Have Buxton on my fantasy team, and I hate this idea but considering cutting him for the rest of the year. Just not getting the production I want out of him, but don't want someone else to beat me with him if he gets hot.

Lets get thru both of these Cleveland series and then if we are still holding our own and our September call ups are here, I'd be ok with it. Just not yet.

I think we set our pen up to fail when we intentionally didn't do anything before the season even started. I actually (in hindsight) feel better about doing nothing this year than losing who we did last year. I think very few of us feel good about a long post season run in 2023 - might as well keep our mediocre farm system as it is instead of investing in expiring contracts that would also not likely put us in any better shape to be true contenders - while our prospects may be able to do that at some point in the future.

Well said - A tiny cynical part of me is glad they extended Rocco just so I can see people groan and complain without having any data to back up their claims (example - he pulls his pitchers too early when our starters lead the entire league in average innings pitched).

Agreed. The idea that it was this awful idea to pull Ober is dumb. The guy has never pitched close to this many innings in his career, and is obviously struggling as of late based on the significant increase in HR given up per innings pitched. Yet people want to keep sending him out there when we had a pen which should have been able to hold the lead like they're paid to do. If the pen was able to hold the lead would people still be complaining? Probably not. Was nice to see Julien playing 1st, and while I hope we don't have to put him into that 1B/DH category that we seem to have an excessive number of players in - if it keeps his bat in the line up, great!

Is It Time to Worry About Jhoan Duran?
farmerguychris replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Would love to see if he can develop a slider this offseason. With the Front Office love affair with that particular pitch, would only imagine it would greatly add to his options, even if only threw it a few times a game. -

Sure - the more positions they can play the better for us and less often we need to have Gallo at 1st. Give it a try now when the stakes are high, but not playoff high, to see if he can handle it.

Where Do the Twins Fit All of the Youth
farmerguychris replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Maybe just activate Buxton and put him in CF. If the wheels fall off, then they fall off and you put in on IL until he can play the field again? Putting him at DH isn't working and he's making too much to just sit on IL so more productive players can play. Still can DFA Gallo and I'm sure we can find someone else struggling to open another roster spot - its not like we're scoring too many runs per game.- 76 replies

I would like to see some other statistics that tell us how good he is defensively at 2B. He's improving and we obviously need his bat in the lineup - but exactly how bad is he, and how much is his D improving as the season moves on? Would love to keep him at 2B long term because we have enough depth now and in the future already for DH and 1B.

Where Do the Twins Fit All of the Youth
farmerguychris replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Get rid of Gallo now. It just makes no sense to keep him on the roster when others are being more productive. I liked the idea of signing him - it just didn't work out and now he's hurting the team. Good luck to him someplace else next year. That will allow us to bring Lewis up.- 76 replies

Lee and Lewis: Superstar Paths Cross in St. Paul
farmerguychris replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think we have some great future talent in the field coming in the next 2-3 years. BUT, will we be able to have any pitching by then? Maybe continue to draft bats and trade for pitchers? The future looks bright! -
Maybe I missed a previous post on this topic, but shouldn't we be concerned about the Diamondbacks setting a franchise record 8 steals against us this weekend? I know 6 of them came on double steals, but this still alarms me and considering it is a copycat league - I would envision this will be something a lot of other teams try to copy against us. Are they just that good at stealing bases, or is this something we're perhaps not as good at as we thought when it comes to holding, and stopping other teams from running against us?

I like Max. But - his inconsistency makes me uninterested in bringing him back when we have alternatives who are cheaper, and have at least as high of floor as he has waiting in the wings. However, I agree with the article - with this FO history of keeping vets longer than they should, I fear they will pick that option up. I felt that even before he started hitting recently, and I think this only confirms that fear. I still hope they can pick it up and trade him allowing us to use that $10M elsewhere.

Should Fans Trust the Twins' Front Office?
farmerguychris replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the term 'trust', is an interesting choice for this headline. Fact is - it doesn't matter if we (as fans) trust them or not. The ownership's opinion of them is all that matters. While we openly question many of their moves - or lack of moves - it is not 'trust' that is under evaluation IMO - instead the word I might use may be 'do I have confidence' in the F.O. Do they get it 'right' more often than other teams F.O. teams. I think the jury is still out. Something this team has done since their arrival is to try and get 'bargains' by hoping below market contracts for oft injured players we might never otherwise get. That doesn't really seem to be working well I'm sad to say, but I understand why they want to go that route - swing big and hope for the best MAY be a better plan than signing lower ceiling guys who may stay healthy would be a good subject to dig more into.- 38 replies

I don't think we could have sold off enough to become a serious world series contender. With that said, my goal remains to be to win ONE playoff game. Yes, we need to get there first, but one post season victory is still within reach, and be a milestone we haven't accomplished in 20 years. We didn't get any weaker in our farm system, and can still improve by having players like Lewis come back, and getting rid of dead weight in players like Gallo (addition by subtraction). Now if they do any cuts like letting Gallo go is the question. I fear they will not.

3 Trades the Twins Must Make Today

I would prefer doing nothing than moving on from one of our top 3 future guys - that is my biggest fear. -
Week in Review: Another Backslide
farmerguychris replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was on the fence about being buyers or sellers - Now, I'm in the seller column. We won't be able to trade for enough players to win in the postseason if our regulars can't even win 1 game against someone like the Royals. Trade away expiring contracts and build for next year. We could still back into the playoffs, maybe even win a game (reasonable goal for the Twins) and hopefully benefit next season from our guys who could simply walk after this year.
