  1. My impression is that he has the pitches, no doubt. I think he ran out of gast starting in the 4th inning, which is not hard to understand. He has a long minor leage season behind, a few starts in MLB, that didn't go well. A lot of adrenaline in the first inning and then when that wears out, the wall comes. But, different than when you see the Correias of the world pitching, with May you see that the pitches are there.
  2. I don't know if we can't put the blame on him about the Barlett snafu. He was dealing with a very serious health issue at that time.
  3. If you are going to call up people that is not in the 40-man, I would prioritize the bullpen pitchers: Meyer (although he is going to be a starter, it would not hurt to give him a few innings from the bullpen as a first try), and Oliveros. From the hitters, maybe Beresford. You can argue for Romero, but as you say, that position seems to be covered by Plouffe, Nunez, and in the future, Sano. Bernier was already here last year, he is not going to help the Twins in any way.
  4. For the first year in the position, Plouffe defense was really bad, and now he has really improved. Even Mauer, with his natural athletic ability, just now is playing a good 1st base defensively. That tells me that is not that easy to move players around and get them to play the position well. And the Twins have struggle for years finding competent 3rd basemen. So, for next year I would keep Plouffe at 3rd. Sano will have next year in AAA to show which position he can play (3rd base or outfield). And then things will sort out by themselves. Maybe the best option would be to trade Plouffe at that time, but my impression is that right noe is early to tell. What I don't think is a good idea is to jerk Plouffe around the field.
  5. Another example of somebody that came as a bullpen arm, before becoming a starter, was Glen Perkins.
  6. Well I like it too, but, the problems is, would the Dodgers like it? I know, they gave us something for Drew, but their generosity may have a limit..
  7. After seing unimpressive plays by Fryer las night, and considering that Suzuki calls a good game but is less than great throwing runners, when you put everything in the balance, why not Pinto?
  8. If everything develops as it should (and that is a big if) I would putSano before Dozier. Otherwise, just the same.
  9. Maybe I am wrong but I remember reading that ptching this year was already ruled out for him.
  10. Regarding to Buxton, I think he will dictate his own time line. If he tears it up in AA, he will force the issue with performance. Having said that, I don't think he will come up this year. Maybe middle of nex year. And with Hicks, I know everybody got burnt with him, but I would not be surprised if he comes up next year, or as a called up in September, and plays much better. He has the talent. They made a mistake rushing him, considering his history. But I think he couls succeed.
  11. I guess walks, home runs are part of the results too. The process would be subtle changes in the delivery, location, release point, etc. Of course Perkins is not going to talk specifically about those, because he does not want to give everything away, but when you compare those changes with a quantification of the results, that gives you a better idea of what it works, than just wether "it feels good".
  12. So, basically, at worst is a left handed Correia, cost-controlled for 3 years.
  13. Well, I am no doctor, but it is evident that something happened in that shoulder. I am sure that they are going to check further on this, even when they send the "everything is ok" message.
  14. I see many people getting happy if the Twins move guys. I feel different. I have to see who they bring before having an opinion on whether I like a trade or not. Twins contenders or not, we still like to watch good games. If they trade Willingham (to mention the most obvious choice) for a "never will be", what does that accomplish? On the other hand, if it gets a nice prospect, someone with real chances to do something at the big leages, even if now he is at single A, then that is worth it.
  15. If there is something that seems wrong to me, is that the manager makes health related decisions. I am no doctor, but I can imagine that at this point trained and medical professionals know tell-all symptoms that indicates an apparent inocent soreness can indicate a more serious injury. As soon as a player have some pain, report it and check it out. No need to get an MRI in every case. But it would be better if the decisions about when to play with pain are done by somebody thet knows something about sports medicine.
  16. I agree with you, coming from Gardy that's unusual. More than willfully screwing up, maybe they sense a lack of effort intensity, like "I've got my contract so I don't have to work that hard" thing. I could be totally wrong, but it gives that impression.
  17. Also they used the 40-men roster to protect players that they did not intend to call up this year (Kepler, Polanco (well, now they were forced too), Vargas). It is not a criticism, they had to do it to protect them. It is part of the reality of why the 40-men is thin in some positions.
  18. I was thinking the same thing. If they DFA Florimon, Beresford or Bernier are OK options as utility guys.
  19. You know what. The game is already kind of lost and our bull pen is overused. Let him there earn his money until his arm falls off. What to do with this guy? Performance wise, he is the least deserving of his spot. And we have him with a 4 year contract.
  20. If Pino goes to Rochester, does that mean that Deduno returns to the rotation? Or they will promote May and send Polanco down when the rotation spot comes?
  21. There are plenty of pitchers that have successful careers with the type of stuff Pino has. Probably he will not be the ace of the team, but he is not a "pitch to contact" that gets lucky for a while. He had 7 strike-outs swinging. Of course he can fail in the long run. But it is not obvious that he will.
  22. “When he decides they’re ready to do this, he will make that decision more than I will. You know what I mean? There’s way more to it than what’s just black and white and right out in front. There’s a lot involved, and I think you know what all those things are.” This one is clear: They pay those big fat contracts to these guys, they want them to pitch (well, Deduno may be the exception, but Gardy selected Deduno, so he may get a little bit more of a chance here)
  23. It seems to me that there are 2 aspects of the problem: One is Hicks struggles, the change from switch hitting, should he be demoted?, etc. On that aspect, pretty much everyone agrees that he should go to AAA at least to easy the transition to exclusive right handed hitting and so on. And then who knows.. Will he come back and be a great player? I don't think anybody knows right know. The second aspect is the "Slowey" treatment that he is receiving: the organization using the friendly media (Dick Bremer, the Star Tribune bloggers) to question his motivations, to spread rumors that should be better kept inside. That to me is a horrible practice. How do you feel if in your job your boss pread the rumor that you are not really trying to work hard? And to do that to a 24 yr old, that was rushed to the majors because of organizational need? That part is really a shame, and is not the first time they do that.
  24. Gardy's answer the only thing that says to me is that he is going to make the next start. Basically he is saying I have him in my roster, he is going to start. Not really a lot of praise in there. Yes he could have avoided mentioning the guys in AAA, but the fact that he mention them, is telling me that they are thinking serioulsly about it. By the way, Correa was pitching in one of the games I attended. Even when he is pitching well (getting lucky) from the sounds of the bats you can tell that the guys can really square his pitches. Sometimes he get lucky and are all hit to people. But the babip sometimes in not only luck, is that they are hitting you really hard.
  25. I have some optimism, not for the reasons that you state, but for the schedule. The first half of the Twins schedule is really tough, including the next couple of weeks that includes a road trip with series against Boston, Detroit and Toronto (traditionally tough for the Twins and leading the AL East right now). After that it becomes a little bit easier, with a lot more home games and more intra-division games. If the next couple of week are not a total disaster, I am kind of optimistic.
