  1. One down and more to go. Progress for a team is removing dead wood from the 40 man roster, Toronto has room because of trading many upper level minor league prospects on the 40 man roster for the talent they received in trade. Odds are this will not hurt and Twins and in my mind is the start of improvement
  2. Interesting. It may have been caused by the two upper level clubs have been stocked with fillers for the most part and not prospects. If you take that the Twins have 6 of the top 100 prospects, than this ranking is a mystery. The Twins also have probably 5-6 more that would in the top 200-250. And who cares about filler.
  3. My number of Twins wins is 72, and I may be optimistic. I is hard to expect that KC and Cleveland will be as bad as last year. Chicago will probably be worse, but the Tigers will be better, all in all 72 games or so against competition that will be better. AL West will be worse, but AL East will be better than last year as both Toronto, Tampa Bay and Boston have better records. Hope I'm wrong, but we shall see. At least the Twins should be more watchable than last year as we probably see 5-6 more talented minor league prospects by the end of the year.
  4. There are a number of pitchers that have lasted with the same or less stuff than Cole DeVries (Read Jamie Moyers, 1938 version of Dizzy Dean, and others). Location is the big thing for these type of pitchers, also ball movement and changing speeds, Rick Reed is another one that comes to mind). See how he pitches before throwing negative comments. He might surprise you.
  5. Like the Reds better than the Cardinals, but all are very close. Depending on Roy Halliday, Phillies also have a chance, but their window is closing. Diamondbacks are also a contender, but do not seem to match up with the rest of these. Should be an interesting summer.
  6. I think will all are happy the Butera went to Rochester. Best bet is they could outright a pitcher to Rochester, most of them are not that highly regarded anyway. Swarzak would be a candidate to be outrighted if healthy, but do not know the rules for pitchers on the DL.
  7. To the original 5. 1. True, will probably use about 12 2. False, he will struggle at times, but he plays defense and will need to learn of the fly, Twins have no replacement at this time. 3. Yes as the Twins will be out of contention by then, best bets are Willingham and Carroll, also could be one of the veteran starters. 4. Agreed, Escobar will be the starting shortstop by the end of the year. 5. Possibly, depends how he handles the pressure once the regular season starts. Other notes. Parmalee does not finish the season here and Morneau has a good year and is signed to an extension. Both Meyer and May start games here in September. Swarzak will be found expendable by the end of April, as Pressly and Ronicke will pitch there way onto the team.
  8. From what I have read is not Appel considered a#2 or #3 starting pitcher. I would rather take a pitcher with a higher top end, considering what the Twins now have, they could use another #1 or #2 prospect not Appel.
  9. I also think Butera should start in Rochester. Probably will not however, but will see. Depends if Gardy gets his bench bat, which I feel the Twins need. Ramirez will be needed, as Parmalee will need platoon help against tough lefties. All these posters who are banking on Parmalee could be very disappointed. I am hoping for better, but do not think that he will fill the role, especially against lefties. My best guess is the Twins offer Morneau an extension by June and Parmalee will join Benson on his way out of the organization.
  10. The error Boras made is that Lohse is 34. A pitcher on the downside has to be careful to get the good contract. Boris errored and is now crying about it.
  11. Benson needs to tear it up at AAA and that might not be enough if Arcia also tears up AAA. This is Benson's last shot with the Twins, so he could be traded as a throwin for some pitching(Houston perhaps).
  12. Great news. Twins need to see what more of the young players can do. Extra year of control only matters if the player is a superstar or a player that is not likely to be resigned after 6 years. At this point, who knows. This is best for the Twins.
  13. We all hope he does well. .240, 31HR, and about 24 errors. .720 OPS.
  14. Butera to Baltimore for anything vaguely useful would be a good thing. Gardenhire claims to want some punch off the bench. Help him out.
  15. Running down people and their arguments is the quickest way to get me to quit coming to a site. Respectful disagreements are allowed as long as you do not demean the posting person. I was told that I lost a person with an argument, that was fair as I have a tendency to do that. As a point I also post on other sites(this group would never find them), I have seen very few personal attacks there, but several disagreements that can be attempted to be supported by facts. That is what I expect from a site.
  16. I agree that Escobar has a better chance of hitting .230. Hope he will get a chance
  17. I still think Deduno will start here this year. He seems to have figured a few things out. DeVires should also start here, but probably won't. Henricks should be sent to Rochester and a couple of the 40 man roster sent packing to make room for better pitching. I hope it is not as bad as last year, it could be, but would take more bad luck, and if it happens will not effect the long range plans except to slow the progression of help from the minors until later next year.
  18. Deduno should be in the rotation. We can send Henricks back to Rochester. He is a great AAA pitcher, who will probably never make it in the bigs
  19. This guy could be very good. Hope the Twins get him.
  20. Twins should take the best available player. If that is one of the three pitchers, so much the better, but hope it is not Appel. See what happens, but do not need another toolsy outfielder.
  21. Just sending a player to AAA does not mean that he cannot be called up. Players play their way off the roster in spring training or if really good, play their way on. Do not think Butera is who they want, but some other options take time to prove in AAA that they belong.
  22. It sounds like the Twins have a glut of pitching in the upper levels, not all prospects, but just pitchers they need to sort through. Some will move up as spring training advances. If Tonkin starts at Ft. Meyers, he will probably make New Britian by June and hopefully Rochester by August. Twins seem to be conservative, that may be the wrong approach depending on the mental makeup of the players. I feel that sometimes you have to push the players and see how they react to failure.
  23. Happy if he starts in AA. Many expected Meyer to start in A+ ball, so that is a plus. Hope he moves to AAA rapidly.
  24. Even if true, it would probably be midseason before they were suspended. After the test results came out and the appeals were heard. Wonder if this was part of the reason the Boras is setting up his own agency training facility.
  25. Hope he starts in AA. Maybe he can start in AAA.
