  1. Adama, Sheffield and Acevado for the pool money. Maybe make them throw in Guzman.
  2. They gave up a defensive CF blocked by an All Star, a potentially good SS, a mediocre 2b and a lotery ticket. Maybe in a few years it will look bad, depends on how long Kimbrell plays for the Sox and if they get a ring.
  3. To summarize in one or two badly constructed sentences. Bautista is old and declining. Frazier has seen better days as a Red. Carlos Santana plays the same position as Joe Mauer and this team needs 1/3 of the payroll paid to what are currently middle of the pack 1B.
  4. Other than Bumgarner, the last two pitchers to pitch over 20 innings in a WS were? Santana could hold up with the two 4-5 inning starts and couple relief innings.
  5. The hall of fame is subjective also. Koufax had 7 years of being dominate. Johan Santana had a similar run. The biggest difference is WS. Subjective, but it isn't Santana's fault he never had a chance to be a WS MVP. He isn't going in like Koufax did. Early Wynn is in the HOF because he pitched until he almost had a foot in the grave and got to 300 wins.
  6. Subjective data such as All Star, and end of season awards should not become objective statistical data.
  7. Molitor won or placed high in awards as a player. A fine, storied organization like the BBWAA may have a lot of members still there from Molitor's playing days. Some here may be too young to remember, or too old to, but I seem to remember Molitor being very accessible to the press. Not that the fine people inside the velvet rope would have anything but high journalistic standards when voting.
  8. With a new minor league pitching coordinator, new ideas from upper management, and another new coach to work with this year the sky is the limit. No longer with he be held down by the archaic thinking of the past regimes. With an individualized plan and superior intellect around him, the sky is the limit for his pitching. The ball can't go any further when the breaking ball doesn't break.
  9. I hope it is a fail for the Twins because Turley has worked a long time to get to the cusp of being a mlb pitcher.
  10. Are Kepler and Rosario better than them? I said excess. Keep in mind that It took Frazier and a top 100 pitching prospect still in A+ ball and 2 95-100 mph relievers to get Miller.
  11. Yup, there were a lot of good outfielders the Twins could have had. Package the excess outfielders together in a trade and you would have a mediocre starter to complain about.
  12. Your teams all have a better 1b prospect than Diaz and no DH. The thought on his ceiling is correct. In the AL he could get time as a DH
  13. When the pitch well, yes. If they pitch like Verlander did in 06 or Darvish in this WS, no. You need good pitchers, you also need them to pitch well when it counts.
  14. The current valuation of the Twins is around a billion. Valuations of the Pohlad fortune is at around 4 billion. The Twins are hardly chump change in their pocket. It can be a fun thing, but being fun doesn't change the position in the Pohlad portfolio
  15. Last Twin prospect of note traded that was blocked was Chris Hermann? My gosh, Kurt Suzuki was blocking Chris Herrmann. It might have been the best blocking of the plate he ever did in his career as a Twin.
  16. Business wise, what is the value of the franchise when they bought it versus now? Business wise it is one of the best returns they ever have. The set up does not lose money and just sits there and appreciates
  17. Morton has always been a very good pitcher when healthy. The Astros took a medium level risk and won.
  18. A minor league player who can throw 95. If only there was some team with an oft injured arbitration eligible player that they wanted to dump. The Twins could have made a deal
  19. You are looking a players just a bit better than rule v draftees. There will be the occasional player that a team misses on, or that develops far later. So far nobody has come up with the minor league player the team whiffed on.
  20. His 5 great games in August and September were 2 against KC while they were still in the race and one against Toronto, while they were still in the race. Maybe KC will give a decent prospect up in trade for Gibson.
  21. There were a few 18-20 year olds in the rookie ball leagues throwing 92-93. There was something somewhere about Falvey and training methods that could add a couple mph to their pitches. That could make for some interesting prospects in a couple of years.
  22. Gibson and Mejia throw too many 4 inning games to be considered locks to make the rotation. I would not be surprised if one of them is dealt
  23. Hideki Kuriyama. Bonus points if you know why without looking it up.
  24. The bad part about this discussion is that given there are not any OMG prospects on the list there are not 5-10 names son the list. As the new regime brings in new ideas we shall see if the prospects start improving.
  25. Brian Dozier hit 16 HR for his minor league career. Nick Gordon is still younger than Brian Dozier was before he started playing professional baseball. Altuve did not show much for power until he was 25. Odor was 22 when he started hitting for power. Schoop and Jose Ramirez 24, Gordon just turned 22. Not saying Gordon is similar to any of them, just HR power comes later for middle infielders.
