I think Kepler’s 2024 season, if he can even be 75% of what his 2nd half 2023 was, is more valuable (along with his defense) to winning in 2024 compared to trading him would do. I don’t see them trading Kepler before the deadline unless they are out of it at that point, which I also don’t expect. Kirilloff could slide to dh too, that works for me. I hope he is healthy

You believe more in AK, like, for the current AND the future? I guess I can’t go that far. It would be great if he can be healthy, that’s absolutely a good thing. But I like Lee’s future in the lineup more. I’d love for both to have long and productive careers

I think these things can be unrelated. But we will see how the spring looks. I think Lee is very close to ready, so when he is, he is going to be up and playing right? And he won’t be playing in the outfield. We will see how it plays out, but I wouldn’t quickly put Kirilloff back in the outfield

I don’t see why it’s Kirilloff vs Kepler. The twins have said that Kirilloff is basically only a 1b going forward, while Kepler is a legitimately good defensive outfielder. If they trade Kirilloff, I take it more as Lee vs Kirilloff. They would want Lee in the lineup more than Kirilloff in the lineup, in that sense.

Lavelle mentioned Kirilloff being traded as well on their chin music podcast. Where there is smoke I suppose there could be fire

I can get behind that too. I know Julien is working at 1b some too, so HOPEFULLY 1b is a strength this year (with Santana able to play against lefties.) But yeah, I don't think they won't be open to adding. It's just these big 4 aren't what they need to be adding. I agree with that.

I'm also thinking, with the Twins NOT being in on Bellinger, that tells me that Kirilloff's wrist is feeling good, and they are truly thinking that Buxton is healthy. IF both of those are true, that's a good thing right?

This one is fascinating as well. Great read! I know I am under-estimating (frankly, not counting on much) from either Paddack or Varland, and even Canterino. I'm very much open to being pleasantly surprised.

I'm not saying this will happen. But didn't Thad Levine report that the Twins were out on signing Josh Donaldson in 2020, only for like 4 days later to sign him? I can't find that quote, but I still am curious how the offseason will play out.

I have a hard time with "sky is falling" type articles. They do have a good team, and they have shown they will be open to acquiring talent. I don't really much care what the payroll number is year to year. If/when they do acquire a playoff level starter (between now and the August 1 deadline) I don't care if that pitcher earns 5 million or 30 million in 2024 or 2025. They have a good team with a lot of young players who are of high quality. That's a good thing.

Agreed with this 100%. I mean, if you were asking me if I wanted Jordan Montgomery or Jesus Luzardo more, the answer is 100% Luzardo right? There are other pitchers, that have been rumored to be available, who I would also prefer to acquire.

I'll follow up on this; IF the Twins are going to trade for a starter still before the season, I'd have to think they are waiting on Montgomery and Snell to sign right? For example, IF the Yankees get Snell, maybe they would be up for turning around and trading Nestor Cortes. Could be a trickle effect for some of these signings that is forcing moves to be on hold, right? Just a thought.

I'm in the camp that says he comes with a LOT of risk, both with public perception and with how he is inside the clubhouse. I also find it interesting that players who have played with him aren't exactly the ones loudly voicing that he deserves a chance in MLB again. Or at least I haven't seen it. Falvey, with his Cleveland connections, as well as Kyle Farmer, Tyler Mahle, Carlos Santana and how many others who have played with the Twins in the last year or two certainly would all have opinions on what it is like to be a teammate of Bauer. There is a reason that he isn't in a major league camp right now, and I'd be willing to bet it's not JUST potential fan reaction. -
All of that works for me. It also makes me think that you think they are done (for now) potentially adding to the rotation. I haven't gotten there yet. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the offseason, and the start of the season, plays out.

I think you could literally do this for every single team in baseball though, right? Who is a team you can't do this with? And I'd argue the Twins need only really 60% of what you listed to absolutely go right. They have a LOT of depth.

I meant it more as, they could control his innings and he could piggy-back at the start with someone IF they want to go that route. I wasn't at all saying they would just have him on the roster and not use him. But if he is stretched out and ready to go 5 innings in a bit over a month, then the rotation looks different right?

I mean, Lee playing 2b while backing up SS and 3B is a GREAT plan. Julien moving to full time DH, with some 1B and 2B is also a GREAT plan.

I do find it interesting, only that I'd say a MAJORITY of team owners over the last week or so (off the top of my head, cubs, giants, rangers, twins, blue jays) that MAY have been connected to any of the last 4 Boras clients have all basically said the exact same thing to the media, almost verbatim. I'm NOT saying this is collusion. But I do think enough teams now question how smart it is to spend 100's of millions of dollars on pitchers in their 30's. Someone is going to get a good player once they blink. Will that good player be good 2 years from now? That's debatable. But we'll see how the rest of the offseason plays out. Also makes me think that is the reason for the holdup of some of the remaining free agents AFTER the big 4 sign. For example, a team isn't going to give Michael Lorenzen money IF they think they have a chance at getting Jordan Montgomery, right?
