The Twins are not in the top 15 for revenue hence it would be a first round pick. In trades for position players the last couple of years I would think any high ceiling player in return would have a low probability of reaching it. I would rather they pass on trading than getting future utility player or future middle relief help. On the other hand, if you don't ask you can not fleece. They still should pursue a trade at any time given the chance to fleece.
Charlie Morton is not an ACE. If he did not pitch well in game 7 the Astros might have lost the series despite having Verlander and Keuchel. If Springer did not have the series he did, the Astos might have lost. Winning throughout the playoffs is having enough people step forward and perform.
The timetable was to have him throwing off the mound starting about now. Each individual has a timetable that s different but the best guess for Burdi was around All Star break to be ready for mlb games. The article talked about how mechanics caused the injury and Burdi changing his delivery. The half million dollar question is did his mechanics cause the pitches to be what they were and what kind of pitcher will he be with changed mechanics.
Vargas has had plenty of time to learn how to field. If he couldn't make it here when the team was going bad it would be unlikely he is going to do so elsewhere. Position flexibilty is the new oeder. Grossman will also get the same if he does not field better.
Deolis had a good year as the low leverage guy. They moved on from him. Moved on from Featherstone. Third time is the charm? How about what is making the same mistake over and over again?
12 rp on the 40 man. looks like 8 were active in mlb in 2017 and the Angels had a pretty good pen last year. There has been some mentioning that the Angels would go with a 6 man rotation. That would mean a shorter bullpen. The back end of the bullpen would need to be a player with options to shuttle when the bullpen wears out
In the article Bard stated that he is throwing his fastball belt high. When people post what major league hitters hit as a graphic the belt high pitches tend to get the highest numbers. If that is where Bard's pitches go then that is the answer to the riddle of why the Twins did not protect him despite the numbers.
Odorizzi has averaged 2 bwar for the last 3 years and was called a replacement level player. At that standard of WAR, how is Gomez worth a near major league ready player?
They do have better player than Odorizzi. Odorizzi still gave them their best return. 4 of the best 5 poition players Tampa had over the last two years are gone with not much back. Calling them OK is selling them short for what they did for the team.
Spending 4 million in hopes of getting a prospect is an expensive prospect. That is the reason a frugal team like Tampa, who dumped far better plays for little return, shouldn't be signing these kinds of players.
With the trades this winter that Tampa has made it is tough to find anything much that says great prospect. Gomez and Span will provide more of the same. Placios might be the best prospect they got back thus far.
In the last 15 years the only drafted player the Twins ever let go with little or no major league experience to have much of a career was Evan Meek. The best of luck to these guys, but somehow the odds seem pretty long. Bard could r be the next Bud Norris More of a chance he could be back in Rochester
What you hope to lose are the 37 games pitched by pitchers with an ERA over 5.4. Lynn has been Pushing Mejia back to spot starter/ injury fill in pitcher would go a long way in cleaning up that mess.
One would hope that it would take only a couple games to get up to speed. Grossman's comment could lead one to believe that he actually worked out over the winter.
When not just judge the pitcher on the last game of the season if you are only going to look at one season of work. Better yet, just only consider the last pitch they threw. . When their bodies of work say something else you can ignore it. Makes your case better if you do. Projections have Lynn and Odorizzi to be 1.5 fwar pitchers. So which one is the replacement level pitcher? A projected 11 WAR staff would get you in the middle of the pack.
If every phenom in every organization pitches to their ceiling , all the old vets on other teams do not decline, Twins pitchers get injured an/or decline, then yes this is a bottom 10 rotation. .
