  1. You have a very short memory. I in the past have responded to Thyrloss with fact. What would call what you posted in response to Thryloss on Baker? If you want Thyrlos thrown off for posting inaccuracies then clean your own house first.
  2. With what Span could do for the Reds they should give up a ss prospect and a quality pitching prospect. Then again, I overvalue a leadoff hitter with a reasonable contract. Having a higher uzr than the gold glove winner in your league doesn't hurt the value either
  3. Then they would also have to remove you for all the garbage you posted
  4. Vodka Dave must be on suicide watch as the Marlins gave away Josh Johnson for almost nothing. I think it would be a safe assumption in talks with other clubs the Marlins were asked for money. The money saved in this trade seems more valuable to the Marlins than the players received in return. The package received might have been worth only one of the major players involved from a talent standpoint, but the trade was about money. The Marlins will not lose more of it with the trade. Free agents will still sign with Miami if the money is offered. Any of the players they signed should have known the Marlin's history. It will happen again. Lastly, the Marlins had a poor record with these players and the others that were traded at the deadline. I would say they are starting over like an expansion franchise and hoping to get as lucky as the Nationals did in consecutive drafts.
  5. So, it's unrealistic to have the team raise payroll from 112.7M in 2011 to 125+M in 2013. We can drop payroll by 18M like we did last year...which also gave us a payroll lower than what we had in 2010...but it's ridiculous to expect them to spend 125M+? If done smartly, why is this too much to ask them to do? Won't happen, of course, but why is it ridiculous to feel they should If the Twins were adding 50 million in payroll it would push the budget to 150, not 125 million. The number HE quoted was 125+M...THAT is the number I'm talking about. Okay, I will comment on your comment then. The Twins are a business. They are not going to spend money just to spend money. Marquis and Zumaya were risks/reward that went bust. More than likely, there was nothing else out there that Ryan liked for the money. Part two. "If done smartly" Different things posted by the people coordinating this site would lead me to believe that Ryan has a budget and an upper limit if spent wisely.

  7. gee i remember 91-93,nathan was a quality starter, but now a dam fine closer, still here is a young left handed hitting catcher... the only reason he was traded was to make room for joe...so after 18 years terry( im not )lyan , has made what a hand full of trades?and most we have been bent over on ....time for the 3 stooges to go What trade can you post on with some sort of statistical that Ryan has made that was horrible? More blah blah blah no proof of what you say.
  8. What is "proven" in the context of a $40 million payroll and the Metrodome is not proven when we're talking about a $90 million payroll at Target Field. Let's not forget that this is Terry Ryan's first offseason with the new-look Twins. A little patience, please. Ryan was GM in the mid 1990's as well when payrolls were pretty flat across the league and salaries were not exponentioally larger than league minimum. Only once did he sign a non-Twin starter to more than one year. We don't need patience, we've seen proof. He's amongst the most conservative GM's in the league, but hopefully he'll feel motivated to change if he feels the entire front office's job is on the line. The minimum wage is negotiated by the union. The upper limit on a player's salary is whaat someone will pay. Even the union realizes there are some limitations to their portion of the revenue. Why would they take fromthemselves to givee to the rookies in the form of higher pay.
  9. Hey, that was Bill Smith. Guess who is no longer GM. The Hardy saga has been well discussed on this board. Try again to name a trade that RYAN made where he got burned.
  10. There are people on this board speculating as what to do in terms of a trade, not people running a team. For the most part Ryan's trades end up about equall or better return in the talent trading department.
  11. Anything Chicago can do to make their team less competitive is fine by me. AJ will find a new home somewhere.
  12. Like after the first few players are drafted there is a discernible difference between grouped players. It would take greater value to get a b+ pitcher than a b+ MI. The shortstop signed by Toronto was signed for as much money as Marquis got last year. The greater efficiency is had by drafting well. When you have not, you have to be creative. I really do not think Span would be traded for a C+ pitcher. Cole DeVries has made himself a C+ pitcher. The prospects mentioned for Span rated much higher. DeVries is not a C+ pitcher, at best DeVries is replacement level.[/quote ] Sickles definition of a C prospect is one with a question mark or three. At the higher levels that would fit DeVries. 7 of his 16 starts qualified as quality starts.

  14. If you do not have enough B- pitching prospect available to fill your needs then you have to trade for what is scarcer. You can always pick up another MI, for younger prospects. You might not always find a pitching rich team.
  15. What? There are no pay cut restrictions on free agents. I really think that one of the Leeds soccer guys is still mad at the Twins for using their song. A new way to attack a site.
  16. The Twins would have to aquire a MI via trade. If they trade for a pitcher will they have any assets for MI?
  17. your offering up a lot for an undersized prospect with an attitude problem arnt you? but he might fit in with the lilly white twins who knows Try spelling or punctuation for a change. Look at theTwins roster of players in the majors and minors and see there is diversity. You really must be fatbeers long lost separated at birth twin
  18. I think this is also pretty interesting. After all, the Rays aren't known for making dumb trades, are they? Sam Fuld, Archer and Guyer were a good return for Garza
  19. The Yankees claimed Josh Spence. He tosses the ball as hard as Jamie Moyer with the results that make Jeff Gray look good.
  20. johnnydakota's lucid post % is somewhere below Drew Butera's batting average. There are kernels of truth in what he says sometimes. The Bain bit may be correct. "if his mormon cult wont support him why would any real american want a money grubbing 1 %er for a leader of america?" is reasonable. Truly America held their noses and voted the lesser of evils. In something I saw on Salon.com was a comment about Seamus. That is the dog that got a ride on the roof of the car. How Romney treated the dog is exactly how he will treat the public. There is not much out there that could refute that statement. So despite all the limitations of Obama the American public was not wiling to be uncared for.
  21. Vazquez is one of many pitchers that did not do well in New York. They both beat seeing if Livan Hernandez or Ramon Ortiz have anything left. Low risk, medium reward chances. If nothing else Bonderman would fill the AAA roster.
  22. Any potential signees on whole list of milb players that intrigue anyone with some knowledge? The ex Twins and soon to be ex Twins list are there for a reason. I had hopes for Bromberg but I think he was slow to recover from injury.
  23. Ridiculing optimism with this statement "Where do I get the koolaid that makes almost laughably, childishly naive? But if you want to start a T-Wolves thread I'd be really optimistic! (Hint: They don't suck)" makes you what?
  24. Where do I get the koolaid that makes almost laughably, childishly naive? But if you want to start a T-Wolves thread I'd be really optimistic! (Hint: They don't suck) You probably pissed and moaned over every move they made when the Timberwolves did suck. Also 26-40 is a great record?
