  1. "Simmerin' Simeon" was filthy....I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off as his innings mount, but the young man just keeps impressing. Down 3 key players the offense struggles though everyone plays hard and there's been some defensive "Short-Comings" as well. The bullpen has taken turns scuffling. Julien's next call up needs to be in 2025. Today's game seems a bit daunting....Win Twins!
  2. i'm still of the opinion to explore the option / availability of Cal Quantrill...Move Paddack and or Varland to the bullpen.
  3. Here in Wisconsin I was surprised by the Brewers choice of Hoskins over Santana. When the Brewer's added Carlos to the roster last season he was true catalyst. The move to add Rhys has not been totally without merit as he's hit 14 HR / 46 RBI, He is essentially tied with Carlos in terms of those statistics with Carlos having a higher BS at .245 compared to .215...Santana got off to a slow start whereas Rhys was hot at the beginning of the season. I think the second half of the season will be revealing and the two will go head to head on their opposing teams right out of the gate in said second half. The other nuanced story of the Twins first half is Health....Miranda and Correa have been different players simply given the foundation of good health allowing demonstration of their full abilities. I know they are both battling injury presently - But hopefully this is exception and not rule. Win Twins!
  4. Just made a similar post on one of the TD 2924 Draft Sites....Found this interesting - Zebby Mathews was an 8th round pick, correct? He is 6-5" and has put on weight and added mph since his draft day. In this year's draft the Twins chose a half dozen pitchers 6'4" and above - Many of them in the later rounds. Coincidence? Pattern?? Win Twins!
  5. Of the pitchers picked in the 2024 Draft - A half dozen are 6'4" of above....Coincidence? Pattern?
  6. I know, I know....I dream big, but what were Chris Sales measurables when drafted??
  7. My comment in regard to Kyle's vertical is only partially tongue in cheek...Could he profile to center field with his skill set? His height would be very similar to that of another "Undersized" player who roamed the outfield at the Metrodome who's leaping ability probably wasn't given much consideration. I know it's a pretty big projection, but just wondering - Can the guy jump?
  8. Really nice and interesting article - Love the thorough player capsules. Your analysis of the Twins a Brewers picks is particularly insightful....I've got to wonder though - If Janek falls a few spots, would the Twins go "Walker" again??!! Thanks for the piece.
  9. It seems to me that the intra-game approach may be more critical than any treatment pregame or postgame....Is that muscle cooling and tightening while on the bench? Would serving as DH make this better or worse?? i've known athletes whose hamstrings have been problematic their whole careers, I've had issues myself and had a near total tear....That was nearly twenty years ago. I still do the stretches that the Sports PT implemented to this day. For me - Religious post-activity stretching has been critical. All I am saying is that once Royce's / Walker's hamstring heals (several month process) analysis as to the factors leading to the injury and how best to prevent are key....There are a couple of talented wideouts for the Vikings and Packers facing the same dilemma. Much of that process will be outside the context of their seasons via their personal analysis and the personal therapists working with them.
  10. Not just worried about Jenkins - But Lewis as well....Only in the form of mismanagement of the hamstring muscle. These are incredible athletes with premium fast twitch that need constant maintenance by themselves AND training staff - ESPECIALLY after an injury occurs. Controlled warmup with focused stretching is critical pre-game and in-game. I, of course, cannot say with certainty that this is not happening and nor that it is. With Lewis especially - Would it be organizationally offensive to bring in one's own personal trainer? Doesn't seem as if the "Twins Way"'is working. Does it?? Win Twins.
  11. The Mercenary route is one method I guess...Personally, I've been eying Quantrill from the Rockies. I think you could add his talent to the Twins and simultaneously ease some roster congestion with minimal effect to farm system talent. You could then strengthen the bullpen pool by adding one of (or both) the Varland-Paddack mix as both have seemingly hit the wall as starters. Just my thoughts...Lastly a parting question: Is the close game late inning pinch run base stealing threat presently on the Twin's roster?? My two cents for the inflationary dollar....Win Twins!!
  12. "Destroyed" & "Magic Tricks" Bean?? Did you watch the game? Joe was touching 96 / 97 mph - Where did that come from?? Like Bailey - He tends to live at the top of the zone and when he has any semblance of consistency at the bottom he can be a very problematic plate appearance for any hitter....If that velocity and bottom zone control is sustainable we could be looking at a "Pitching Prince" rather than "Pumpkin."!! Let's also hope that the Royals used all of their "Magic Bullets" in the first game....Duck snorts, elusive infield grounders, and frustrating foot foul balls....Yikes. Win Twins!!
