  1. He wasn't even that bad last year and they paid him a small amount in $2M. I don't get why we get so hung up on him around here. Edit: This is based on the signing last year, not the current one
  2. I guess I am the opposite and will probably watch a lot more Twins baseball than I have in the last 2 months.
  3. What was wrong with the signing in the 1st place? He was coming off a year where he pitched 46 innings to the tune of 1.76 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with Washington and they gave him $2M. It wasn't a bank breaker. Bringing him back this year was a bit of a head scratcher , but are you really just going to use that to judge the front office's intelligence? The uproar and outrage over Belisle on this forum is so blown our of proportion it's incredible.
  4. I mean....maybe eventually. The guy has thrown 27 innings in a little over 2 years. I'd rather see him eased back in than thrust into high leverage position personally.
  5. "And they are leave in Belisle to pitch to Brantley, Ramirez and Encarnacion. Obviously Molitor is thinking.........I don't know what the hell he's thinking."
  6. Dozier is one of my favorite players in recent memory. The intensity and always seem to play with a chip on shoulder. BD and his glorious hair will be missed. I am really hoping the FO makes a move on EE if the sneks allow him to hit free agency, he was quickly becoming one of my favorites.
  7. I'm so shocked at the outrage by so many people here. Everyone knew Dozier was having a rough year. Everyone knew the market for 2B is a fickle one. Seemingly barely anyone wanted him back next year. Why the outrage with the package coming back? I like Dozier as much as the next guy but $18M next year could be so much better well spent next year, especially with the Twins MI depth. Outrage for Belisle not getting traded, really? Did anyone actually think anyone wanted him? Rodney has not been a bad pitcher for the Twins. Him making $4.25M next year is on the cheap. If the Twins aren't contending next year and he pitches like he did this season, it certainly makes him a trade candidate. Unless anyone can predict he falls off the table, what's not to like? Every single player that has been traded outside of Pressly was an up and coming free agent. Escobar and Dozier were the only players with over 1.0 WAR on the season. The guys traded were ages: 35, 32, 31, 31, 29, 29. I understand we wanted younger, better players but let's look at big picture. We have all wanted to see some younger players. 25% of the roster from last week is gone. I will miss BD and EE, but in all likely hood they were both gone at seasons end. Duke and Lynn were examples of what we have been wanting the FO to do for years. Sign guys to 1 year deals and trade them at the deadline. Pressly was a Rule V guy they turned into prospects. Maybe I am seeing too much silver lining here.
  8. Only name leaked so far is Yusniel Diaz
  9. I think the physical confrontation helps that out. You are banging in basketball, throwing bodies on each other, getting out some aggression on each and every play. And fouling is legal. You see hard fouls in basketball all the time. Football is the same way as well as aggression goes. On touchdowns, I don't mind celebrations. The teams are going to their respected sidelines, most of the team is getting replaced and for a lot of guys, and it's a time out on the field. In Baseball, it's one on one, you and the pitcher. One of you will win the battle. Not only like in football do you walk off the field, you jog through their team and back to your dugout. Just a completely different feel IMO. Bat Flips don't bother me, unless you are doing it to show up the pitcher. If you bat flip, watch your shot, stare down the pitcher, toss come comments his way on the to first.....that shouldn't be tolerated. You can celebrate without showing up your opponent. It's why a TD celebration is fine, but sprinting to midfield and celebrating on the other team's logo at midfield is frowned upon. I understand the whole professionalism thing and everyone should be having fun it's a game! But people have to remember a good portion of these guys are 19-28 years old, very competitive and losing isn't fun.
  10. Just have fun with it, it's just a game errr discussion. It is amazing how the little stuff like generates so much debate. Competition brings out so much different adrenaline and feelings in people.
  11. Can we staaaaahp trying to push this notion that his wife having another kid = likely retirement? I have seen it in several threads now. Unless Joe has come out and said anything regarding it, it's just pure speculation and just rumor spreading at this point. If Joe has come out and addressed this and I have missed it, then disregard this.
  12. I don't think that mentality will ever leave the game. Everyone is pushing for more emotion and more fun, but with all the celebration is going to come with backlash. You aren't competing against yourself here. You are competing against other humans. Especially baseball when it's so much a 1 on 1 batter against pitcher type dual. If you are a hitter and feel the need to stare down a pitcher and blow him a kiss because you bested him you should be prepared to get one or two inside on your next plate appearance. The players and the game does police itself. Just like hockey polices itself. You take a cheap shot on our superstar? You better be ready to fight later. The players seemingly understand the consequence of their actions.
