  1. I guess my sarcasm is so advanced that people just think I'm stupid.....
  2. A good comp is what we saw from Carlos Gomez (note: I think Buxton is way more talented that Gomez ever was). Gomez was way over matched in his time here and had trouble putting things together, it wasn't until he was 26 and in his 3rd year with Milwaukee that he started to put things together. Buxton was a much better minor leaguer and has a better skill set than Gomez had, it might take him a bit to put things together at the ML level but I think he'll get there sooner. Remember that Span was left for dead in the minors (prompting the Gomez trade) until he was 24 and then he put things together and came out of nowhere to be one of the most consistent CFers in MLB over the past 8 years. Will he be Griffy Jr or Trout like he was unfairly touted to be? Probably not, but he could be as good as Torri Hunter (who wasn't really a threat with his bat until he turned 25 and didn't bat over .300 until he was 36) eventually, give him some time
  3. I have some friends that do similar stuff in Houston. It's super risky and really dangerous. I'm surprised they put their names out there, some of those sex trafficking rings reach into this part of the world and it's not uncommon (even in America) for people who are considered a threat to the operation to turn up missing or dead.
  4. of all of the teams that started 0-7 the highest end of the season finish was 3rd place.....
  5. I cannot and will not choose a team to bandwagon with, I will go down with the burning ship no matter how early!!!! Although I will probably choose to root for a team in the playoffs if/when the Twins are not involved. I live in KC and used to live in Houston so those are two obvious choices for me and I kinda liked the Mets as a NL team because I have a friend who's a huge Mets fan.....
  6. If it helps Boston did win 90 games that year even though they missed the playoffs and in those first 6 games they were walloped in every game, ours have at least been close except one although maybe that makes it hurt more
  7. Here's an article after Boston's 0-6 start in 2011, not sure if anyone's done it since but it basically says the 74' Pirates and the 95' Reds are the only ones to do it http://www.hardballtimes.com/tht-live/visual-baseball-what-does-an-0-6-start-mean-for-boston/
  8. I don't know what their first 6 games were but the 2001 Oakland A's started April 8-17 and finished the year with 102 wins, I think the 2006 Twins were close to that as well
  9. I think the game's at 6:15, not 7:15. Why are we still trying Santana in the #2 spot? doesn't make sense to me
  10. That Red Wings line up is going to be something crazy this year. My concern is how many of those players are blocked by guys in the majors, I know it's a good problem to have but something's got to give and I'm worried with our bullpen struggles some good players are going to be dumped for relief arms (again)
  11. Man waiting on rain delays sucks.......
  12. Hey guys, I'm a Twins fan living in KC. I've only been to Kauffman once and we just got the cheap seats. I'm planning on going to the Twins/Royals game next friday when my Dad was in town to visit. For anyone who's been to a game there, do you have recommendations for a good section to sit? Thanks
  13. Isn't it fun to argue over the 5th starter? Remember when Nolasco was our opening day starter? Or how about Worley or Pavano? It's nice to have decent starters at the top for a change
  14. That's a huge disparity! My point though is we didn't really have crap back then, no wonder we went through so many years of rebuilding
  15. Reading this list is reminding me of how insanely deep our farm is even after graduating Sano and May. Any of those guys from 30-20 would be top 15 players in most systems, ABW and Stewart are probably top 5 players in most systems and Jay would be a top 3 player! That top 3 is crazy and I feel like all 3 of those guys could become all stars in their career at some point. Remember when Blackburn was our #1 overall prospect and Joe Benson was always top 3? I feel like both of those guys would be outside the top 10 now. We are lucky and while not all of these guys will make it I'm optimistic about our future
  16. I know I'm not Jeremy but I really like Benson. He's Huge (6'6" 220) and will likely grow some more but he plays so fluid I think he could be a plus defender. Looks like he's got some good speed too. Dispite some reports his arm looks pretty weak to me (at least on the only OF video I could find). Plays kinda reckless like Buxton does but I like it, as long as it doesn't result in injuries or too many mental mistakes. His stroke reminds me of Eric Hosmer when he was in HS. He doesn't generate a ton of power dispite his frame which most likely is a result from his inconsistant plant foot. Needs to learn how to create more leverage with his legs. He's a little raw but I really like his tools
