  1. The Indians traded Drew Pomeranz for Ubaldo. They traded Chris Archer for Mark DeRosa. In the end bad trades indeed. When they traded Choo, they won that one.
  2. Trade talk on DeGrom Gordon, Gonsalves, Rooker and a lower prospect enough? Get em while they are hot or drive up the price the other team pays For ease of rankings, There are only about 5 prospects in the top 25 I wouldn't trade.
  3. Nobody claimed Rooker started his first season in AA His first full season started id AA. Short season is not full season. Rooker joined the team after the start of the season. Semantics The more the exceptions there is no rule. If they have talent, they advance more often than not. If the Twins missed out on many players let go to soon you would have a point for short season A.
  4. This is Rooker's first full season in pro ball, he started it in AA. Twin's way with college starting pitchers. Slegers moved up 2 levels a year, Gibson moved up quickly. Logan Darnell moved up quickly. Now if you were to say the Twins have picked many poor college pitchers, that would be fair. If you look and saw how many of their college pitchers blew out arms, that would be a fair observation. That they do not promote pitchers in season is a fallacy. Short season A leagues are primarily filed with players not good enough for full season A. There may be a few players right out of college, but I doubt if there would be much gain in success of the development of the players.
  5. In 2006 Punto played all over the field rather than just 1b and 3b. They had similar woba, Punto produced 3.6 fwar to Shea's -.1. I would not have disagreewd with moving Punto after that season if there was another team that thought he could ever reproduce that.
  6. Randy Rosario made it to the Cubs.
  7. Ooops, I read it wrong. There were quite a few left hand rental bats available for less than Slowey.
  8. Darvish as a bust is irrelevant as he was a free agent at the end of the season. That would have nothing to do with a deadline trade. The previous general manager is now a scout for the Phillies. Get over what he did or did not do. I
  9. he was looking for a RH bat, Abreu was left
  10. I think the goalpost shifted. Just as no one knows if Verlander would have accepted a trade here, no one knows what trades were discussed by the Twins management. There are the trades that happened, that is known, but not the ones that were discussed. As about every team in the AL was still in theoretical contention the pool of player like a verlamder were pretty small. Darvish could have had the same thread along with many of the same arguments. When there is not a lot to trade for out there, the coulda, shoulda conversation gets a little different.
  11. At the start of 2006 Slowey was not even ranked as a good prospect by the services that rank prospects. Slowey would have gotten the team something like Shea Hillenbrand
  12. Choices, consequences. The entertainment industry is loaded with people working for little of nothing, hoping to make it big.
  13. At some point with draft order money does become an issue, Spending more to entice a player or finding someone you can spend less on but still like. I don't think as you get to the later rounds of the draft the difference between a round or two for the players makes that much difference. It becomes what do you see in the player that you can make into a good player.
  14. Websites have him listed as a senior at Clemson. The chooice would be Twins or indie ball
  15. Martinez is proof that he wouldn't sign for less for a team that wins. Arizona made it to the division series last year and is leading their division at this point.
  16. Martinez can opt out of his contract at any off season he chooses. As a top 5 batter, and a Twin, short of participating in a WS parade I considered that a likely happening. If it did not happen, he merely replaces the Joe Mauer contract as an object of scorn
  17. If Baltimore accepts the kind of return Detroit got for Martinez it would be a doable trade. If they expect the kind of package the Yankees got for Chapman they will likely not get a deal done.
  18. Trying Aybar, Sanchez, Pineda Lynn and Morrison cost mote this year than signing Martinez to an offer better than Boston's . It would have been money better spent this year.
  19. If the players are lucky their season was still going on in high school and college playoffs. The money at the top has an effect on what they can do with the rest of the money.
  20. If money is one of the factors then I am correct as the odds set by Vegas are then not an accurate reflection of the team
  21. If you wish to believe that a company that is in the business of making money would align numbers so they lose money so be it. While the order may be the same that proves nothing, the Vegas odds numbers matching fangraphs would prove your point. You provide no such information. When you look at the difference between the betting line and the stats oriented lines those with the greatest chance of winning by statistical models will likely be more heavily favored by Vegas.
  22. They are betting odds not outcome odds. The line is set by anticipated money bet for each team.
  23. Not at all. The football analogies are absurd.
  24. 6 years of service time. 172 days of roster time. Gordon would have to spend this year and next April in the minors to get to control him through age 30. Any time spent up this year would prolong another time being optioned to keep control through 30. I do not know if he is not called up that the brass likes him and wants to keep control or they do not think enough of him to bring him up. He might be a better trade chip not exposed to MLB pitching
  25. 2016 from June 11 to July 31 Dozier hit 12 hr an an OPS near 1.0 That kind of tear would get his OPS well over 800. If you subscribe to the theory he did it before, he can do it again. Just to prove how streaky he is, over the same period in 2017 his OPS was .779.
