  1. My only concern is with the 1.30 WHIP Berrios had going into today. That is unlikely to get better in MLB and can lead to a lot of runs. Milone's current WHIP is 1.37. Meyer's WHIP is 0.865. I don't believe a move will be made before Milone gets another start. We'll see how the numbers change. Remember, if Meyer has finally found himself that would really be special. He has more raw talent than anyone we've had since Johan Santana. (IMHO)
  2. Berrios is pitching well. Duffy is pitching well. Meyer is going great guns right now. 0.865 WHIP, 1.04 ERA, 9.9 SO/9 and only 2 walks in 17 innings. Got some guys who are feasting on AAA batters. I am anxious to see what the near future brings. As for Mastro, he ripped up ST but is currently sitting at .214/.365/.238 (.603), so, um, no. And I rather hate the idea of trading Arcia for bullpen help. We have many a reliever coming up. I don't think we are going to make a World Series run this year, but if we keep pieces that are developing we may be there in a year or two.
  3. Well.... Milone would be the obvious choice at this point, but he has only thrown 15 innings. He got a spot in the starting roation, now we have to give him a little more time, a little more rope. If he hangs himself, well that's how it works in MLB. Always has, always will. I, too, am anxious to see Berrios. I suspect we won't have to wait much longer.
  4. When, if ever, do you predict the Twins will reach .500 this season? April 17th, 2017.
  5. Mudcat Grant was a fun guy to watch. Great name, too. James Timothy Grant played for 14 years, from 1958 to 1971. Far and away his best season was with the 1965 World Series bound Minnesota Twins, as he went 21-7. Several times he had an ERA better than the 3.30 he posted in 1965, though. FWIW, he went 2-1 with an ERA of 2.74 in the 1965 World Series.
  6. A bigger role for Pressly is actually good news for this bullpen. Good luck to Glen. And to Taylor.
  7. There are chickens apleanty. Now, can we put them to use? And hey, you know Kepler wanted to hit a home run today. A game winning home run that would have made the papers in Germany! Instead he took his at bat like a pro and walked. Excellent at bat.
  8. Polanco is the likely replacement if Nunez goes on the DL. His career OPS in MLB is only .950, so don't get too attached to him.
  9. Have his folks ever seen him play in an MLB game? Maybe they're flying in from Germany, in which case we could see Max in the lineup on Monday or Tuesday. Pretty common for US players to have it go that way.
  10. I agree that we, as fans, tend to think rather highly of our prospects. However, the guy truly was a serious force in AA last year. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  11. I was not alone in calling for a change in the hitting coach (Vavra). I once posted a list of hitters who had come to the Twins and hit worse and a list of hitters who left the Twins and hit better. I remember well that the list seemed pretty long.
  12. To be fair, the Twins traded Bruno for an *All-Star* second baseman, hoping to fill a need. It went poorly.
  13. Zoilo Versailes at short. I would put Harmon at 3rd base and put Torii in the outfield. Hrbek over Dougie. Johan Santana over Jim Kaat, even though I loved Kitty Kaat. And Sandy Valdespino on the bench just because his name sounded so cool to me when I was a youngster.
  14. I like perkins. I like Fien. However, like the rest of us, they are getting older. The only thing that looks positive about the bullpen is the return of Ryan Pressly. It does appear that we have some help coming up through the ranks. Perhaps because of this it would have been foolish to sign Bastardo (or any of a number of other options) to a 3 year contract. For now, though, the BP is definitely our Achilles heel.
  15. The area Eddie has to fix is OBP. I know everybody says this, but if he doesn't fix this part of his game he is really not a MLB level player. Might be a little early to anoint him a full time job. He has had an OBP <.300 the last 2 years. He had a fine ST, but he only walked 2 times in 62 PA. Now I know you go to ST to hit, but Eddie has to take a walk when it's offered. A guy can hit .267 and be a superstar (see Killebrew,Harmon). Or he can be a replacement level player. Gotta get on base.
  16. And a happy April 1st to you, too!
  17. I wouldn't necessarily applaud them, but I'd fake it.
  18. When I heard that Park had won the equivilent of a 'Gold Glove' in Korea I suspected he won his Gold Gloves like Jeter won his, he was just a popular player (only one of those years was Jeter a top 10 SS). However, it sounds as if the guy can really play well. I am anxious to see him there from time to time. By the end of the season he may be splitting time with Mauer fairly evenly.
  19. You beat the Yankees and you gain a half game on KC, which may evaporate when they play. You beat the Royals and you gain a full game on KC. It does seem odd that over two thirds of the division games are in the second half. Maybe our team will be firing on all cylinders by then. Yeah, let's have it go that way.
  20. Fun article Matt. Gladden was absulutely a catalyst for the team that year. Not saying for sure that they wouldn't have done it without him, but he made an impact. I always appreciated the way he played the game.
  21. He's playing it pretty safe. I mean, who doesn't love Earth, Wind and Fire?
  22. Gotta say I'm always impressed when a player feels they cannot help the team anymore and has the integrity to walk away from millions of dollars. Props
  23. With so little in the high minors for SS I don't see why we don't extend Escobar. I believe that Polanco will replace Dozier at some point rather than being the new SS. How can people not think extending EE is a great idea? He was one of the very best SS in MLB last year and he STILL doesn't get much respect aroung here.
