  1. I believe we would do it, Mets probably would not
  2. If Buxton turned out to have a career like Torri Hunter would we be disappointed? Not quite the Griffy Jr. or Mike Trout we thought he could be but it would be really solid. It's looking like he could go that way and I don't think it would be all that bad
  3. "Wieters mustered just eight long balls and 25 homers; he added 14 doubles and tripled once." What was this supposed to say? Kinda confusing
  4. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Mauer was pretty good at 1st base
  5. Question after watching that video, the announcer keeps pronouncing his name like Berr-EEos as I've never actually heard his name this came as a surprise to me. Is that how you pronounce it? I've been saying Berry-os
  6. I was a big Turner proponent early on but as time went on he looked more and more like Levi Michael, there was always an upside with him but there was some risk involved as well. Let's not forget that Gordon has some really good long term value and we always knew it was gonna take some time with him. Up to the draft I moved off of Turner and on to Nola, That would have also been a good pick but in the end Gordon might end up being better than both. Think of the 2012 draft, Zunino, Gausman, and Wacha all made it up quick, while they are all decent no one would argue that Correa and Buxton were better picks, I even think Giolito might be better in the long run. Give it some time
  7. It was never about him being ready or not, we are still committed to getting Hunter at bats so with Hicks lighting it up we wanted to get lots of at bats for Hicks, Rosario, and Buxton while staying committed to getting Hunter at bats (right or wrong decision aside). So the logical choice was to send Buxton down to get him as many at bats as possible, with Hicks going down we can call him up to get playing time in the majors. I feel like once Hicks is ready Hunter will ride the pine unless there's other injuries.
  8. I understand that, I was referring to quality at bats that result in outs
  9. I know I'm probably gonna get slammed for this but Mauer provides more value than we give him credit for on this board. I get it, he's slumping and not looking great, it took Morneau several years before he was back to a decent form and I believe Mauer will do the same. But in the mean time he is not the major issue with this team. He provides excellent defense and by just the eye test I would say he's probably one of the top 5 defensive 1B in the AL and I know defense at 1B isn't something that's crucial but it definitely helps. He also provides quality at bats. I believe this is under rated in baseball and won't really show up in stats but he works the count, fouls off a bunch of pitches, and takes a bunch of walks. This gets the pitch count up for pitchers and frustrates them as well. I think of that game a few weeks ago where in the 9th Joe and Sano both had quality at bats, took a ton of pitches and ultimately both drew walks. The game was ultimately won on a walk off because the pitcher was flustered, this kind of thing doesn't show up in box scores. I know it's not huge and doesn't justify his contract but it's something. We have bigger fish to fry and there's bigger problems with this team than joe. He's not going anywhere so we'd better get used to it
  10. Yea, I feel like the "ideal" catcher's build is a bit outdated, it used to be in the past these tall catchers were prone to knee and hip injuries and you wanted a shorter guy because his catch and throw was usually a bit quicker and he wouldn't get as many injuries. The catch and throw obviously isn't an issue with Navarreto and these days with modern conditioning, training, medicine, surgery, and the like the knee issue is almost a thing of the past. In fact that was a concern for Mauer but his injuries were usually back stuff and then the freak concussion, the only leg stuff he delt with was the mysterious bilateral leg weakness. Does anyone remember any knee stuff with Mauer?
  11. Are we absolutely sure that the Twins don't plan on Sano being a DH full time a la David Ortiz? I know he has more value as a 3B but they've played him there once so far even with other opportunities they opted to go with Nunez instead. Molitor doesn't seem comfortable with him at 3rd so it looks like he's gonna DH at least for a little bit. Plus we don't really have other great options for DH, until Vargas or Arcia start hitting Sano is our best option there. I would be down with trading Plouffe for a Catcher but absolutely not for a bullpen guy, he has too much value for that kind of trade. I'm still on the Plawecki from the Mets bandwagon. I don't think Susac is realistic, and Norris is OK
  12. why is Duensing still on this team much less being in there in critical situations?!?!?!
  13. "You want to sit down but you sold your chair so you.......you just stand there, just stand there....." (For those of you who didn't get the reference)
  14. I hate to give up Rosario for a reliever and a 26 y/o AA player. They sound nice and all but it seems like we could get them for less
  15. Without looking it up I believe his contract goes until 2021 with an option of some sort
  16. I would be reluctant to give up Berrios as I feel he could be the Ace we've been waiting for. Gibson would be hard to stomach but he's probably at his peak value and is likely to regress to an ERA somewhere in the mid 3s with low Ks making him a good but not great pitcher that's more of a #2/3 type. I'd be ok with parting with him for Tulo. A package of Gibson/May, Polanco, Meyer, and a mid level prospect like Harrison would be ok to me
  17. Jay is absolutely underperforming, he has an 8+ era so far, that's bad for any prospect much less one who was touted as a ML ready arm. I can see your point on Stewart although he has slipped in some rankings. If he doesn't get his Ks up he might really only be a #4 or #5 guy, that's pretty disappointing for the #4 overall pick
  18. Not up to the standard we're used to for sure but minus Buxton and Sano this is actually a middle of the road farm system which is pretty good considering we've graduated a bunch of guys recently. The Jay pick is really hurting us as of now and Stewart is disappointing (although I think he is ranked low on this) so that's 2 top 6 picks that are underperforming. We should get used to this though because we're not gonna have as many top 10 picks from now on and it's really hard to build a very good farm system without those
  19. I would absolutely trade Meyer and ABW for Gomez, although it would probably make our crowded outfield a bigger problem but I could see an outfield of Rosario, Buxton, and Gomez for the future. Would be one of the best defensive outfields in the majors for sure
  20. I would make a trade for Plawecki from the Mets. He's been somewhat struggling at the plate right now but he could be the catcher of the future and they have D'Arnaud (who's hurt right now but will be back soon). The Mets are hurting for bats like it's no one's business. Would they trade Plawecki for ABW and Arcia? It would take care of log jams on both teams and it would be significant upside on both sides. Too much or too little?
  21. He falls under the category of electric stuff, poor control, and odd mechanics along with sub par results. It would have taken a lot of work to get him to be a MLB player and the Twins have not had much success in that department. I would have much rather gone after Austin Rei or Matuella (although he was expensive)
  22. Bard and Berrios were technically 1st rounders, they were just supplemental picks. The only 2nd rounders I can remember making an impact were Slowey, Baker, and Crain. I think Swarzak was a 2nd rounder as well. Basically it's been a while for us although there's still hope with a few of the more recent guys
  23. I was never much a fan of the Cody pick anyways, if he doesn't sign at least we get the pick back next year and the crop might be better than it was this year
