  1. One at bat short...... milking the prospect status. I hear he is supposed to be good. We will see. I hope that doesn't mean Alex Meyer good. I hear he is supposed to be real good, too.
  2. I like that there is no talk of the sabermatician's favorite prediction... regression. Opps.
  3. I had to chuckle reading the MLB articles as Bollinger uses "Ace" in his sub-headline (and also misreports that Sano had three walks), and new guy Ian Browne writes "ace Phil Hughes". You know, no matter what Hughes does in ST, I expect his April to be the usual awful, as only once in his whole career has he performed well the opening month of the season, and that includes his "ace" year in 2014. ST might not be the indicator you are looking for. We might have to wait until May to find out.
  4. Ha. Some things don't ever seem to change, even in Spring Training. Twins' pitchers manage all of 3 strikeouts, while the hitters are in mid-season form with 11 K's
  5. I can't see the Twins, but with 15 teams using 10 ballparks all in the megaslopolis around Phoenix, the Cactus League is a great place to land for a baseball fan as well, and the road games are not affected like in Florida. http://www.cactusleague.com/map.php
  6. Folks sure seem to stick with a top pick. Being number 4 overall seems to create a magic cloud of denial around him that continues to cloak reality. Michael Jordan was a tremendous athlete, too. All I have to say about Stewart is.... and I am not from Missouri....... Show me! I am starting to yawn just hearing or reading your name.
  7. This is not what this thread is about, and I do not want to hi-jack it with this aside. I will respond one last time, briefly, to the OP's response, and be done. It is just not true that Morhardt was not saying that at the time, at least to the Angels, who he worked for. Of course a scout isn't going to be blabbing it to the world and tip others off to his insight when there are so many picks ahead of them. The whole story was chronicled in a great Sports Illustrated article by Tom Verducci back in August 2012, I think it was, with the cover story "The Supernatural". (It also told the tale of how a trade with the Mets for a mediocre infielder named Ron Gardenhire that took Jeff Trout's AAA spot led to Mike's dad hanging it up and having kids..... and Mike Trout's existence). To say "nobody" knew is technically true. Nobody ever knows the future. But Morhardt was all in, and especially at the time. Regardless of the other 99 stories, this was a one of the ones. And there are a lot of people who are eventually "let go" in professional sports' jobs. Even those that win multiple championships.
  8. "Trout was not an uberprospect entering the draft." Trout was always who he was, and was going to be. Greg Morhardt knew it in his bones, and would tell anyone over and over who would listen. Trout most definitely was an "uberprostpect" that everyone but Morhardt didn't have the right stuff to see. In a 2012 Orange County Register story, Morhardt recalled how high he was on Trout. (Morhardt happened to play in the Twins minor leagues in the 1980s with Mike Trout's father, Jeff Trout.) "I didn't think there was a better player than Mikey," said Morhardt, who by that point had become a national cross-checker for the team. "I'll put him against anybody. Sometimes you have to jump out there a little bit. I didn't think there was a better amateur player in the country. At some point he's going to have a chance to be a Hall of Fame baseball player."
  9. The article sure makes Kintzler sound attractive. I really don't get too excited about a reliever with such a low strikeout rate though.
  10. If Plouffe can improve as much as he has in the field as a 3rd sacker (and Koskie did, too), just why can't Sano? I think Sano profiles fine as a third baseman. For what it’s worth, I believe that Miguel Sano can handle the duties of a third baseman just fine. I think if he commits to it and really wants to be a good third baseman, I think he can. I know he’s a big guy. Everyone knows he’s a big guy. He walks in the room and you think ‘Dang, that’s a big guy.’ But, he’s athletic and he’s young, and obviously he’s got a great arm. I think he profiles just fine at third. Being young and athletic has lots of advantages. If Plouffe gets hurt and Sano isn't, I sure hope that Sano gets the call to start in his absence. It would be a shame if he doesn't.
  11. Without Buxton in center, the outfield is a total mess. Arcia and Park can be a left right platoon at DH, at least to start the season, giving Park a better opportunity to adjust, and Aricia a better chance for success. This is a total mess, with lots of hope for it to all fall in place. Without Buxton coming through, it is a massive mess.
  12. .....or Meyer. Wicked fastball and slider shutting down the opposition, with May and Berrios in the rotation. A guy can dream, right?
