  1. Did not miss it at all. It was not central to the point I was making. Napoli signing with Texas was going to the team he knew. At that point he had over 70 million in career earnings. He was likely not going to be swayed by a couple of million.
  2. Santana, Berrios, Gibson Mejia, May, Hughes, Slegers, Jorge, Gonsalves, Romero, Little and Stewart or Ens make 12. The first 4 the team should have a pretty good idea of what they can do, good or bad. 2 are medical mysteries, Slegers is your AAAA emergency pitcher, The next 4 is the development squad that the OP would appear to be targeting as see what you have. Stewart or Ens makes it a Baker"s dozen. If you believe that Santana will age decline, Gibson will revert to bad Kyle and Mejia is a fringe starter, the poster has a point to wait and see if you are in contention. Given the postings about Santana and Gibson, the wait and see approach is as good as any. The position is more tenable considering the negativity towards any FA not named Darvish
  3. Last year's class of espn's top 20 free agents Castro signed with the Twins, Ramos with the Rays. 2014Lowrie and Rasmus with the Asros, 2013 was Nolasco and Santana with the Twins, 2012 was Jackson with the Cubs In 5 years previous to this one 7 of the top 100 free agents signed with teams that had 90+ losses. 4 of them were with the Twins. I do not think that 7 would be considered lots. How well those seven signings worked out would be open to debate.
  4. This is a one year deal for very little money. It is not a major deal. That it is one of the few moves so far this off season is no big deal unless you hobby is making mountains out of molehills. Nobody has signed front line starters yet other than Ohtani. Other than the Miami sell offs, Longoria and Kinsler have been the only major trades. Santana, Cozart and relief pitchers are what have been signed. The very few Miami fans that exist should be the only ones upset at this point. Colorado fans can be happy they have a bullpen. Yankee fans can be happy with their gift. Everybody else is still waiting.
  5. Does anyone go into a sport anymore by investing a billion and expect to lose money? There is but one scenario that that another ownership group could come in and make like the Yankees or Dodgers. That would be there is a wealthier family than the Pohlads not caring about how much money they lose are baseball fans and ego maniacal about "their" team being a champion. They would also have to be oblivious to the lack of success the Tigers have had under 25 years of Illich and 11 years of non cost containment.
  6. This move would appear to be so minor in the eyes of the management that it was not leaked to any of the usual people. A producer of a morning talk show that occasionally does baseball gets the "scoop". Duke at worst is competition for Boshers, at best insurance that Taylor Rogers does not get run into the ground. Any Twins fan who would think of this as a "signature move" has already forgotten about Rodney.
  7. Compare and contrast that with "I remember things differently" but resigning anyway.
  8. bullet holes vs he said she said. The Chapman case is very different than this one.
  9. I make an assumption that page hits are kind of important to the survival of an internet site. One time you and Dave (from New York) each started a thread on the same day. I do not remember what your piece was about. IMHO it was well written. It had well defined concepts. It got about 5 comments before falling to never never land. One of those was my comment thanking you for writing such a nice piece and that it was unfortunate that a positive spin piece was not well received in terms of the number of comments. I do not remember Dave's topic exactly, either. What I remember was, IMHO Dave threw a fetid dung ball out. 3-4 lines at most. That thread died out after more or less 10 pages of comments. I am not sure but I think Dave brought more traffic out. You might not even had as many lurkers for your thread because people seem to love train wrecks and car crashes. Audience analysis. on what they want. When the Twins called up Breslow if there were 2 threads, one detailing Breslow's efforts to reconstruct himself as a pitcher and one saying it will never work, which one would be better received?
  10. When you do not like the tone of a site's community many move on. You say meta, others have said haughty. It is what it is. See the threads that draws the views and responses and the tone of the responses
  11. With the pay for an article it becomes a labor of love, not something that could be income for the hours spent. On the desktop version, after a blog falls off the right hand side of the main page it is out of sight and mind. It loses the ability to generate any traction or ongoing discussions. I quit looking at them for the most part.
  12. The negativity becomes just whining and complaining to some after a while. Critical thinking is not just looking for negativity. The why portion is overlooked.
  13. Escobar and Castro can step up and be the Veteran leaders. 4 of the 12 should be enough. Grossman, Polanco, Sano Buxton and Rosario have all been around long enough to have a clue. If not, there should be some trades
  14. Did Thyrlos get his Christmas wish and the Twins will cut Boshers?
  15. They would be able to designate anyone not named Thorpe, Little, or Gonsalves. There are more than enough candidates if they sign other players
  16. To fill out the bullpen there wille be Boshers, Pressly. Then there is what a team usually signs. That is the aging veteran they sign for a couple of million, the aging vets they sign to minor league contracts, the never were that have promise never achieved that they try
  17. Archer is still only 6-7 million a year. Kyle Gibson money. Tampa took Span who makes slightly less than Longoria. When Tampa trades it will be to significantly improve the team, not a salary dump like Miami.
  18. Duffey, Chagois, Curtis, Busenitz, Hildenberger Moya. 6 arms right there to take a step up. Jake Reed, Melotakis, Tyler Jay and Nick Anderson all might have a shot for mid season. In the meantime a top setup/closer to go with Rogers and Rodney would be advisable.
  19. The prospect rankings last year did not have much in the way of Twins listed. None that would have been near major league ready. There was not much to trade to procure high level talent. One would be impressed if they could have procured talent from that. Scrap heap free agents that turn golden are few and far between. They got one in Castro. That is better than most teams did.
  20. As a season plays out it would become evident what player could have had that spot. In Graham's case they had to go out and later trade for other relievers. Thompson and Tonkin were also failures to develop in 2015. Tonkin in 17 as well as Breslow and many others showed the hole was bigger than Haley
  21. When you picked a contract as an example to sign somebody couldn't you have found someone who did well after signing the contract?
  22. This a slary dumps swap. Atlanta gets the services of a utility infielder for swapping bad contracts. The Dodgers by spreading the bad contract over two years get away from the Luxury tax threshold so they can add players. Even a team with a lot of money hates the high luxury tax.
  23. If Kemp could hit as he historically had a few years ago there would be a better price tag for his services for the owning team. As it is right now by WOBA he is an expensive version of Robbie Grossman.. Now if they wanted to trade Kemp and a couple of very good prospects for Hughes there could be a little more traction to this idea.. If only there was a Duensing to throw in with Hughes. Will Gibson do?
  24. Hawkins, Everyday Eddie, Nathan. Perkins Kintzler Terry Ryan could find pretty good closers. It can't be too hard of job if Ryan can do it. Maybe they should have kept Ryan as special chief senior gm in charge of relief. What in the Burton Jepson debacles do you mean that no one can be perfect?
  25. The Twins could likely trade almost any unranked low level prospect for Kinley in the spring to be able to send him down.