  17. This is the most ridiculous post I've ever seen on here! You would be pissed if the Twins ended up with guys who were like Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Brad Radke, Phil Niekro, Orel Hershiser, Mike Mussina, Madison Bumgarner, or Cliff Lee? All guys who had (or have) low 90s fastballs. Steve Dalkowski had what many believe as the best Fastball of all time but he fizzled out because he couldn't hit the strikezone. We've drafted guys like Shooter Hunt and Billy Bullock and they were awful. Newsflash as well, Successful flamethrower pitchers that can hit the strikezone and start rarely drop out of the top 10 unless they are injured. Maybe if we were in the top 5 we could have this discussion but at #16 those guys aren't going to be there without serious question marks
  18. Guys I'm going to be keeping an eye on for this draft: Chris Okey - C, Clemson: He's the top catcher in this class and that's where we're weak. He needs to shorten up his swing but he's a solid overall player Matt Krook - LHP, Oregon: Coming off TJ last year and has been getting his strength back, it will all depend on how he responds this year and if he can get his velocity up, he has a very smooth motion though Kyle Funkhouser - RHP, Louisville: Power pitcher that we're all familiar with. He faded last year and dropped to the supplemental round. If he dominates this year we might not have a shot at him William Benson - OF, HS: Tall, Athletic, and plays with a ton of fire. He reminds me of a bigger lefthanded version of Buxton. He's a corner OF/1B because many think he will grow (or is already) too big for any other position but he moves really well and has great speed for his size Cal Quantrill - RHP, Stanford: He was a top prospect before TJ surgury, it will be interesting to see how he recovers, could be a sleeper. His motion is a little high stress and could become an issue, reminds me of Matuella last year but not as violent Andrew Lantrip - RHP, Houston: I'm bias because I'm a Houston fan but he has improved every year and is the best starter on a very good team. He has some mechanical issues to clean up especially out of the stretch but he could be a good one especially in the 2nd or 3rd
  19. The problem is we passed on Aaron Nola for this very reason and he's proving that he can hold his own in the majors and the "high ceiling" guy we drafted has been kinda "meh," you forget that Radke and Maddox were this type of pitcher and they were great......
  20. You forgot Jay as a potential starter. He might be a few years off but he has the potential, if not he could become part of that lights out Bullpen
  21. Like I said, I actually liked the picks that year but even going back to Gutierrez(Technically he was late 1st round but it still applies), Shooter Hunt, Bashore, Luke Bard, Etc. Those were terrible picks at the time and continue to look terrible. Those times were when they went with the "safe" picks and it didn't really work out like that. Granted very few of those guys actually make it so I guess it's not really a big deal
  22. It's interesting to hear the Burdi clip where he says he moved his foot on the rubber from the first base side to third and that's where that late success came from. It's amazing to me that such a little adjustment can make all the difference. I hope he continues to steamroll into the majors, I have him as an impact arm at some point next year and I think he can help us in the same way Herrera does for the Royals
  23. Turner has positional value and I believe he's a pretty good catcher at that. Harrison doesn't really fit anywhere defensively. I've always rooted for Harrison he just hasn't really put it together like I thought he would. I was estatic about him and Boyd in that draft and neither of them panned out. on a side note that just reminds me that we've done pretty good with 1st round picks but absolutely abysmal with supplimental 1st rounders, it's basically Berrios and a whole bunch of nothin
  24. Biggest Surprise for 2015 for me is Hicks figuring it out, I was a big Hicks supporter but even I had left him for dead. Sano dominating like he did and Duffy are probably close seconds For 2016 I'm predicting ABW and Nick Burdi are going to contribute bigtime. On a secondary note I think Kohl Stewart is gonna put some things together and assert himself as a top prospect again
