  1. Struck out a lot of guys in college. Might not have struck out with the women as he stayed for 4 years. Command and control guy. Can't find mentions of what his pitches are like.
  2. Minor league hockey has two levels. Less players to pay. Hockey contracts are also capped at 10% for signing bonus for ecl. Now if the AHL would be considered AAA and AHL AA/A+ the pay grades for lower minor leagues would follow similar step downs for levels as would the bonuses. I would think overall this would be a more money for the major league clubs. Up front costs become minimal rather than up to 400 million available for clubs to spend.
  3. Bob Hemelin could have had a great career, but did not. Could be is far far different than is. Swing and miss 9.8%, is nice an ops for the other team was .822 was .750 overall. He is better than Slegers but you never know, Slegers could develop into a number 3
  4. 40 DSL teams makes up more than a significant portion of that number.
  5. Where do you get the 50% number from? At the major league level it is under 30%
  6. Laws of unintended consequences. If you make it a law to pay the players minimum wage the money would come from somewhere. It would depend on the team. One less rookie league team perhaps. Less players carried on the remaining rookie league teams. Nothing says they have to carry the limit. Likely less indy ball teams. It would not effect the higher profit teams as much as the lower teams. Perhaps a rise in leagues like the Northwoods as players might want to give it a couple more shots to get noticed. Money paid out in the draft, international free agents is collectively bargained. As the last agreement was hard enough to reach, I would not see them reopen it early. For the most part if your signing bonus was not enough for the draftee to live on for 4 years they might want to think about going to college or finish their degree and use it.
  7. The pitching gurus have not yet brought stability to Pressly. There are likely 1.6 million reasons he will be given every chance in the first half of the season. From there it would depend on how the others have developed. I don't think Hildenberger and Busenitz have had the best of springs. I think Curtiss has been pitching at the end of the games so I don't think he is in the initial choices either.
  8. It would be likely that he asked for injections. People do not taking oral iron as it turns your poo into sticky black stuff.
  9. The excuse never works
  10. Perceptions and realities. What is truth, what is what you want to believe. It could be argued that Placios is a higher ceiling SS prospect and that was a lot to give up for Odorizzi. Ynoa could also have been considered a high price to pay for a rental player. that leaves one trade for your theory Claiming a fringe mlb player like Enns as a prize worth paying for is a stretch. . All of the money must have been for Littell. One deal does not make for a trend. It could also ne argued the Twins were snokered as the Yankees would have lost maybe both in the rule v draft.
  11. Yup Arrietta had a bad season for him. That may have cost him a lot of money. He still got a great contract based on the prior years. Swing and miss numbers are nice. Contact was the problem. An .850 ops against is not very good considering he had a slightly below average hr/9. League average ops was around .750 Some pitchers with command develop late. The issue is quality of pitches besides a slider.
  12. Matt Kemp says hello. If WAR is based on contracts given there is a huge fault with the over 200 million that players got paid for little of nothing in 2017.
  13. Strange comp. Mejia is no Kershaw. Kershaw spent only one full year in the minors and pitched on average more than 6 inning per game since he was 22. So Mejia can be Kershaw. Love the optimism
  14. Peak value is in the eye of the beholder. What you deem as peak is far different than others. He traded 2 CF. He did not trade an outfielder with an injury history, poor defense and 2 years left on a contract. Hmmm. No one was surprised when the last year played out how it did. He did not trade Plouffe who had one year of what you would call production. He got peak value for Doumit. It took another trade but he got peak value for Drew Butera. In his rebuilding phase he really only had 2 significan veterans, Span and Mauer. Mauer had a no trade clause.
  15. They as likely upped whatever they were offering Gibson just to get to the arbitration number, just as Gibson's agent lowered the asking price for arbitration. If Gibson was a free agent he might not see that kind of money.
  16. One year of exactly 6 My bad, Mejia has been pitching for how long?
  17. Odorizzi could be Rick Reed
  18. Not ever has he averaged 6 innings a game. That is not a number 3. Swinging strike number is average. WHIP is way above average. They see it and don't swing at it and get a walk or the eventually see one and get a hit. As he will turn 25 there would be a lot of development in a short period of time,
  19. Rodney at 4 million when closers are getting 8 or more may not be scrap heap, but close enough. Same for Duke, Same for Aybar Pineda has a ton of potential that has not been seen for a few years before his last injury. Sanchez has a non guaranteed contract but a major league roster spot and will get a good chunk of change for being cut. . Lynn and Morrison are the value deals that Ryan would do. That leaves Reed.
  20. True or not, has Gardenhire ever not said anything nice about veteran players
  21. Nolasco has not pitched yet, Liriano has had 2 outings and 5 innings. At this point in spring training I don't think that much pitching puts them front and center for plans
  22. 4 million for a salary is not so much then why do they fight tooth and nail over 250k in arbitration? 4 million for a prospect? See bonus monies paid to prospects. You can remember the few success stories and forget all of the failures of these players. You can remember the few prospects that pan out and forget about all the failures. Last years outfielders that were traded were Cbrbera and Martinez. Cabrera brought nothing back. Hoping against hope that a GM would think that these players could turn into a Martinez is foolish.
  23. Twins were a revenue receiving team and thus would give up their third highest pick. Worst case scenario is a late second rounder, probably a third rounder depending on competitive balance picks. For every good player selected then, there will be far more busts or middle of rotation pitchers.
  24. The value the players thought they had was just not there. Player flaws abound in an analytic age Welcome to the new free agency
