True, and some of them, like the Giants, are tapping into that instead of the Cleveland and Texas orgs....
  2. h2oface
But yet, the Dodgers and the Rays seem to do it with a lot lower draft picks every year...... but easier? probably. Seems the guys that go through the Tampa FO system do well when they leave. Giants haven't taken long to rise to the top, either.

Looking back at this........ is real depressing.

"And in any case, Falvey wasn't really hired to sign pitchers. He was hired to develop them." I don't agree. This is semantics. They go hand in hand. If you trade for prospect pitching, that has been partially developed in other orgs, you can't really take complete credit for developing them. That is just about all the pitching in the pipeline. Traded for prospect pitching. Every FO is hired to sign pitchers. Prospects and free agents. These guys were not only about developing, but identifying! It seems, with the success of those they let go or traded away for virtually nothing, and the failures of those they have chosen to fill immediate needs, they could get better at identifying. A lot better.

Expected. That might be the biggest problem. They expected to be good, and seemed to ignore the last 4o days, over half, of the short 2020 season, in which they were barely a .500 team, and moving downward, both at the plate and on the mound. And they went 0-3 (0-6 total) in the playoffs. That continued this year, and there was no upgrade in any of the pitching. Horrible choices. Horrible. And Burrows on the mound.... for 2 innings yesterday! Still making them.

But their pen was one of the best ever, especially the 7/8/9th inning guys. No ace(s) and horrible pen is what the story is here. How is that working for you?

I just don't see the talent in the wings that you must see. The hopeful talent is all injured or in AA, and we won't see it in the next 7 weeks. What we are going to see, as far as the pitching goes, is filler and cast offs just to put a product out there for the rest of the season. I wish for better, but I am not fooling myself. Maybe Joe Ryan...... Any update on Alcala?

We made him throw all of 8 pitches in the 7th. Giolito should have a complete game here.
  9. h2oface
?When the Rays play the Jays? That is an easy one for me. No trick. Berrios. Home grown and never a roider.
  10. h2oface
Context....... I didn't take RickOShea's comment "liner off Gio's forehead" as serious, either.

Did you notice that after Garcia pitched so well, Barnes came in and with the help of Cave - well, it is all on Cave really, but it got scored as a double! - and the inherited runner scores and is charged to Garcia, who pitched so well. Classic 2021 Twins.
  12. h2oface
Missed....... the forehead..... Leg is not going to do the trick.
  13. h2oface
Giolito only has 55 pitches. The boys are really making him work. First Sano drops the Robert pop-up. And then Cave....
  14. h2oface
Fair? I have no idea what you mean here. I guess none of it matters anymore, anyway.
  15. h2oface
Garcia gives up one hit..... 32 pitches... and gets pulled. Must have been on a pitch count, eh? But Burrows? Make him finish his innings, no matter what!!!!
  16. h2oface
Are you on a time delay? Chicago is batting...... There goes Garcia's "no hitter".....
  17. h2oface
No doubt he is doing his best. And that, from a team standpoint, is a bit of a problem. Detroit, who take so many of our cast offs (and now have a better team with them than we do) already realized he was doing his best and this is what you get and have. Nothing against Burrows personally. I hope he does what is his best..... which can be seen with the Tigers and the Twins now..... for a different team.
  18. h2oface
Hmmmm. Do you need a poll to know? Another first round high school pitching prospect. We are now taking Detroit cast offs.
  19. h2oface
Our guys no hit with minimum batters faced through 3.
  20. h2oface
I'm all for the "tryouts" for these rookies, etc...... but there should be some a@@ chewing going on. Larnach, in the first, lollygagged to field the ball and Goodwin hustled and made it a double, all because Larnach was just lazy. Robert - first he was just about on second already by the time Sano's eyes-closed drop was immediately picked up, and then he hustles in the field and steals the hit from Sano. If our guys are going to be lazy, they need to be taken out the the game then and benched for a day or two. Larnach needs to have something to jolt him. Baldelli seems to baby these guys. At least they should be trying hard and hustling, and not being lazy.
  21. h2oface
People pay to see these games. If this is what the Twins are going to do the rest of the season, just don't charge admission, and make the games free.
  22. h2oface
Now they have just given up. May as well not even play these games if that is what they are going to do. At least do it on the road, and try to win the games at home.
  23. h2oface
Sano even closed his eyes just before the ball hit his glove. Trying to catch a ball with your eyes closed. Professional.
  24. h2oface
Never seen anything like this. Like they didn't already know what they had in Burrows. And it isn't even on the road, it is for the hometown crowd. This is a horrible product. It never should have even happened. You don't have Beau Burrows start. You shoudn't even have him on the team. Not the MLB team. Baldelli and the FO have gone totally nuts. What is their problem?
  25. h2oface
They judged Rooker and Larnach to be ahead of Baddoo in the depth chart. Baddoo became expendable to them. Big mistake. We have a whole set of new players that are not so young, but still strike out about 50% of the time. When hitting (not strikeouts) is their calling card, and they can't hit, and they suck in the field...... it will not make for a better team. I hope they all get it together. We don't need a team of poor fielding striking out .200 (if we are lucky) batters. But that is what we are looking at.
