  1. You have your batting order out of whack. Castro was hitting sixth, followed by Santana, Farmer and Vázquez (aka Mirderer’s Row).
  2. Castro through Vázquez are 28-199 with 2 homers and 11 RBI. I'm pretty certain there are pitchers who could do better.
  3. The bottom of the order--historically bad?
  4. Two doubles and a single and only one run, just a little disappointing.
  5. Not a good at-bat from Kirilloff. Nothing was in the zone.
  6. Ump flat out missed the last call. He had defined his strike zone as the box and was consistent ......until the last pitch of the top of the first.
  7. Ball three........errr....called third.
  8. Top four of the Twins' lineup are left handed hitters, followed by Buxton and then two switch hitters. Do the White Sox have any lefties available in their bullpen?
  9. Larnach and Wallner were both born in the same year. It’s not like one guy is 22 and the other in his mid-thirties.
  10. Fangraphs say one MiLB option remaining, but I presume that to be from the start of the 2024 season.
  11. It's a data point, I guess. Santana has been traded several times and signed one-year free agent contracts, but has always been a full-time player. He was coming off his best season in several years. I don't know if any promises about playing time were made (I would hope not), but all Santana has ever done is show up and play.
  12. I'm going to put this in the Larnach thread (it does relate to Trevor directly) but this is a more general question: Has Trevor Larnach's option for 2024 actually been used? Here is what I know. A player may be optioned, but that option doesn't count if a minimum number of days on option don't accumulate. Last year, Kirilloff was optioned after his rehab for his wrist, but within a day or two an injury occurred and he was recalled and it was reported that the option didn't count. This year, Larnach was optioned to St. Paul during Spring Training. He was placed on the minor league IL before the Saints season began and just completed his rehab (at Fort Myers) when he was recalled to replace Wallner. I don't know the minimum number of days a person has to be assigned to the minors in order for the option to be used, and I don't know if an uninjured player for player swap is different than replacing an injured player. I also know there have been occasions when an option was voided because the player was injured when he was optioned. I don't know if that was the case for Larnach.
  13. Santana has not been a part-time player. He's been a major league regular since 2011, exceeding 500 plate appearances every year except the COVID year (when he played every game).
  14. The $$$$ figure in here. Comparing Gallo to Santana, Gallo was 8-9 years younger, but his contract was more than double. So many players have started slowly--Farmer, Castro, Vázquez, Buxton, Margot, Kepler, and Wallner--that Santana's non-production doesn't stand out, but he's been brutal.
  15. Larnach has looked very good in his first several games (SSS). Perhaps he can establish himself in what has been characterized as his last chance with the Twins organization.
  16. To be clear, since Headrick was on optional assignment to St. Paul, he wasn't placed on the major league 60-day IL and taken off the 40-man roster. I should say that is my understanding of the rules, perhaps I am wrong. The Twins website still shows Headrick as being in the minors.
  17. Henriquez has a good arm. It appears he is healthy. I think he has a chance to be a pretty good reliever. He can be optioned back to St. Paul. Guys with options have to be looking over their shoulders with Durán, Topa, Staumont, Alcalá all looking like they could be promoted or activated in the next ten days to two weeks.
  18. Nice job by Paddack. We can play the game of "throw out the worst start" and he has a 2.30 ERA in his other four starts. If the Twins can count on him for the long term, it makes starting pitcher depth less daunting. Also nice to see the players take the extra base, first to third on a single and first to home on a double. I know most won't be satisfied unless the Twins sweep the Sox, but even three of four would be a step in the right direction.
  19. Seven innings for Paddack. I don’t think we’ll see many outings where he gives the Twins seven IP.
  20. It was 4.15 before he faced Baltimore.
  21. More than five years service time, so he can't be optioned without his consent.
  22. I agree with every word written above. The question to answer is where to start as far as making changes. Wallner was optioned, it appears the next player to be demoted will be Varland. Are there any other transactions or role changes to be made? On another thread, I made the case that Paddack deserves some slack. His first two starts were in the acceptable area, short, with a lot of base runners, but only four runs allowed in 8+ innings. He got knocked around big time against Baltimore, but that does happen (see Bailey Ober vs. KC). The veterans holdovers and acquisitions who were supposed to provide quality defense and at-bats have all disappointed. Farmer and Santana appear like they are cooked, while Castro and Margot haven't done the job either. Vázquez has continued to do a Sandy León impersonation. Things will get better. A healthy Byron Buxton isn't a no-power .210 hitter. Carlos Correa is a star and maybe a superstar, Royce Lewis might be the Twins' best player. They couldn't all stay injured all year, could they? The front office deserves all the scorn leveled at them. In the end, they'll be judged on results and so far the results are dreadful.