  13. Reflecting back to Spring Training - Wasn't there a team manager that verbalized being greatly impressed by Ober's pitching performance and predicted ascension to upper echelon? Phillies? Prescient?? If Bailey can consistently get his breaking pitches to tickle the bottom of the zone...The way he uses the top of the zone - Look out. Here in Brewer-Land I was able to observe the difference Santana made to their roster late last year. After a slow start we are seeing that the veteran can still play - Still lead. CC's all around game was something yesterday. In the field, at the plate. on the bases... And again, leadership. Pretty close to his Prime Time form. Funderburk's appearance was big after Cole's struggles. Speaking of "Big" - He still has work to do in terms of using his frame as effectively as Bailey does. Team Psyche. Following a tough Saturday loss the team looked focused. Both teams were in "Get Away Day" mode, but the Twins put that stumble behind them. Santana, Corea, Baldelli seemed to put the team in short memory mode.
  14. The comments on the bullpen above furthers thoughts I'm sure a lot of us are having....ls it time to push the reset button on Varland's development - at least for this season again. The performance of a couple of our un-named left handers and the already frequent use of a few of the righties leads one to ponder. The un-named lefties may be the ones requiring further grooming at their trade. Louie was a bulldog out of the pen last season. His velocity was up and taking the mound in the later innings did not seem to phase him. How much would the Twins have had to cough up in salary to replace his performance in free agency. Just thinking. - Just saying....
  15. The term "Ace" has undergone change the past decade (at least) and no longer holds the same meaning. In the past a teams "Ace" would throw more complete games on their own as we are now seeing throughout the league in a season. Today's "Ace" must get through a major league lineup 2+ times and turn the ball over to the bullpen. Looking at teams bullpen potential in the minors is as important as their starting rotation potential these days if not more so...Saw an MLB Story on Strasburg's MLB debut the other day - Will that ever happen again?? The Brewer rookie pitcher went 6 innings last night...Managers now start obsessing with their matchup charts in the 4th / 5th inning. The other day when Pablo was pulled against the Mariners - How would that scenario played out 15-20 years ago when the term "Ace" truly had meaning. I know EXACTLY what you mean by the term Roger, but does today's game???
  16. When you have an all-world shortstop who plays the game one step ahead as well, that makes your team pretty damn strong up the middle...
  17. "If you shake the Baseball Tree - About 9 gloves fall out for every bat." That may be, but don't let those bats hit you. They really hurt!!!
  18. Noah Miller SS drafted out of HS in Fredonia (Ozaukee) is now 20 /21 and a minor league gold glove winner with his bat on the rise...Connor Prielipp from Tomah with so much left arm talent if only he could keep it out of the OR - Now 22. Following these 2 closely and hoping their future is still bright! On Wisconsin!! "Brace" for greatness Twins Fans??!!
  19. Walter Jenkins - Charles Soto - Luke Kenschall (Let's not forget him) - Brandon Winokur....Such physicality. Such talent. Such potential. Those are "Only" the first four picks. Then you contemplate the recent international signings. Historically, where will this draft play in Twins History??. Pretty exciting to contemplate.
  20. Bob Ueker when asked how to best catch an Niekro Knuckleball: "Wait until it stops rolling and pick it up...."
  21. The thing that struck me about this pick as well as our #1 last year is the mutual physicality. You cannot coach major league bodies such as these...Look at the young pitcher we recently received from Seattle in trade for example. Over 6" and what - 180 lbs?? So many college players are drafted every year that look so frail. Ability with such physicality essentially leaves 2 symbiotic variables - maturation / development & "coachability." Their interviews thus far would indicate potential sky's the limit ability. Fingers crossed. Win Twins.
  22. As a Twins Fan in Wisconsin I witnessed the difference the addition of Carlos made to the Brew Crews bench later last season. He solidified the first base position and was solid at dh. His leadership presence was palpable to that young roster. His role was complementary, seasoned experience, and performance. We as Twins Fans are fully aware of his in-game impact when he was in his prime. Late last season the Brewers witnessed this up close and personal. Did signing Rhys Hoskins make this role redundant?? Milwaukee is about to find out....Santana has been a lucky name in the Twins organization thus far. His tank is obviously not empty. He can also do a killer guitar solo national anthem once in a while!! Win Twins.
