    Best bullpen in MLB. 3/6 inherited runners scored for the season. Familiar. The ST routines really have the boys ready for the season. Ready for September baseball.

    The second "oh my" at toward the end of the movie as Crash deftly and precisely unsnaps the garter with a one finger flick was a perfect reprise, too, eh? Especially after the great scene with Nuke's struggles. Yes, Brockmire, like many shows, suffered from renewal and not ending the story when it needed to be ended. Just the 4th season for me. But the first season...... and the very best ever opening scene of the series....... fulgurant.

    No balk. That this is not reviewable, or can't be challenged is the problem. Or that the umps can't conference and fix it. He did it all very calmly and deliberately. Kept his hands still, stepped off, turned and threw. Horrible call. The kind that should be corrected. Batters sure are getting to his pitches, though. Whether it's soft contact or hard contact, it is tons of contact.

    "Oh, my!" ........ and..... "Oh, my." My #1 favorite baseball movie. (But "Brockmire" my favorite baseball series.) There are sooooo many great lines. So many. "Well, I believe in the soul, the c___, the p____, the small of a woman's back, the hangin' curveball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent over-rated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. Good night."

    That Lopez and Correa. They really know how to prepare for the season. Respected vets. Don't worry about them. When the unearned runs are caused by the pitcher's own futility and error, since a kid, I have always thought they should count as earned.

    Well, not really a fan of the Blue Jays, per se, but if that is what you got from the post, I can't help you. Opening Day can include a home game for the Blue Jays, sure, as long as there are other games being played the same day. It used to be that all teams played on opening day, or at least almost all of them, unless there was a rain out or something. Having one game be the Opening Day game, the only game played, and it be somewhere other than a "home" park ......... I hate it.

    I really don't care one way or another. I just HATE Opening Day to be in another country. NOT OPENING DAY!!! This is America's game. Opening Day game(s) should never be in another country. We grew the game, it is our tradition. It makes me puke that Opening Day has been in Japan the last two seasons. I get the desire to expand the audience and of course, increase the holy revenue. The fan base is dropping because it is too hard to watch the games of your favorite team anymore. In the 60s and 70s and even 80s, the teams were on TV for no fee. Now, with player greed and owner greed, the business monster charges more to make more to pay players more, all the while becoming more and more fan unfriendly. They make the fan pay excessively for parking, pay excessively for food, for merch, for TV access..... for anything they can figure out now to "tax" the fan for. If you want fans to dream of going to the ballpark, and kids to come and create new generations of fans, make it easier for them to become fans, make the access ubiquitous again. Sick uber fans like those that post on sites like this will always be fans, but we will be dying sooner than never and not replaced unless kids find the love, too. Great for the game to become more international. BUT OPENING DAY SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN THE USA!!

    I’ve been telling people about this wonderful movie for years (since it came out on HBO in 1987) when baseball movies come up. It ranks in my top 5. Hardly anyone had ever heard of it. Glad you found it and gave it a shout out. Along with a rare Teller role, William Petersen way before CSI, Henry Gibson (who I first saw on Laugh-In), and a yummy Virginia Madsen as Dixie Lee Boxx!

    I just hope he doesn't hurt his ankle jumping, or running to first base. It would be nice to have a prospect that can actually stay on the field these days.

    I trust that didn't age well. He even came in in the 9th with a save opportunity! Granted, he left with the bases loaded and one out after giving up a lead off ground out, a walk, single, and was pulled after an 11 pitch walk and 24 pitches total. Duran didn't let any runs score on his watch, right? Bosiokovic (who?) bailed him out by immediately by giving up a walk and a Jeferson Morales error let the other two runners in. Even unknown ST bullpen pitchers are good at letting inherited runners score! 4-5 today with Varland letting 1 of 2 in. The thing that has happened to Duran is that batters don't swing and miss like they used to. Even last year. The 11 pitch walk had 6 fouls by Thayron Liranzo (who?). With a first pitch called strike, he touched every pitch he swung at. No swing and miss stuff.

