  1. Cole DeVries 2013? Danny Santana in 2015
  2. Slegers right now is probably pitcher number 6. Your first post you said 20 days prior to spring training. Why would I read the article when I thought you would quote it accurately? My bad
  3. I thought spring training had started so they could have outrighted Slegers if they wanted to. I might have been imagining things.
  4. Lynn would be a far better option than anyone else they have. If they can figure out why LH hits him hard and correct that, he is a top of the rotation starter. Otherwise he would be addition enough to get you to the wild card game again.
  5. Just pointing out some of the metrics that would hint at this not being a horrible signing. In front of the iron gloved defense of Detroit I would think that could have an effect on a pitcher's psyche. Small sample size, but Verlander pitched much better in Houston than he did in Detroit.
  6. Mejia insurance, Gibson insurance, Slegers insurance, last years AA rotation insurance. Anybody but Berrios insurance
  7. Analytics are those things people use to say a player is better than the numbers. See the Chris Archer threads. Easy analytics to see. that say Sanchez is better than his numbers. SIERRA says he is league average. BABIP says he is one unlucky pitcher, xfip- thinks he is a league average pitcher. That is 2 ERA predictors and a long held belief. The ERA predictors point to a pitcher that would be better than Gibson or Mejia.
  8. If you have a crappy bullpen for every 180 innings your starter pitches every 2 runs they let in ups the ERA by .1. The other direction, if your catcher with pitch framing gets you 5 extra strikeouts, saves you from just one BB and one fat pitch belted out for a HR a year your fip goes down .15. The most likely cause of fip over performing ERA on a consistent basis would be some pitchers do not pitch as well with runners on base. That shows up in bwar. bwar has not liked Archer the last 2 years. By GSv2 over the last two years Archers outcomes are that of an above average pitcher, not a great one.
  9. Disagree if you want, but I did not say he was not a quality pitcher. If you believe fip as the end all, be all you will over value Archer. There are other measures that do not like Archer.
  10. How can I underestimate what it takes to trade for him when I propose nothing? Unless Tampa is blown away by an offer, Archer is not going to be traded because he is cheap, dependable and overvalued. Nobody but fans of fip are going is going to value him that high.
  11. The return teams got for Miggy, Anibal Sanchez, Price, Cueto? The Royals got a great return for Greinke. Archer does not have near the track record at this point.
  12. The end result is you have Jordan Zimmerman rather than Sherrzer. If the player does not take the opt out it means they have busted. Hence a team is worse off with a player with an opt out. You have 2 years of a great player or a bust. A situation like Cueto could also arise. One good year and then a very questionable one
  13. I can't see where it would be much of a positive if he did not opt out for under performing the contract.
  14. Opening day is March 29. 3-4 months would mean their season was over in June or July, not October.
  15. If you are watching the cable company's product by streaming you are likely still paying for it. If there is not streaming available, the cable company wins
  16. https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe The league owns the internet rights.
  17. Longoria, Price an Shields just packed them in when they played together in Tampa. Winning in Detroit brought out more fans than not winning and still having Miggy, Verlander or Upton somewhere in the stadium
  18. Other than the signed AAA, AA depth players not much in the system was rewarded by a longer look in spring training.
  19. Out of zone pitches are not the same as bad ball pitches. The context that gives any of this meaning is the woba of o zone contact.
  20. His floor is what he is. Under 5 IP, an ERA closer to 5 than 4. A hitable fastball and not the best off speed pitches means the Twins really do need 2 starters. It is also why there has been so little ink. His prospect peak has been reached as a starter.
  21. While it all sounds good the owners still have the power. They are not going to dive away controlled years.. There is nothing the players have to negotiate to give up to get it.
  22. You could probably strike out Steve, but not many others
  23. Walker Buehler. He is not a free agent, but you take him for taking on Matt Kemp's contract for Hughes' contract. This allows the Dodgers to sign Darvish and stay under the luxury tax. If they don't want Hughes, I would give them Stewart
  24. Extending the relief pitcher is only going to extend the inning for the offense in the extra AB. they get Quality of relief pitching goes down without situational substitutions. The quality of relief pitching goes down when you think of pitching them multiple innings. Think Perkins as a starter vs a reliever. In terms of a television game, ratings seem to fluctuate with w/l record. The concern for the team and networks is the number watching. There is a chance that for a long time baseball has been watched in intervals, not complete games. There wouldn't be the pressure to shorten a game if that is the viewing pattern
  25. The savvy is debatable. 3 years of an Ace, 4 years of a cost controlled almost Ace, a closer, a set up man, years of an above average starting CF and a rental of a 3b and you have Moncada, Jimenez, Kopech and question marks.
