    Term limits

That is actually a fantastic point for a couple reasons: 1. It takes a long time or a lot of immediate fundraising/luck to even get to that level. 2. Those numbers are low enough that you are basically BEGGING corruption to happen, payoffs, kick backs etc. 3. This is going to sound like a humble brag but I don't mean it to be, but according to those numbers, I make more than a congressman and my household income (not married but co-habitating) is more than the president makes. I find that a little bizarre personally, if you upped the salary, even by 35% or so, I think you could attract some better candidates and potentially get some candidates to leave a well paying job (even if you would take a hit if you are a Dr) if you could soften the blow. (i.e. a Docter making 400k would maybe consider leaving for a congress job making 250k, no?) Again this is a very simplistic view to a complex problem, I think Congressmen should be paid a good chunk more, probably the PUSA as well, but as long as they don't royally screw everything up they at least have $50,000 a night speaking engagements to fall back on after they are out of office and at least one or two seven figure book deals. Interesting how this thread ended up. As far as two year limits in congress, that seems ridiculous as many mentioned above, you are constantly worrying about the next election. I'd argue that even 4 years is a bit too short, especially for a president, by mid way year 3 you are all of a sudden worrying about the next election. Maybe 5 or 6 years would be the ideal amount? Won't happen, but it's fun to discuss.

  3. Cowboy fans have cooled off a ton the last 10 years, the way they talk now you think they were Vikings fans. Packers are the second worst in the NFL, they are the cardinals of the NFL. The only team fan base who are worse are the Baaaaawwwston Patriots.
  4. I actually find that to be one of the more annoying parts of that franchise and fan base.
  5. I don't get why everyone is so high on the colts this year, in 50% of the articles I see they are predicted to win or at least make the super bowl. That defense is a joke and will get exposed time after time.
  6. that backdoor push.
  7. It would NEVER happen anytime soon, but hypothetically, if they extended term limits to 3 terms for presidents, would Obama be re elected in a landslide? I think, yes.
  8. Trump is a jackass, but the one "good" thing I think has come of this is his unapologetic bashing of the other candidates like Bush etc who have placated the special interest groups and lobbyists their whole political career. Again, trump is a blowhard who should come no where near the White House, but at least he is bringing up that one "single" issue.
  9. I like may and think he should have stayed in the rotation, but he wasn't on his way to being the best pitcher in the rotation, for one, the results were ok but not great, for second he seemed to never be able to pitch longer than 5-6 innings per start. If you want to be "the man/ace" of a rotation you need to regularly go 7 innings or longer.
  10. Is there any actual data that backs anything like that up? I'm guessing, no. Just like innings limits in general for the most part. Pitch counts, yes. I get that, innings limits, no.
  11. Any chance Kepler gets a last second "call up" after the playoffs as a reward?
  12. why? They are completely different players and Santana never sniffed the same minor league numbers Rosario did
  13. Since Pelf obviously won't come out of the rotation now, do the Twins maybe Goto a "hybrid" 6 man rotation the rest of the year? Maybe that can save Duffey a couple innings? I dunno...just spitballing since Gibson, Duffey, Milone and Santana all should certainly stay in the rotation....
  14. I think Arcia could be a good fit for the mets as well personally. He likely doesn't add "much" to the trade in terms of value overall , but who knows maybe he is the 2nd piece of the trade?
  15. the twins play Detroit (non contender) Chicago (non contender), Cleveland (non contender), Detroit again (non contender), and KC who will have zero to play for. The only team they play that is playing for something is the Angels.
  16. yeah my dates were all one off
  17. Santana and Milone are completely different pitchers, so I don't think it's a real apples to apples comparison. Santana has been maddeningly inconsistent, but when he has been "on" for us, wow. Last two starts 15 IP, 1 R and 21! Strike outs. Milone has been solid, no doubt about it, but doesn't have that sort of ability to get 21k's in 15 innings, does that make sense? Milone is closer to Blackburn (when he was giving us 4.00 ERA) and Santana is sort of a poor mans liriano
  18. I was actually all for this, but Escobar has really come out and looked pretty damn solid since being handed the SS role. Still, all things considered I wouldn't hate a Reyes for Nolasco deal because it gets rid of a real issue (Nolasco) opens up a spot for a better, younger, cheaper pitcher, and in return potentially allows the Twins to shop Escobar who might have some pretty appealing trade value all of a sudden, a pipe dream would be to somehow trade Escobar to the Mets in the off-season at that point for Plawecki? Obviously I wouldn't mind them adding a prospect or two they wouldn't miss as well. So after thinking more on it, I would do this deal, but only if they had another deal lined up to then trade Escobar for SP help or Catcher help.
  19. Yeah, that's the whole thing, the Mariners at a glance are a "bad team" due to their record, but these last two games they tossed out Walker (a guy who has dominant stuff but lacks consistency) and Felix (easily one of the best 5 pitchers in baseball year in and year out overall), additionally they have who should actually be the MVP this year in Nelson Cruz (and he actually ended up missing the whole series!) I believe the Mariners were likely "favored" in both games, so going into that series it was more than likely a split would happen vs any other outcome (even with the M's being so many more games behind in the standings, a lot of which had to do with injuries and Fernando Rodney) The Rangers now play Oakland, another team with a bad record, but a slightly deeper look shows they have just been pretty damn unlucky. Oakland winning 1 or 2 games isn't a reach. 4 vs the Astros (good team) and 3 against Seattle where they will end up facing Walker and Felix again. Sure, they could get on fire and win 8 of 10, but in reality 6 of ten is much more likely, which means the Twins just need to match that (or beat that) which they are more than capable of.
  20. Houston is a lot like the Twins, pretty young and pretty inconsistent (Not so much with pitching, but with the bats that are hot as hell, or ice cold) One of them is due to "fade" a bit, if the Twins keep winning series, they should be in good enough shape.
  21. The key is going to be the starting pitching, if they can keep stringing together solid starts, the Twins will make the playoffs.
  22. Said it before, shields would be a great get, he instantly becomes the staff ace
  23. 1. target field 2. Camden 3. safeco 4. AT&T 5. Coors Field Fenway and Wrigley are both DUMPS and should be bulldozed.
  24. so are you impressed or not?
  25. nah, it will go to Gordon, and unfortunately for him he might be overshadowed by two guys on his own team as things progress (Buxton and Hicks)
