  1. Josh Spence was designated for assignment. If the Twins had wanted him they would have picked him up in November when he was waived by San Diego. Whatever he did in 2011 he wasn't doing in 2012. Dunsing would be the soft tossing lefty in the pen
  2. Maybe Terry Ryan was fooled. He thought by offering good contracts to players they would sign them. The nabobs of negativity on this board really have no idea what the dynamic is between the free agents and the teams. Blame the GM. What near all star player or better has ever signed with a mid to small market, almost devoid of talent, team as an free agent with no prior connection to the team? That is the hard part of rebuilding.
  3. I think Ryan is uncomfortable paying someone over a million a win.
  4. #21 Detroit Tigers - Forbes.com A 29.1 million lost estimated by Forbes for 2011. Add Fielder's cost for more losses.
  5. Sanchez has won an averae of 8 games a year. That would be nearly 2 million a victory. It will be interesting to watch the Angels as they throw money at hitters.
  6. Blackburn. The Twins studied Parker Hagerman's video he posted and will fix his delivery. He will become the pitcher they signed him to be. Marcum will sign a fair market contract to pitch here. Edwin Jackson will be influenced by Marcum's signing and sign here.
  7. Deduno and Devries probably pitched above their talent level last year. Correia does not make the team worse because he is better than any of the replacements would be if they had to use them regularly. It is not a hard concept.
  8. Somewhere there has to be a metric for pitchers on multiyear contracts that due to injury or quick decline ended up a poor investment. If for the second six years the statistics show he has an identical record to the first 6 you would have to say bust. The contract is still based on potential.
  9. You posted the Twins should have signed a FA pitcher before 2011. Gave you the 2010 records. You never responded who they should have signed who was rated better than Pavano at that time. Given the last thread where it appeared you posted bull, I called you on this piece of bull.. For that I get this post. Have a good day and quit before we are told to take a vacation.
  10. The usual kind of response when someone is pointed out to be lacking knowledge and the ability to think.
  11. Considering what pitchers were available that did not resign with their teams, what else would your comment be? Ignorant or trolling. Take your pick.
  12. Wasn't that 1992 and was the start of the slide to oblivion known as the 90's Twins
  13. Can't be outdone by the Dogers
  14. Marcum would sign if the offer from the Brewers is a bad one. Villaneuva would be a possibility for signing in late January as a cheap no one really wants to pay for him kind of signing. Better odds would be a lottery ticket. That would be a 1 in 30 chance. I wouldn't mind being wrong.
  15. Not in my lifetime. And if the going rate for one is what Kansas City just paid, I hope that continues to be the case. Kansas City was a 90 loss team in 2012. I have the feeling they're going to seriously regret pulling the trigger on competing prematurely. There was just no reason for it. Detroit is stronger this season but should begin to fade quickly as Fielder/Miggy get older, Verlander & Co. log more innings, Hunter falls into obscurity, V-Mart leaves, etc. There was simply no reason to go all-in right now. 2014 looks like a much better window to compete. I think Moore just made a huge mistake. It was 1992. The Twins signed this LH pitcher from PITT to replace Morris (who bolted to TOR). I can't remember his name though. John Smiley?
  16. No worse than your assumption the Twins DID offer the most money, but the pitcher decided a team that's only been bad the last two seasons isn't worth going to. It's all assumptions, you just think yours are better. All I did was say it COULD be a factor, along with the other factors given by the person who made the post I was responding to Read much? My assumptions that even if (Not did, if) the Twins were the high bidder they would not come here. The best anyone has come up with for high profile free agent signings to a last place team was Jeff Francis. Yes, I read plenty Richard Cranium...The point was, your assumptions are just that. Yours aren't better than those you disagree with....I see you just skipped right past that. You also skipped past the fact that big spenders aren't usually at the bottom in the standings, so it makes sense there haven't been many, if any, big time pitchers signing big contracts to last place team. In any event, since you insist on talking to me and others as if we are idiots, every damn time you post, why not just stop replying to me in general. I'm apparently not in your league on baseball knowledge. Chat with people smarter than me. Opinions are a fine thing to have. A basis in reality would be good. Mets, Cubs, Red Sox before the trade, and the Marlins had large payrolls with splashy free agents and sign and trades. I noticed that the higher profile free agents do not sign with small to mid market last place team. Nobody refutes that. You say it is a stupid assumption. If a team is losing and rebuilding, why would you go to a team that has only one or two very good players if there were other options.? The average fan ought to understand not wanting to be around losers or otherwise this board wouldn't have all the complaining.
  17. What free agent pitchers did the Twins go after when they were contenders? Blowing more smoke? Kevin Slowey 13-6, Pavano 17-10, Baker 12-9. Liriano the potential ace, Blackburn under contract. I did not hear a whole lot of complaining about that rotation's end result. Nobody complained going into 2011 they were cheap with the payroll Puck the troll
  18. Marcum would have his choice of poor teams to sign with. He might go for a one year deal to find a better landing for 2014.
  19. I really hope the reason Boggs plays a lot is because Benson, Hicks and Arcia were playing too well to be inRochester.
  20. What AA guy is there to be promoted that is being held back? I believe mike was referring to Hermsen, May, and Meyer. Just a guess Just a guess but Meyer probably was slated to start in AA as he has not yet pitched in that level. If your thought pattern is such that you think the Twins are going to start May at AA so be it. He should be at the AAA level. It is a reminder that there was not much to promote in the upper levels for the Twins. Logan Darnell would appear to have peaked for talent level.
  21. Not a sigle aaaa player. Meet the reserves for the Red Wings.
  22. What AA guy is there to be promoted that is being held back? Also note as well as he has pitched, what high A guy is he holding back when he might only be good enough filler for AA.
  23. What year before the last few did the Twins have money to spend? The list you provided is comparable to their free agent signings for position players. The factor you choose to overlook is the spending capabilities during that time.
  24. 438 They need to match the number for Correia
