing 2014 in 75% of the AB's. No doubt he will be on all the top 100 lists going into 2016.
  18. I'm excited about this deal. Cooperation by Iran with major powers in the world is a positive step. Hopefully a relationship can be built and some level of stabilization can be brought to the region. I'm an eternal optimist, so this might be just wishful thinking.
  19. Because defensive short stops aren't hard to find. He was a high draft pick and that comes with high financial obligation and higher expectations. Just the way it works. You don't draft someone at the top of the draft and hope for them to be a fringe mlb player, you are drafting with the hope of at least a solid regular. The results haven't been there yet. I'm skeptical about his status as a prospect. But i only have box scores and scouting reports to go by. He is still young so i don't think anybody is writing him off.
  20. Without watching him it's impossible to grade him based on stats. Are his singles hard hit or dribblers through holes? Is he regularly squaring balls up? How is his approach? I remember when span started slow and didn't have any extra base hits. We all anticipated a slap hitter. When he came up we saw a professional approach and the ability to drive the ball. I hope that is what will happen with gordon.
  21. In that steak is 4 2b, 2bb and 6so. Not a bad steak for him at all. He doesn't have to hit for a ton of power, but he needs to be able to draw walks. I was thinking about this last night. He is reminding me a little if span when he was a prospect. Span barely had any extra base hits when he was young, but he learned to work the count and eventually started driving the ball. He was also very skinny when he started with the twins.
  22. Jham if i did nothing other than made you take a closer look at advanced metrics today.... I feel like the world is a better place. Now, the bb/9 thing...
  23. I don't see it. He is a skinny kid that doesn't square balls up. Maybe he needs to get stronger, but not being able to hit yourself out if a wet paper sack in low a doesn't equate to mlb success. He doesn't have to hit a bunch of hr, but at least hot some doubles. How does he have so many steals but is unable to stretch singles to doubles? My only answer is weak contact. He is still young, but so are a lot of guys in low a. Hicks had to repeat the level and did pretty well the next season so there is hope. Hicks also had drawn a ton of walks.
  24. I'm ok with that opinion. You're allowed to have it (i have that kinda pull around here). Especially if you are relying on your eye test, metrics be damned! Not snark. My main point was that the metric like Trevor May, any way you slice it. And, he is young enough, that his performance so far could be the actual pitcher he is going to become. I don't think he is the best on the staff either, that belongs to Gibson with a bullet right now.
