  1. I look at Alex Meyer last year.... and the times he looked like he was ready, but was suppressed. That would have been the time to get him up, but with Anderson, it might not have worked, anyway. It is just as good an option as a Graham. That might have changed everything in his progression. As it wasn't tried.... as Seth says..... no way to know.... it is impossible to know.
  2. No..... I wasn't referring to anyone in particular. I can't say that I keep track that well of who says what, necessarily. Just a "if the shoe fits, wear it", I guess. I too would rather try it than not. Plus, with many young ball players, like Santana, some are ready for a while, and then they are not. But to just say that someone is not ready, like Berrios..... I find it is folly until you try and see. Many folks out here in LA said Corey Seager wasn't ready and needed more 'seasoning', but he is proving them all wrong for the Dodgers.
  3. I love the not ready yet camp. The only way you know if someone is ready... is to try it. Just look at the fallout of the prospect list to realize that the pundits that claim to know..... don't more often than not.
  4. Hey....... but Dozier and his mendoza line second half performance is still batting second........
  5. ....... and both are/were professional dancers. There are many that learn to talk very good english, no matter were they come from or what family they are born into.
  6. Good thing Kepler wasn't at his pitch limit or innings limit, and doesn't need to give his eyes a rest and be shut down. This should be interesting.
  7. Kepler sporting a .167 average in the series .... I hope he comes through a hero in game 5.
  8. I sure hope that the twins don't let the best manager go to manage another team, and keep the incumbent, ala the Vikings letting Mike Tomlin go and keeping Brad Childress. That would be a shame.
  9. Nice article and analysis. I hope you didn't jinx him.
  10. Perkins is only reliable in the first half of a season, especially as he continues to believe that he doesn't need to get himself in great shape, but just kinda workout in the off season. One may as well plan for his softness to fade now, and be ready to replace his role after the all-star break.
  11. Burdi and Shag-wa giving it up. I hope they are not practicing for the show!
  12. Great article! Get him up before September 1. Time to get on with it. Santana is not eligible for the playoffs. Berrios has to be.
  13. When Nolasco is written about, "quality peripherals" invariably are mentioned. Fact is, Nolasco is not a "useful starter". He never seems to get the results the peripherals suggest he is capable of, and it was a bad signing, unless you are conditioned to accept that a win one lose one pitcher with a 4-5 ERA is useful. Santana, Nolasco, Pelfrey, and even the Hughes extension (when he had 2 years left on his contract) was misguided, in my opinion, at the time and now. I am so tired of mediocre free agents being signed.
  14. It is beginning to look like two - or at least one - barely deserving teams may be playing in the wild card play in game. It may as well be our Twins! I found it interesting that Perkins declared that in his warm ups for the all star game he first started feeling his problem. It is when I had suspected. He was getting shelled in the all star game. It was quite a contrast between Perkins and Chapman.
  15. Too young and his arm can't do the innings, eh? Amazing that he also pitched throughout the off season, if not just for workouts. Amazing that guys used to start every 4 days and pitch complete games and shutouts, and throw well over 200 innings. People aren't that different from 30 years ago. This philosophy of saving years is futile. Good thing they saved Meyer last year. Wouldn't want to get a guy to help the team just because he is young. If you are worried about innings, just put him in the pen. It still needs lots of help.
  16. I don't think this splash even has a ripple. Well, maybe a couple rings. We will see. I love 35 year old pitchers. It makes me feel like the rebuild is finished. At least he looks like he is in shape - eh, Perkins?
  17. "The Manager, Paul Molitor, kept giving up outs by sending base stealers. They were successful just once in four attempts on the night." Actually, 2 for 5, but whose counting............
  18. A short stint in Rochester, to me, does not mean that Buxton is a Red Wing with obligations. I like getting him up to qualify for the post season if it still looks like it has a possibility of happening. I mean, if minor league playoffs was the priority, then why not send him to Chattanooga? He was there longer. Doesn't he owe them more? See....... the only thing that really matters is the MLB team. Rochester has Arcia and Vargas and Santana. That ought to be enough. In regard to who plays centerfield - if Buxton is the best of two exceptional choices defensively, then what does it matter if Hicks is in right? Hicks knows what the future is looking like, and best to get on with it sooner than later. When is comes to sample size - might as well take the small samples of hotness and use them instead of waiting the the fall. That great small sample could be generated in the show instead of AAA.
  19. Like Tonkin, Duffey seems to lack "the right stuff", blinded by the bright lights. Let's see if Berrios can take the spotlight run with it, instead of look like a deer in the headlights. Duffey had his chance to debut, the only chance he can have to debut. The people in charge said he was the most ready. If that is the case, the Twins are really in trouble. Let's see if Berrios can show them they were wrong.
  20. Are you channeling the thought process of Terry Ryan now? Fear of trading the wrong redundancy paralyzes one from taking any action? I thought this year, the second of the 4 year contract, was supposed to be the "comeback season" for Nolasco.
  21. You mean.... you think that the Jays package was way superior to my example that the Twins could have offered, don't you? My original post was an example, not necessarily "the package" to be dissected, but an example of a package that would not "gut the farm", and deal with redundancies. I did enjoy the breakdown you gave, though, and thanks for that. Modify the package however you like. I personally think that you are undervaluing the Twins' players - like many undervalued Carlos Gomez and Francisco Liriano and Aaron Hicks and Trevor Plouffe on these boards - and are over valuing the Jays traded players (much like Meyer was overvalued by Ryan in the trade for Span). I mean.... the Twins paid about 50 million each for Nolasco and Santana, extended Hughes with 2 years left on his contract, and then there's the resigning of Pelfrey for the 2 years. The Twins seem to like redundancies, including the redundancies of middle of the rotation arms that can't strike people out but are hoped to eat innings (even though they really didn't/don't).
  22. And there you have it. Die hard fans have even trained themselves to not hope for anything extravagant. Nothing extravagant, please. I know these are my Twins. Just give me replacement level, and I will try to be happy. Maybe we can get to the playoffs and World Series again with a bunch of pitchers that maybe will have a good game sometimes, and utility players at the keystone. disclaimer: I am not putting words in the poster I replied to's mouth, or assuming he is thinking what my thought cloud made up.
