I remember Connor's Draft Day back in 2022 having followed his career back to his HS days in Tomah, WI. Lanky would be an understatement as his body type was extremely "Whip-Like." But boy could he whip that ball to the plate. He chose Alabama for college and his talent and impact were quickly apparent. I truly believe that for some young players physique lags behind bountiful talent. His body trailed obvious gift. A few years and surgeries later, hopefully his body has drawn even and the operations have strengthened, stabilized, and healed. This was the floor we all feared on draft day. Now, hopefully, things will trend toward ceiling for this young man. Obviously a long way to go in this rugged trek toward ceiling, but I recall on draft day seeing serious similarity in terms of POTENTIAL to another MLB pitcher. One drafted in 2010 out of Florida Gulf Coast by our division rival White Sox. I know...That's legendary ceiling status, but having seen him throw in HS the similarity was there, and I wasn't the only one who saw it. The kid was as nice as he was gangly, and I wish him health and success.... BUT - Having said all that. The hidden and undiscussed nugget in all of this may be the blip about Soto. Charlie was taken in the following year's MLB Draft and is now 19 years old. Buried in this wonderful piece about Prielepp is the fact of Soto touching 100 mph from the mound. Talk about ceiling and scratching the surface...My "Dream Big" comparison for him would be a right handed Carsten Charles. I know, I know....

My wife and I suffered from the same virus recently this Winter which included a horrific cough. She broke 2 ribs and I strained intercostals on both sides of my chest. This was a few weeks ago and we both still suffer after-effects and many of the activities of daily living remain painful and often result repeat strain. Can't imagine getting on the mound with such an injury a trying to hurl a baseball with all the body torque involved. Here's to health and heat for Duran this season....

Twins 2025 Prospect Previews: Kaelen Culpepper
madtowntwin replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
From both a physicality and a "Bio Perspective" on Draft Day I began dreaming of a Tim Anderson type ceiling for Kaelen....I know - A lot on the young man's shoulders, but a fan can dream!! -
I am almost positive that said above relief synopsis disappointed many in Twins Nation. The same certainty extends to those in the Twin's Dugout. In that dugout the most likely anguished Twin had to be Pablo Lopez. Yet I am also almost certain that Pablo was the first to Alcala's locker tor a pat on the back and some consolation. A writer above mentioned pitch selection and to some extent that may have played a role. A reminder that there was a Twins catcher with electronic device also involved in that process. The Yin & Yang of MLB - One team gets to the others closer who hadn't been scored on all year The other team gets to a young and upcoming late innings star in the making. Play Ball! Win Twins!!!

Aaron Judge made his major league debut approximately 8 years ago at age 23 / 24 - and the rest is history...Winfield debuted at age 21. Just sayin' Twinstalker....But in your precocious prescience you are probably were aware of that!!!

As another recent minor league summation revealed - 16 stolen bases!! I distinctly remember on the day Brandon was drafted drooling over the specs and talent within that 6'6" frame and a daydream comparison floated to my consciousness....Not Judge as noted above, rather, Winfield...Still early, but a little more reality to that initial fantasy. Keep making us proud Brandon! Win Twins!!

The Milwaukee Brewers traded for Carlos at last season's deadline in a ho-hum move (at the time) which proved pivotal in their stretch drive. The Twins have observed his talent in other team iterations up close and personal as well....He would have to be given serious consideration as team MVP for this season"s performance. His bat, glove. leadership, and durability have been central in my opinion...Pick a corner outfield position for 2025 Royce Lewis - And come up with a viable offseason hamstring regimen.

The other image is the 18 y/o Charlie Soto's 6'3" inch frame gathering physicality, momentum, and mph on the mound. Both are impressive mental images for daydreaming Twins fans...

I am trying to process the mental image of Brandon Winokur unfolding his 6'6" frame stealing a base and the fact that it has happened a sweet sixteen times.

Trying to find the silver lining(s) on a disappointing day overall...Griping is low hanging fruit so I'll try to reach a bit higher. David looked much more composed on the mound and was a bit more efficient with a seemingly better plan overall. Has he always been paired with the same catcher? Has the composure and confidence come with more repetition?? Caleb sees to be finding his groove once more...Again - how much did that early injury derail his season initially?? Then there's Miranda....I was involved in a serious bike crash several years ago - Took time to feel comfortable in the saddle again, particularly in traffic. Digging into the batters box just days of taking a fastball to the helmet....Just wow. Pulling for you Jose.

Flaherty scratched from last night's start....Will Quantrill take the mound tonight?? Odds that either or neither will make their next start very soon against the Mets?? Here in Madison - Oscar Meyer made millions on bologna and the Weiner-Mobile still roams the streets. Didn't know the Pohlads were in the business. If most people don't want to know how sausage is made....Under seven hours folks. Win Twins!

My take on Kikuchi would be as a fifth starter as well....Until, hopefully, the Twins make the playoffs and then he comes out of the bullpen. How would that play? How many mph to his fastball?? His starter length would then play across multiple innings in potential relief role then potentially...Intriguing??

Dear Pohlads: Don't Do This
madtowntwin replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My very focused take from this article is how close the Twins and Brewers are in revenue. Living here in Wisconsin I thought it to be close, but almost identical??!! What's 20 million to these guys??!! Anyway as both are very involved in the playoff race - albeit in AL / NL respectively - it will be fascinating to compare & contrast their organizational moves over the next 32ish hours. -
Jack Flaherty is supposed to be on the mound tonight for the Tigers and Cal Quantrill on Tuesday for the Rockies....Odds on either or both fulfilling their scheduled starts? Odds that either pitchers next start comes very soon against the Mets?? 32 hours or so will tell...The Cubs recent moves for Paredes and Pearson (both players controllable thru '26) are interesting as emblematic that you can improve your team for this year's playoff picture as well as next season as a whole. Tick, tick, tick....

Thanks Bean - about what I thought in terms of age...I look at the Tiger pitcher the Twins faced last night in Skubal who I think is 27. Same kind of pitch mix. Is that too high of a ceiling?? Similar build. Not sure if Tarik has had TJ Surgery as well. 40 innings seems reasonable. Off season program seems critical.

Just a thought here....But as a former Tampa Pitcher considering the Yankees and the AL East. Would you really want to go back and have to throw so often against that division again?? Granted - The new schedule format has softened that daunting proposition somewhat, but I've got to believe that he and his agent have to be saying: "Been there - Done that."

Prielipp is only 22-23 right?? His pitch mix out of Alabama was pretty developed. As a Wisconsin kid (out of Tomah I believe) I've been pulling for him since the draft. Obviously, subsequent to the elbow injury and TJ surgery his development and innings will be very cautious and supervised - But here's hoping. That same talent and pitch mix should have him on a starter's trajectory for present time. He and the recently drafted Dassan Hill add some definite dynamic left handed pitching potential to the Twin's minor league system. Win Twins!

Watched Flaherty pitch last night against the Guardians and Bibee last night...He went toe to toe striking out 6 with 3 walks and a nice pitch mix that kept Cleveland off balance and base. The Cleveland bullpen ended up being the difference. Their closer is on a whole different level with his control. I've been pushing for Cal Quantrill after watching him a few times including his performance against the Twins earlier this season. The Cleveland announcers even mentioned how Jack is tantalizing GMs at the deadline....Not sure if the Cardinals need another starter and that he may be more logical fit, but I was impressed. Minnesota is next on the road in Detroit - Hmmmmm.....Win Twins!