    No, I mean about double that. (Remember, Lopez was also over 4 for the 2024 season, more of an innings eater than #1 numbers - pretty close to Cease and Lugo right now!) But you know what it is. It just came down from 9 something to about 8. You are right. It gives me more confidence if our pitchers absolutely suck in spring training rather than looking like Ober. What fools gold that is, eh? Correa is right on track, too. The non Twins fans and writers that are published national prognosticators all like both Ober and Ryan more than Lopez in the predictions (not that that means anything, either).

    When your hyped best pitcher is giving up about an earned run per inning, I guess you have to try to find something hopeful to spin it is a good thing, and ignore the rest of his ramp up performance. A lot of top pitchers seem more inclined to look and actual results as a more important indicator.

    I would have taken Hunter Greene. I know, he had a Tommy John. I still liked Hunter. Still do. I like Royce, too, and he gave us some great excitement in 2023. Hunter will be the ace that Twins fans like to pretend Lopez is. In this business, where players are ultimately assets instead of people to the Administration (sure, they like to put up the front that they really care, do the PR and all, but will dump or trade you in a heartbeat in the end), that is why most teams are a team of strangers, these days, to their teammates and the fans, mixed together because of high dollar or low dollar acqusition costs). Bigger, stronger, faster, etc etc, the best players ever..... .220 is a great hitter now and .330 is not. It is a real shame for Lewis, and I really feel for him. He gets hurt just running, 9-10 steps out of the box. This team is built on the top 3 players who have proven over and over that they can't stay on the field. ST can be such a curse.... don't even bring up the WBC. This won't be the only guy that doesn't make it to the start of the season. Yoga yoga yoga. Weights without double flexibility will ruin you. It is always amazing to me that a player hurts himself just running, when they are "the best athletes that ever played the game" (and some in "the best bullpen in MLB"!). And Lewis' goal was to play as many games as possible. He will be lucky to make 100.

    It's better than not hitting (or playing much) like the guys we really need to hit and be consistent. So there's that.

    Silly. Homers had Lopez winning it in spring training last year. No player is a candidate, or is it all players are candidates at this point. Check in after the all-star break.

    Dodgers have been doing it for years, just with better talent, and results. Twins try to do it by bringing up players and then switching positions. Not only are they going through the stress of being new to the show, but now they are thrown out there playing a position they are not prepared for. Defense really suffers.

    Good thing he is healthy and in top shape. He’s just building confidence. And if you listen to him being interviewed, he justifies it very loquaciously.

    Not that much. He gave up 3 earned with 4 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings his first game (such a small sample, for sure, coming into this game with a 13.50 ERA), and the unknown today only let 1 of his 2 inherited runners in. So sure, a bit. And like they say for the vets, it doesn't matter, just stay healthy. Unfortunately, it seems part of the requirements for being in the best bullpen in MLB, like last year, is to give up a lot of inherited runs for your teammates. 😇

    Lopez's performance and shiny 7.94 spring ERA gets buried with all the relief disappointments. If this keeps up, it may become the most important news.

    Canterino may as well start pitching with his other arm. Definitely drop him from the 40 man. Apparently not meant to be a professional baseball pitcher.

    Just trade Julien already. He might be real good somewhere else. Not here. Not with who runs the team now. And regardless if he can hit lefties, he is a liability in the field, and aren't you just sick of watching him take so many good pitches, and especially 3rd strikes? I am. It doesn't matter what arm the pitcher is pitching with you don't swing anyway.

    Maybe. But Wallner was sooooo horrible and not ready in ST that he shouldn't have even made the team. He was in shape. And he didn't get injured. But he wasted so many team opportunities in April because of it, and it even took him a while in AAA to get going. That means it took him about 3 months to get up to speed. ST ABs and success does count for confidence, and preparation, I just read this article about Julio Rodríguez and I wish more guys on this team that tanked the last month and a half of last season had the same attitude about ST. These guys should all be in shape coming in, and more at bats, not less, should only help them to be ready to be full throttle come opening day.
