  1. my take is that Santana is the voice of the clubhouse in this case. I know that the Manual of the Good GM says that you should trade your good pieces when it doesn't look like you are going to make the play-offs, but you shouldn't expect the players to like it. And Santana said it, that's it
  2. Why Sano is not playing? Is he hurt?
  3. The problem with this is that the generation of Buxton, Sano, Rosario, Berrios was supposed to be "The Team". If this fails the Twins are in really big trouble for years
  4. I think this is a good idea. I had the same feeling, but too lazy to do the research. However, a good AL team wouldn't be a better comparison? Let's say, Houston or Seattle? I say because the NL has different rules, so the way a manager uses his players has to be a little different.
  5. Regarding Reed, yes it was good that they didn't score a run on him, but I have to say that 2 of the outs were of the "loud" variety. He was lucky on those two
  6. Wasn't the Jose debut in Detroit also terrible? Or it was his second game?
  7. You are forgetting the unforgettable Marquis.
  8. Isn't it obvious? The answer is...Bobby Wilson!
  9. Hey, how does the 2019 draft look like?
  10. I would say yes. The core of this team is young, so it would be in place for 5-6 years minimum. If not now, then when?
  11. Shhh! This is part of the plan. Another game to increase the negative run differential and confuse our rivals
  12. For what I could see on TV, Enns seems a lefty with a sneaky fast ball but not much else. The curve ball didn't fool anybody, at least yesterday. Maybe a talk with Bartolo about how to mix the pitches can help.
  13. •Falvey took some guff on this site for not adding pitching during the offseason. Why? Cuz the pitching has been well below average. So we wanna dump the few effective guys we have and start from zero, again? Good pitching is hard to find. Stockpile that stuff. •MLB isn't the NHL, where you can draft Connor McDavid and become a competitor overnight. Tanking is a dubious strategy at best. Unless you want the KC or Pittsburgh 20 year rebuild. •People wanna trade guys like Dozier, ESan, Kintzler, at peak value, because they see flaws: age, contract issues, regression/unsustainability.... Somehow, other teams scouts seem to miss all this. Any prospect coming back will likely have some major hole in their game as well. •Keep good players. Add more. I wasn't aware there was a salary cap in baseball. Trading Dozier or ESan would make sense if there was a cheaper option of similar ability to take their place. People thought Polanco would slot right in to Dozier's spot - the guy with a lower batting average than Buxton. •Garver and Gordon - ready, or nearly soi. So if EE could nab a Meija, yes. Giminez, never know. But you are selling from a position of of depth. Selling pitching, for this team? •Attendance is in free fall - even with a whiff of respectability. Most of the vaunted top prospects are on the club. Build a culture of winning dammit. Agreed 100%. I think we are over-reacting to getting swept by the best and hottest team in baseball right now. And these were close games, it is not that they destroy the Twins like the Astros did in some games. The rest of the schedule is pretty soft from now on. Let's see what happens.
  14. For the moment, I would replace Duffy in his role with Hidenberger, and let Duffy figure it out under less pressure. Yes, he had 2 quick outs, but were 2 hard hit fly balls.
  15. One thing that surprised me is that he didn't know the outfield was shifted. Isn't his responsibility to look back and see how his defense is positioned? No wander Molitor sounded unhappy
  16. I would say it needs help for sure, but with the addition of Busenits, Hiledenbrger and Boshiers it looks better. Now it is a question of 1 or 2 more arms.
  17. Judging by the game today, nobody seems to be interested in having a job next year. Oh, boy!
  18. At this point, I don't know what the rationale is to play Mauer. The guy, is obviously hurting, can't even run to first base, and these would be precious at bats for Vargas.
  19. The move is terrible. What for? What are they go to learn or change in 10 days? The silver lining is that they go back to a winning team. At least to a more positive environment. The climate in that Twins clubhouse must be really bad.
  20. The argument that really annoys me, for all those that rare against living wages, in MiLB and beyond, is when they say that if they pay a decent wage the business can't survive. If your business model requires that you pay wages that don't allow people to live from their full time job, then there is something wrong with your business model, not with the people asking for a living wage
  21. Yes. A little bit out of topic, but, with all the money in the sport, why there is not padding all around the out field walls in MLB stadiums? Look at all the lives and injuries that were saved in NASCAR with the safer barriers. I have to think than padding outfield walls in MLB stadiums has to be a much smaller investment.
  22. The guy seems pretty decent. The issue that I will be glad if somebody explains to me is what are the purpose of these moves? This will not change what happened in the season. The guy is not somebody that you would say, "it can anchor the bullpen in the future". So, it is hard to understand what is the idea, what is the plan. I wish it is me not understanding what they are doing, but I am afraid it's not me.
  23. I think Thylos and the ones that commented below him nailed in this one. 1) The game has evolved in a way that to be a good front office person has nothing to do with whether you were ever good at playing the game. But you have to be good at communicating and understanding the needs of those who play and coach the game. For that, recruiting and training in the job people of similar cultural backgroung to those who are playing should be a priority. Every successful, well run organization does it, and it is not for PR reasons exclusively. The same goes for coaching staff. Train and promote staff with diverse cultural background, and then you will have candidates when the time comes for opportunities in the upper positions. And try to integrate more within the players too. It is right there for everyone to see, but nobody comments on it. When they show the dugout, the latin guys are in one corner, the white guys on the other, The only one that shows an effort to make a bridge is Dozier. That couldn't be good for team chemistry. Having managers and coaches of diverse background would help to bridge those gaps.
