Competitive balance picks. What is the success rate of draft picks 30-100? For 10 million dollars and Alex Wood they got Touki and a late draft pick. Touki is repeating class A ball, and not having a good year. It will take a long tome to say it was a good move are not, see Meyer, Alex.
The return was bad, not the idea to trade. Unloading Upton's contract without spending the money is bad. If the Twins offloaded Nolasco and Santana and sat on the money the fans here would be furious
Disagree you do, fix, hardly. The Kimbrel to unload a contract trade negates that as well as Simmons trade. Newcomb was in the pitching starved Angel organization. You don't give up what you are weakest in unless you do not believe his ceiling is as high as predicted. If the ceiling is high, it is yet another bad move by the Angels, who could be on the list. In Detroit number 2 took over for number one. No other changes.
Carl Crawford was never the same after the slight hamstring injury and the UCL injury. Epstien was the one in Boston that was in charge when he was signed. Not all of his moves worked out.
Something happens after the ball leaves his hand. What should be a thing of beauty often isn't. It was said that when Glavin pitched there was only one landing spot disturbed with a definite cleat mark.
Meitkiewicz had three good years before tumbling and thus easier to trade him. Ended up losing the player in rule v draft. Plouffe had 2 good years. I would expect the same kind of return if traded now. They might also get lucky like they did with Brian Buchanan and trade for a futur All Star.
Other than Ramos, how many of these players took multiple years to develop after leaving the Twins? Neshek had a couple down years. It worked out well for him as he got to be an integral part of a championship team. You really have to stretch to have much of a list. Guerra was outrighted to AAA. It might take a little while. There would be a pretty decent AAA team of ex Twins playing in AAA
Hermann and Fryer are doing well, although Fryer in a very limited role. Robinson is being average for the Angels. I don't know that you would say that any of the former Twins pitchers are doing all that well. Maybe by comparison no worse. Worley looks to be Baltimore's mop up pitcher. It is rather weird as Plouffe play poorly, Valencia plays well. He and Span are really the only former Twins doing that well. Then again, I didn't look that hard. For the most part the former Twins bouncing around are the inexpensive players. The scouts do have an eye for major league talent. It will be nicer if it were for someone to develop as a long time starter.
Rolen started playing at 200#. Note as time went on, the gold gloves went down. The weight went up. For the year listed in your story Rolen played under 600 innings of 3b. Not a full time starter there
Bill Smith has never left. I responded to a comment about Bill Smith's scouting ability. All of these players were signed when Smith was GM or involved in Latin America.
Average wise cost per War in 2015 was 5.2 million. At this point for this season Plouffe would not be worth the money. The 2014-2015 Plouffe would be worth it. The question becomes did Plouffe peak or not. If the answer is not in Ryan's mind then the player is gone umles there are no other alternatives in Ryan's viewpoint. The fans here think Sano can play adequate 3B, I am not sure Ryan thinks that.
Not when the thought is that the Twins keep the players regardless because of past production. Stewart resigned once with the Twins. Jones" contract was not a great increase.
June, July and August will determine what the Twins do with Plouffe. If he has a bad season, he is gone. Ryan moved on from Jones, Stewart, Lawton, and Dougie Baseball fairly quickly.
