  1. Based on draft position it would be a huge accomplishment if Matthews makes it even as a middle reliever. Lots of wacky comments in this thread like the Twins are botching some great talent, it's silly.
  2. Ross's numbers have changed so much that arguably it's not too early to consider a breakout. Doubled and homered today. He has a very unusual background as a college player who faced marginal competition throughout his amateur career. Now, step one is getting into the picture as a 27th or 28th guy (i.e. in St Paul barring injury). That is very doable because he plays good defense -- it doesn't take much to be slightly better than Ryan Kriedler at the plate. I can imagine that pretty easily. Beyond that, I'd want to see it in AAA first, but I dunno, Willi Castro-ish? Less offense more defense.
  3. Good article . . . I think the complaints about Twins roster construction are about more than the player count though. Realistically a lot of it is frustration with offensive inconsistency, esp. of course Larnach and Wallner over the years. Strongly disagree about Outman however, Roden is 26 and may as well play part time in the Majors.
  4. Yes it's a small sample, but still, what Martin has done from a plate discipline perspective is pretty crazy. Below is the MLB leaderboard for everyone over 20 PAs. Martin is #1 by far and would be borderline top 5% if his chase rate *doubled*. Now, some of this is platoon advantage, along with sample size. But still, hard to ignore an outlier like this.
  5. Roden is 26, there's no reason he should be in AAA because of Outman. Outman's PAs aren't even competitive. It's like he's a lefty specialist reliever who hasn't hit since high school. His defense isn't even that great. Move on.
  6. I'd be shocked if Ellwanger or Quick stayed in Fort Myers all season, unless they're not pitching well. Moring has really interesting statcast data. The system so far can't tell apart his slider and changeup even though the changeup is coming in at like 1,000 rpm.
  7. I'm not convinced it's better to have Roden in AAA vs playing part time in the Majors. Also Kriedler might be a better option at this point if Outman really is cooked at the plate. I think the Twins will let it play out for now. If everyone is healthy at the end of April and Outman is still struggling, I could see a change.
  8. lol. If going hitless in one game was abnormal, baseball would be a very different game. Typical batting average of .500
  9. Lee really wasn't that good even in the minors. He hit in college, so do a lot of guys that go nowhere professionally. He's not a good athlete and he just can't hit mlb pitching . . .
  10. Lee looks so bad. How long will they be able to send him out there like that?
  11. Gray reminds me potentially of Kyle Farmer, who peaked as a solid bench player ages 30-32 after improving his hitting while still being good defensively.
  12. It's not a good sign that Tom Pohlad thinks vibes can be worth 10 wins. Just from an intelligence and baseball preparation perspective.
  13. The Twins themselves recognized this and made significant changes to their international operations over the past several years. So your observations in that regard add nothing. Meanwhile, none of that explains how you could possibly evaluate this current class, you literally have no clue what you're talking about but somehow felt confident in trashing it?
  14. This seems really speculative if not outright fictional. You don't seem to be recognizing how this stuff works on the ground -- there's no mystery among any teams about who the most exciting 13 or 14 years old are. The alignment between players and teams is very complicated and highly dependent on interpersonal relationships in the Dominican. Player evaluation is secondary. Every club has a huge miss rate on 16 year olds. There are other similar comments in this thread, basically issuing strong opinions on a subject without even the most cursory understanding of it.
  15. I also like the strategy of focusing on a quantity of second tier guys. The younger a player is, the more unpredictable their future. Going all in on 16 year olds is risky.
  16. Kreidler is so bad I just read this as a vote of confidence in Kaelen Culpepper. There's a good chance the Twins already rate KC as their best SS.
  17. The Twins don't actually have excess pitching though. This thread and others like it are full of complaints that the Twins don't acquire premium talent in exchange for mediocre talent. I am 100% certain that if other clubs offer the Twins massive talent upgrades for no reason, the Twins will happily accept.
  18. Neither Ober nor SWR can bring back anything impactful. Ryan or Lopez is just taking with one hand and giving to the other. Get worse in the rotation for an upgrade elsewhere. Why? There's no guarantee even the current rotation will be a strength. There is no magical series of trades out there. This isn't a video game.
  19. It's what they can afford, I really don't see the point of pretending there's some easy magic fix and Falvey just loves losing instead. It's a childish way of looking at the situation.
  20. The kinds of trades people want are very rare and, at the end of the day, trades shuffle assets around but don't change their immediate value. The Twins need a bunch of additional value but can't take on payroll and prospects take time/are unpredictable. Shortcuts are a fantasy.
  21. I don't understand what all the armchair GMs would do with no budget. Make fantasy trades that can't happen in real life I guess.
  22. It's pure fantasy to think the Twins can accomplish anything by going into "rebuild" mode. They don't have enough assets to make any difference. They should try to win as best they can under the budgetary constraints, end of story.
  23. Mountcastle is probably better than Hoskins, and cheaper if O's pick up some salary. I'm not a big fan but it's not the worst idea at low cost. Mayo has always had skeptics among scouts despite his power, and with his struggles I don't see teams offering much for him.