  13. The best news I read here is that Perkins spent 6 weeks in Fort Meyers and actually WORKED OUT! I hope Dozier spent some time doing the same. A lot of time. Mauer too. And I don't mean kind of. I hope they have all changed their lifestyles a bit and take it seriously that they haven't been able to last a whole season two years in a row. I don't think Perkins was over worked at all. I think that is his job. The key is to develop a lifestyle that keeps your body ready and develops endurance, especially as you age. Mauer and Dozier and Perkins were not doing that, and it was telling in the second half of the season. Sure, there are the few fatties that one could site, but I wonder how good they could have been/be if they cared about their body as part of the million dollar contracts.
  14. I think the record is skipping again.........
  15. Posting fees are not salary. They don't even go to the player. I consider it spending some of the money that they didn't spend in 2012 and 2013 and 2014.... when there was still no limits on the budget. It certainly isn't part of this year's salary figures. The Posting fee is part of the budget for the year, but it is not payroll. It is an expense, like travel, per diems, uniforms, etc......... but not payroll.
  16. "Since 2010, his ERA+ have been 96, 146, 94, 163, 95, and then 129 in 2015." This is his off year coming up. Don't sign him.
  17. "Since 2010, his ERA+ have been 96, 146, 94, 163, 95, and then 129 in 2015." This is his off year coming up. Don't sign him.
  18. I think that focusing on a not so swell 83-79 record instead of a 2nd place finish that involved tanking at the end of the season again and going 1-4 in the last 5 games, with a 3 game home losing streak to end the season in which the team only scored 1 run a game in the final home series......... is a more accurate representation of the reality of the progress. It was a pretty paltry 2nd place finish, but yes, it was good enough for 2nd in the central, and barely over .500. Talking heads seem to know less and less, regardless of whether someone gives them a check for what they ramble. KC was picked to not do well and not get close to the 2014 season for 2015. I can't believe that the Twins' bullpen, the biggest problem, was not addressed at all. One could say there is still time, but only giblets are left to chose from.
  19. When you break it down like that......... what record will the rotation be breaking? The record for mediocrity?
  20. It seems that Buxton is trying to set the record of time being a top prospect. What is it.... 8 years now? Is he 30 yet? (just kidding... it only seems like that - all that hope and dreams). 1 at bat and he would be unqualified. To me... the one at bat deal makes it a bit cheap to consider him a prospect, regardless whether he is "officially" qualified or not. Milking it for everything it is worth. I sure hope he becomes a player and not a prospect sooner than never. Congrats on your "the top source for Twins prospect information". Here's to writing a "Dream Year for the Twins" book after winning a World Series!
  21. Much better than a planned, focused and regular training regimen, you think?. I understand, and I have done something similar a couple different winters after the dreadful 2010 Haiti quake. With the trip there, the different eating and water intake, I would say not as decent a "workout" as you might think, unless you are speaking from experience instead of supposition. Quite a bit of downtime waiting for supplies (which always seemed to be a problem), etc. But then, the 3-4 weeks our group spent could be a bit different deal, but the building programs I was exposed to are all pretty similar. I think it is honorable, and certainly rewarding, just not what he needs to be doing to extend his ability to not fade so drastically as the year moves on, and certainly not a cardio workout. I don't think he is doing it this year, anway (I recall reading somewhere). Point is, he can do that for years and years after his baseball career is over. It is surely an honorable thing to participate in. The chimes are sounding for doing something different in the off season, as what he has been doing (and what some other teammates are doing, including folks like Mauer, Hughes, and Perkins) is not helping him/them last a whole season.
  22. Dozier's winters in Haiti don't seem to provide for his physical stamina in the second half of the season. While fulfilling to him, it isn't providing well for his being in good enough shape to last a whole season. Perhaps he should hang with Berrios some and get in condition that might help him as a ball player in his ball playing years.
  23. Is there an inside joke or reason for Milhone instead of Milone? Just curious.... I noticed that you use an alternate spelling consistently, and wonder if I am missing something.....
  24. I certainly can't say "very good", nor can I support it with the most recent year's stat lines if I could say it . It might even be a stretch to say league average.
  25. I think the the most teams look at Milone the same way, and are discounting him.. I know if I was attending a game, and Milone was the starter, I would be disappointed (although not as disappointed as I was when I had to watch Pelfrey last year in the series against the Angels out here in California). If I was to be the man that selected the "average pitcher(s)" to keep if I needed to cull from all the other wide selection of "average pitchers" on the roster, Milone would be one of the first. Maybe I am not being statistically fair, but sometimes one can't really put the finger on reasons. The thing I like about Milone, is that if I needed another average pitcher for injury replacement, it could turn out OK if I needed Tommy Milone to step in. I don't think that is what role Milone would like to play, though.
