  1. I was a bit confused by the wording in the 3rd paragraph. Are you suggesting the Twins will elect to NOT pay Ryan in 2027 if they have to pay him 13M? Really sorry to hear that we won't pay that amount if he has another all star season in 2026. How much do the Pohlads expect to be able to pay a pitcher of his caliber?
  2. Can you imagine what the Twins Ownership 24 remaining questions looks like? 1- How do we not have less attendance this year without spending more money? 2- How did we accidentally spend money to get 3 catchers? oops! 3 - How many gifts to we have to give away before we can't call it a 'giveaway' night? The first 100 fans? 4- How big do we 'really' have to go before its not allowed to be called 'go big'?
  3. I can't figure out why they wouldn't even try to put someone over there like Larnach. A big lefty over there, who is bad in the outfield seems like the kind of guy you'd at least give a look at for that role. Larnach is obviously as good of an athlete as someone like Tortuga, who did have that job off and on for a bit. What's the worst that could happen - they fail and you move on.
  4. I SO wish you'd simply sell these glasses for those of us who live too far away to attend this sold out event. You did in 2021 and I have it, but have you ever considered making enough to sell, in addition to the ones given away at the event. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would purchase one. Side Note - I expect if you had a 'Twins Daily' store - we'd probably buy some swag there too.
  5. I don't blame Falvey for this. He has to try and wait for 'value' when it comes to free agents because the owners -DO NOT CARE- if we win or not. What else do they need to do to prove its only about the money for them. They keep telling us they want to win, and we keep believing them - Why? The Pohlads are no better than the Nuttigs in Pittsburgh and the Monforts in Colorado.
  6. This move accomplishes nothing other than an extra body some of our young guys will have to wait for before they can try to develop in the majors as a 4th or 5th place team in the Central.
  7. This could simply mean we called to ask how much money is was looking for. If was above the min salary, I'm betting that's why talks are no longer on-going.
  8. I have a question regarding the 2027 season maybe someone can shed some light on for me. I'm part of the group who feels probably more negative than most that there will be no 2027 season based on the totally out of whack salary differences between clubs (Juan Soto 61.9M and the Marlins team $70M in 2025). With that said, can someone confirm that IF the entire season is cancelled due to the lock out - any players under contract thru 2027 simply becomes a free agent - and essentially plays their last game for their current team in 2026 - Is that correct? I would think that IF the first half of this upcoming season goes poorly and we decide to cut bat on players like Joe Ryan - we would probably get less for him in return if the other club will only know they will be getting half a season and that no second year is guaranteed. Surly they could always sign him to an extension, but I wonder if that will play much of an impact on the offers we'd get for players with officially 1.5 years of team control, but could end up being only half a year.
  9. My thoughts would be yes, this would be a good move - if only for a million or two. BUT - considering the guys we've already brought in - I don't think there are any more spots for additional hitters. He has pitched before so....maybe in the bullpen?😱
  10. The more I think about this transition to Tom from Joe, the less optimistic I become. Sure, Joe failed. But - at least it seems Joe was a fan of the Twins! I think he really WANTED the team to win, and proved so by signing players like Correa and getting to a payroll level we've never seen before (league average). With Tom in place, plus with minority owners who are in the financial sector - I envision it will only be about the money going forward. If moves don't make the ownership more money then don't make them. At least Joe made moves in hopes of making the team better. It didn't work out - but at least he tried. Will Tom even try to win, or will he only try to make as much money as possible?
  11. I had high hopes for Joe and he immediately got credit from me for signing big names like Correa. While I do hope Tom can lead us to greener pastures, I almost feel a bit sorry for Joe. (As much as I can feel sorry for a billionaire anyway) I don't know the distribution of responsibility, but could the $500M in debts the Twins have actually come from the team's inept management? Or, as I would venture to guess, were these debts from other ventures and because of the interest on the loan, Joe was in a no-win situation. Since Tom was in charge of the other Pohlad ventures, is he the one who actually placed some of that debt onto the Twins to cover for debts he accrued with their other investments? Tom is saying all the right things, hopefully (for fans) Joe really was bad at his job and putting Tom in this role is really a step forward towards producing a winning team on the field in the near future. But, he has to show us, not tell us about it.
  12. I still think I'd be more excited about Susac than I am Jackson.
  13. Good article. I know a lot of people don't like 'analytics', but this is exactly why they should play a role in today's MLB. I'm liking this signing even more after this article.
