  1. I say no. If Sano was not in the picture, I might say yes. With so many unknown factors, I think it best to go from year to year.
  2. minor league fill ins. partly because of Rosario suspension & Buxton injury. Their experience helps keep the kids in line
  3. Any Rockies player deserves a long look. Playing there is a pitcher's nightmare.
  4. EE = Cesar Tovar ? Joe in LF ? If Yogi Berra could play LF, Joe certainly can
  5. Gold ? Gold ??? We don't need no freakin' Gold.
  6. Moli = big brain = paralysis by analysis Moli = NIce & approachable = paralysis by analysis Moli = Why has he not been a manager before this ??????????
  7. tipping pitches ? I wonder if it was real or a figment of Moli's imagination?
  8. Here is the link to an interesting SI article on the top 50 Free Agents. Which ones would you want ? http://www.si.com/mlb/2014/11/03/reiter-50-free-agent-rankings-max-scherzer-jon-lester-james-shields
  9. After a year of Molly, with a losing record, pitching arms on the DL, clubhouse disharmony and open rebellions (<< my prediction) we will all look back with fondness on the Gardy years.
  10. We can only hope that Rosario will play his way into the 2015 opening day lineup
  11. Swarzak is a proven long man. Unless we have 5 solid starters, we need someone who can suppress runs and give us a chance to score. What lefthander do you want to use against lefthanded batters ? Tonkin, Pressly, & Oliveros showed nothing special in 2014. No matter what the Twins do, I doubt our bullpen will perform much differently than in 2014 unless the starters pitch better and limit the relievers innings.
  12. I agree. There is no indication that Cuellar is not a good bullpen coach. Also Steinbach might be a good coach to bring back.
  13. I am disappointed. As a staunch Gardy fan, I would be happier to see someone outside the organization get the job. However, perhaps Molly will hire Bruno as the batting coach, and that will make me happy
  14. Pinto could be a powerful major league hitter, even though his catching skills are limited..How would you like to see a lineup with Sano, Vargas, Arcia, & Pinto. One possible way to do that is by using a Pinto rotation so that Pinto, Vargas & Mauer play 5 games out of 6. Usually Pinto and Vargas DH unless Mauer needs a break. Mauer plays some games in LF. Pinto Catches 2 times in 6 games. Pinto DH's 3 Times in 6 games, Vargas plays 1B 2 times in 6 games. Then 3 times in the next 6 games. Vargas DH's 3 Times in 6 games, Mauer plays 1B 4 times in 6 games. Mauer plays LF 1 time in 6 days.
  15. Top Prospects - Catchers >> The end of season list. #28 – Stuart Turner – 22 – C – Ft. Myers Miracle #31 – Mitch Garver – 23 – C – Cedar Rapids Kernels #35 – Brian Navarreto – 19 – C – Elizabethton Twins #39 – Jorge Fernandez – 20 – C – Elizabethton Twins #43 – Rainis Silva - 18 – C – GCL Twins
  16. Modern baseball is over enamored with strikeouts, in my opinion. Innings pitched is most important. Being able to pitch (as opposed to strikeouts) is more important. Nothing is more frustrating than having a pitcher who does not finish players off. Letting batters foul off ball after ball, running up the pitch count rather than throwing a ball that the batter hits to a defender is better than trying to strike out a batter, and letting him foul off ball after ball. Buehrle is good at that.
  17. Not a good fit ? Yes, he was not good in 2014. Will he better in 2015? If he is, why not in Minnesota ? Why is Nolasco not a good fit for the Twins ?
  18. That was a great article. Thanks Steve. This is a link to Reeds 2014 stats. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=596082#/career/R/pitching/2014/ALL
  19. Nobody has mentioned that Sano had Tommy John surgery for an arm injury. This means that Sano needs time to work his throwing mechanics before he moves up to the Twins. I would not be surprised if Sano is terrible until July or so and a fall call-up is not a done deal.
  20. Arizona has thin dry air usually at this time of year. Probably its a hitters league as breaking balls don't seem to break so much.
  21. If baseball would let technology call balls and strikes, both hitters and pitchers would feel more confident and would speed up the game. Add to that the 12 second rule and not allowing batters to leave the batters box and the problem is solved. Games would be quicker because each pitcher vs batter confrontation would be resolved quicker and the casual fan would be drawn in more. The time of commercial breaks is about right at this time. It gives the fans a chance to break concentration for so that they can refocus on the next half-inning of hitter-pitcher combat.
  22. Why do so many think Santana deserves to play SS? Everything leading up to 2014 indicated that Santana was an unfinished prospect at SS. Escobar did play sporadically and learned. He played a steady SS in 14 and if Santana the hitter had not emerged, we would be overjoyed with Escobar's play and we'd be looking forward to further improvement in 15. Santana the hitter played a steadily improving CF and, barring injuries, he could be a top caliber CF by the end of 15. He still has to overcome the "sophomore jinx", but his speed and bunting skills, should prevent Santana from falling into prolonged slumps.
  23. To me, this is a futile discussion. We don't yet have a manager, and the manager will have a big effect on the choice of outfielders. We don't know if TR plans to bring in a high salary player, and if so, will it be a starter or an outfielder? Will it be a FA or will it be obtained by trades. Too many unknowns for this thread to be anything but the rankest of speculations.
  24. A solid fielding SS is so very important to the pitching staff. A solid fielding SS is less important to the pitching staff. Let Escobar continue to play SS and Santana to play CF and they should both be solid at their positions next year.
