  1. About 3 or 4 of those players listed above are in the majors or soon will be in the majors. That will give more top 10 room to for some of the players knocking on the door(Pinto for 1).
  2. Most clubs now, even the Yankees are very reluctant to give up their higher level, close to major league ready prospects. That is why Terry Ryan and his scouts have done well at identifying undervalued prospects at the A level and getting them to the Twins. Perkins or Mauer if he would waive his no trade would have to bring a huge ransom back to the Twins to make a deal. In Perkins case he could be making a difference between making the playoffs and going home at the end of the regular season. I would expect a prospect in the clubs top 10, probably between 6 and 8 and a couple of lower 15 - 30 prospects at least(I may be high). Mauer would need even more. Most clubs would not be willing to pay the price. That is why you see the majority of the deals for lower end prospects are salary dumps more than baseball trades. That is what the majority of the contenders want and why most of the deals go down in the last week of July.
  3. I agree, take a flyer on both of them in the offseason. Do not need them now. Twins should have plenty of money to spend as much of the money comes off the books at the end of the year.
  4. Tonkin will get a chance, What he makes of it will determine if the Twins think they could part with a reliever. Burton could be one, or Duensing could be another. Will have to see what TR has in the works. Many of the contenders need bullpen help, so the Twins have a chance to move some pitchers. Expect Tonkin will be back to Rochester, but could be not for long if he does well. This is audition time.
  5. TR has said that most of the blame is his for the players he has provided Gardy with. However another season with less than 70 wins could be the end, just to provide a new voice. There are a couple of clubs that could well be looking for new managers at the end of the year(Toronto, LAD). Both have a much bigger talent base than the Twins and one of those might give Gardy a shot if the Twins let him go. I do not see him walking away.
  6. I think part of the discussion is that the Twins will have at least another $20 million in free salary after this season is over, if not more. Most of the new core will be in their second year, so the raise in payroll will not be huge. That added to the $25 million in new TV revenue should equal some ability to pay for free agents. Problem is that all clubs have the extra $25 million and the free agent market may not be that strong after resignings at the end of the year and qualifying offers to the major free agents. Twins major concern in this offseason is again pitching. Terry Ryan will have a much more definitive grade after this offseason, as he will be judged on how close he has brought the Twins to competing.
  7. I would think with Pelfrey the Twins would either have an extension signed or will trade him before July 31. Hanging onto him in a walk year would not be smart.
  8. I can not agree with this. Parmelee has yet to prove he can hit consistently at the major league level. Also Morneau will not bring a high return. Colabello should be considered next spring when Morneau probably will not be back, but as a starting full time first baseman, not as a platoon player.
  9. Dozier deserves to be kept for at least the next year or two, based on current production. If Rosario pans out he may have to move back to SS, but that is in the future.
  10. Swarzak may not be tendered. Pressley I believe throws harder than the other 2, but if I had to guess on this years performance, it would be Roenicke that goes. Swarzak is a mop, so if he is arb eligible he is also probably gone. Need to protect the youngsters, most clubs will not pick up the Twins mops as most clubs also have protection problems. Hope they will sign some of the players not kept to minor league contracts with spring training invites. Argee with previous poster that many of the Twins on the 40 man roster will not have to be kept.
  11. Good article. It is tough as teams are less and less likely to give up their better prospects to fix the major league club. It shows about what the cap is to make a deal. Interested in seeing if any of this changes as we get close to July 31
  12. With some downgrades and a few prospects in the majors and off the list. Jorge could make the top 20 and would expect it. Would like to see him in Cedar Rapids in August if he keeps up this pace. Nice update.
  13. I doubt Ryan had an offer that made sense for Willingham. That is why he was not traded. We had outfielders coming and needed pitching help. That is why Span and Revere were traded. In the mind of Ryan they were easiler to replace.
  14. I always believed he should start up here. It may take another year for his bat to come around, but plays great defense and good baserunning. It's a start.
  15. I feel the onbase machine Twins have in Nate Roberts has been missed because of injuries this year, but should be on the list. Wimmers is a little high because he has not pitched in a year. Off the top of my head, this list should be close. Nice to revisit at the end of the year.
  16. Interesting note, but a closer can really effect a team more than a starter. Twins should expect at least 1 major talent for moving Perkins, but he is under club control for another 3 years. That also has an effect on price. Still would like to see an AJ type trade, but do not expect it.
  17. I liked Marcum, but not would not have worked. Hard to spend money unless you want to break the bank on a top of the line starter. Twins may have to do that in about 2 years, when they are ready for the next step. Not all trades work out as well as we would have liked, but is has not been lack of effort. Probably a C+ at the major league level and an A- for the minors. Bill Smith has a lot to do with the current crop of Twins new talent at the major league level.
  18. Would hate to lose Perkins, but you have to sell high. Maybe Ryan will see a deal he cannot refuse. With so many clubs needed closers and Perkins price, should hopefully extract a kings ransom for him. Let it be known he is available and let the bidding war begin.
  19. You can never have enough pitching. However given the strength of the outfield in the system, Twins may have enough to trade for a very good starter, or even buy one with all of the cheap players coming up the next few years. Twins should get another very good prospect next year as the draft is supposed to be deeper than this year.
  20. Doubt we will see more than 1 win on this road trip. Time to move some of the veterans, all should be listened, any who will not be here 2-3 years from now should be moved if possible. That does not mean to give them away in salary dumps.
  21. Also doubt Gardy will be back. 1000 wins will be a nice sendoff. Too bad many of the Twins seem to have tuned him out. It happens.
  22. This road trip could be a disaster as after the sweep by NY, every east team will feel they have to sweep the Twins to keep up. And they all know the Yankees have 3 more games with them the end of next week.
  23. Gardy needs some pitching before he can be judged. However I do think Rick Anderson should be let go and maybe Gardy will go with him. Andy just does not seem to make his talent better and if he has input on talent evaluation, it is horrible.
  24. Might take that bet. I think there is a greater chance if Parmelee does not heat up here is not here next year. And I have seen nothing that suggests that he should be. You could move Plouffe to 1st and start Sano at third and get better production than Parmelee is showing.
  25. They always should have been sellers. Now they really have to be. The sooner the better for some, because market may become more crowded with sellers as teams fall out this month. Still they need to make good deals, not just deals to cut payroll. It is clear 2014 will be better, but still rebuilding so any veterens not planned on for 2015 should be moved.