  13. If Buck and Sano both break out to their potentials that we have already seen in the past, you can always add as it's happening. I don't see how that would be burning the window at all.....unless they let all their free agents leave and do nothing in free agency, but I think that's a whole 'nother conversation.
  14. To each their own. Not everyone shows excitement the same. I don't need a guy bat flipping and dabbing around the bases on each home run to show me he is having fun. Flashing a smile as they cross home plate is enough for me. But everyone is different.
  15. I guess if people need to dabbing and chest bumping to get them to enjoy the game, then baseball needs that. I don't need that. Do we really need to see Rosario dabbing a leadoff double? Berrios chest bumping with Bobby Wilson after an inning ending K? It's a long season. I have no problem with celebrating after the win and in big game moments, but maybe it's just me. BTW....I don't the on field celebrations after a tackle for loss or picking up a 1st down in football either. I understand it's "entertainment" but just my style I guess.
  16. I have heard people find baseball boring but I have never head this. If you watch a game, these guys have more fun on the field than any other sport out there. Just because players in baseball don't feel the need to celebrate every positive thing in a 162 game season doesn't mean they don't care. Do you see LeBron celebrating every shot he makes? I dare you to watch Dozier's grand slam the other night and tell me it was ho-hum and lacking excitement. I think that was the definition of an awesome moment. People have their likes and dislikes. If you don't like baseball because it's boring, bat flips after home runs aren't going to bring you to the sport. You might looking at highlights a more, but the game itself will still be boring to you. I think soccer goals are great and really enjoying the celebrations, but I think the sport is insanely boring.
  17. You aren't talking about trading the farm for an elite reliever though, and that would never be in the conversation, so I think that's a bad comparison. Other people might have said it, but I never said I wouldn't trade for an elite player. I am just not shelling out the pieces it would take to get Realmuto simply because of the position he plays. The current front office has been in place for less than 2 seasons, why are we already sold and made up our mind on them? (I know a conversation for another time and thread.)
  18. I mean it as a luxury because there are so few of them in baseball. You can count on one hand how many catchers are an above bat and glove. How many other positions can you do that? Having a two-way catcher at the moment is the biggest luxury outside of an ace starter. Why only in quotes? It's an actual average of how many games he has started behind the plate the last 3 years. He catches 75% of the time, which is great, but you still have Bobby Wilson starting and playing 40 games. BTW...he has never been a 5 WAR player. He is on pace for it this season, but his previous career high in WAR is 3.6. I just have a hard time selling the farm for a catcher, no matter how good they are. If you already have one that's fantastic, or paying one in free agency, but considering how much they play, how easily they get banged up and short their shelf life of above average defense is behind the plate......give me a defense minded, below average hitting catcher and trade your top specs for starting pitching. But, just an opinion.
  19. Having a two-way catcher will always be a luxury IMO. When Joe was winning a Gold Gloves at catcher and hitting the hell out of the ball, he not only was a luxury, but a complete rarity of a ballplayer. Something you very rarely see, and it's why he got paid some handsomely. I am a big Realmuto fan, he is a very good player, but he does play catcher. They get dinged up and they don't start every game. JT has averaged 121 games behind the plate over the last 3 seasons. That means for 40 games, or 1/4 of the season you are starting your backup at Catcher. Not to mention, how many catchers stay productive after the age of 30? I don't have stats in front of me, but ones that stay productive are in the minority. I would love to JT on this team, but the cost to acquire him in a trade will always far outweigh his value to the team as he is a luxury.....unless he is the missing piece. If this team was 10 games up in the division and the catcher was far and away the biggest weak link on the team, I could probably rationalize trading for him, but at a price of Lewis/Romero......I just couldn't do it. You can win without a stud catcher.
  20. After the 3 run HR in the 1st Lynn proceeded to pitch: 4.1 IP, 2H, 5K, 3BB, HBP, 1 ER It's not lights out by any means, but I think righting the ship after what happened was a great way to put it personally.
  21. I'd like to hear you try and explain/prove this one.
  22. Can we quit beating this horse to death?