  14. Bummer - I was hoping to see if Susac could push Jackson for a MLB spot.
  15. Why can't we invest the time in making one of these guys a competent 1st baseman? Instead of putting guys over there like Donovan Salano or Arraez, or La Torguga - Lets put someone over there who can catch high throws? Would also be nice to not have to 'find' a new first base player every year. Fill that spot, lighten the depth chart in the OF.
  16. I HATE this. But, I expect this is music to the Pohlads ears. Another way to save money and get cheap replacements who may never pan out to be half as good as Buck. Sounds like a great way to alienate a generation of fans who are just starting to get into baseball back in 2023, and even those of us who have been around and supporting the team for decades. Money over everything else. And no, I don't blame Buxton if this is true. How can I expect him to want to play for this team when as a fan with no skin in the game can barely want to watch this team - especially if he were playing for someone else. Sickening.
  17. I think 3/30 would be great, but probably low since they already did that with Vazquez and we saw his skills. Jeffers is better at this point, will likely need to go maybe 3/36 if he'll take that instead of testing the waters. Three years is long enough to hopefully see if the young due of catching prospects can make it to the bigs and possibly allow us to trade Jeffers while he can still play behind the plate.
  18. I see no reason to even consider someone like Arcia. He's been one of the worst hitters for 2 year? I would expect we can't see anyone like Culpepper, or even Houston hitting any worse than Arcia would for us - and save the few valuable dollars for different roster spots.
  19. I just hope the Front Office lets the coaches coach the way they know how, and Falvey and Co stay out of the way. They can share their thought with them, but let the coaches determine how they want the hitters to hit. I think they tried to make each of the last 2 hitting coaches (who had success before and after the Twins) fit a round peg into a square hole. The FO doesn't know everything, so I say again, let the coaches coach!
  20. I feel pretty good about the chances that they'd prefer to not field a team. If they didn't have to actually play the games - no need to hire anyone to work during games, etc. The only thing that matters to the owners is money - full stop
  21. I expect even the owners can see Ryan is a good value at 5.8. Worry is if they feel they can get the world for him for 2028 and beyond, then he's gone. Will move Lopez for less than they would take for Ryan, just to get his salary off the books. I anticipate the FO being forced to fill the pen with internal options making minimum salaries. For the hitters - I think Jeffers will be traded as he won't get any better as he plays his age 29 season and his salary is expected to increase. I expect they'd prefer to play someone with a minimum salary, but I can't find a starter worthy at that rate of pay - so I'll bring in McCann at only $100K higher than he made last year. Larnach is traded, Gasper is our back up C, and will go with a star rookie to be our DH/bench player. On the fence about Julien, but as long as making minimal money - I'll keep him on the team. I feel bad for Buxton, but I expect we'll come in at about $66.3M for this year as the owners prepare to lose a big amount during the 2027 lockout. C: James McCann ($1.10M) 1B: Kody Clemens ($1.10M) 2B: Luke Keaschall ($0.80M) 3B: Royce Lewis ($3.00M) SS: Brooks Lee ($0.80M) LF: James Outman ($0.80M) CF: Byron Buxton ($15.00M) RF: Matt Wallner ($0.80M) DH: Jenkins/Cullpepper/ERod ($0.80M) 4th OF: Alan Roden ($0.80M) Utility: Austin Martin ($0.80M) Utility: Edouard Julien ($0.80M) Backup C: Mickey Gasper ($0.80M) POS: Add Dead Money Here ($10.00M) SP1: Joe Ryan ($5.8M) SP2: Bailey Ober ($4.0M) SP3: Simeon Woods Richardson ($0.80M) SP4: Zebby Matthews ($.80M) SP5: Mick Abel ($.080M) RP: Justin Topa ($1.75M) RP: Kody Funderburk ($0.80M) RP: Cole Sands ($1.30M) RP: Pierson Ohl ($0.80M) RP: Travis Adams ($0.80M) RP: Connor Prielipp ($0.80M) RP: Marco Raya ($0.80M) RP: Andrew Morris ($0.80M) POS: Add Dead Money Here ($0.00M) Payroll is 48.43% under budget
  22. You surely said that with sarcasm, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's our opening day 1st baseman. He's already on the team (they value depth) and he's making the minimum salary (most importantly). This would be a very bad outcome for us, but I think more possible than we want to admit.
  23. I know you're right - I'm just trying to ignore them and hope my gut is wrong.
  24. I'll be honest - I generally get pretty interested and excited when reading about potential draft picks when we know we're likely to get a high pick. But with all the uncertainty about having a rosy future for our team - is anyone else kind of disengaged or not feeling a real passion for the team in regards to this stuff yet?
