  1. Winder pitched yesterday and finally stopped the bleeding after Seattle scored in the first six innings. It looks like he is no longer being considered as a starter, but is able to pitch multiple innings. He's been hounded by arm injuries the last two years (shoulder impingement) and hasn't been very effective either at Minnesota and St. Paul. I don't think he is even in the conversation for a starting spot next year. I do think there's a chance that Winder can be an important bullpen piece next year. I doubt he is put in high leverage situations for the balance of this year. Do the Twins "desperately need a long-relief arm"? Sands has been on the active roster for a majority of the season and he hasn't been in any high-leverage spots in that time. When Sands wasn't on the roster, it was Headrick and again not many opportunites and no high-leverage work. The 13th pitcher on the Twins has almost completely been wasted.
  2. Day off for Kirilloff? I know he's played almost every day, but get nervous when he's not in the lineup against a right hander.
  3. Weird start for the hitters. 5-5 with ball in play and 6 (!) K's.
  4. I’ll confess that I’m biased in favor of lefty first basemen (since at least Keith Hernandez), but AK just looks smooth over there and he’s a much langer (better) target than Arraez or Solano.
  5. Kirby’s ERA vs. the Twins went from 0.00 to 4.50 in one inning.
  6. Ambush of Kirby complete. Wallner goes deep!!!
  7. Nice play AK. No one likes Kirilloff's defense this year. I've always thought he was the best option the Twins had over there. Does anyone agree that he has been a bottom quartile defender at first?
  8. Three wild cards, correct? That would be Tampa Bay, Houston and Toronto. Red Sox are tied for “last one out”.
  9. Signed! Source: mlbtraderumors.com https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/07/twins-sign-first-rounder-walker-jenkins.html
  10. The last disabling injury was............Lewis(?), now that I think about it, it was Miranda. It would seem to me that someone will come up lame in the near future. Injuries seem to come in bunches and cluster in certain positions. Right now, it is relief pitchers and infielders. The Twins current outfield has the following OPS--LF (Gallo 103), CF (Taylor 83) RF (Kepler 100). The primary backup is Castro (89). The Twins need better production than that from their outfield. None of those guys are much better against left handed pitching. They need to add an outfielder who can hit lefties. Pham (character) and Canha (contract) aren't ideal gets, but they fit the bill as far as hitting left handed pitching. More bullpen please. Piecing things together with the likes of Balozovic and Ortega is okay occasionally, but adding depth in the bullpen has to be a priority. Stewart's injury recovery seems to be slow and I, too, wonder if the 25 innings of dominance might be pixie dust. Thielbar has already been on the IL twice with the same injury and no matter how he feels, he might be close to suffering the same injury again.
  11. What I suspected is true—right now the Twins are the best extra-innings team in baseball. They owe their winning record to Manfredball. 10-4 record is both the most extra-innings wins and the best percentage.
  12. Kolten Wong isn't exactly a spray hitter. He has 84 homers in his career and his lifetime OPS is .718. He reminds me of Odor (released today by the Padres) in love with power to the point he's become a bad hitter.
  13. Yes--Hernandez went into a slide trying to make a backhand catch and then pop up, didn't quite stretch enough to catch the ball. He would have had to pop quickly and then make an accurate throw, but it was Donnie Barrels at third. Solano didn't run when Jeffers hit an acceptable bunt. There have been other times when Solano didn't try to take a base that he should have made easily (IMHO).
  14. I was going to write "good outing for Maeda" after he got the K. Now, not so sure. If Morán lets in the inherited runners, Kenta could get tagged with a loss.
  15. Julien has enough speed to be a really good base runner. He isn't, at this point. I hope he's okay.
  16. Six very good at-bats that inning. Wallner and Castro battled and Gallo got to a full count. The three hits netted two runs.WTG.
  17. I'd argue that Arraez was not healthy the last quarter of the season and that Rocco "rested" him against lefties, which would be when to rest him. I guess you'd have to go game to game to see how strict of a platoon situation he was in. Splits vary from year to year. For whatever reason, Max Kepler has had one season only where he was decent against lefties and in fact his OPS in 2019 (his career year) was better against left handers than righties.
