  1. So does Gordon or Arraez now become a trade asset at the deadline to make some upgrades to chase a post season birth? Lewis doesn't quite have the versatility as either, Miranda maybe but not quite. I think the key to this is Larnach, Kiriloff and Garlick. Who sticks in the OF when healthy and does Kiriloff make Arraez odd man out?
  2. Kirilloff hand/wrist injury is a long term concern for me. Hasn't been the same for almost closing in on a year (counting off-season) and has lost power in his swing. So he may be in AAA for weeks to come until fully healthy. How will we describe full healthy when you need your wrists/hands for a swing? Bright future for him when last year but what is the future now going to look like. Here is hoping he can be back to pre injury but not sure that will happen
  3. When you look at tonight you have to appreciate the solid foundation of youth on this team and potentially for many years to come. Blend that in with veterans and mix and match hot bats to help offset the cool bats and wins are possible. I have always believed in pitching and defense is the key to 2/3rds of your win totals and offense mashing the ball to offset a bad pitching day get's you the remainders for your the year. Fun, fast game to watch. Ready baseball just like ready golf. Keep the wheels rolling and finish the tigers off today.
  4. While it was 40 degrees and guys have been sitting on the bench in jackets/beanies/gloves etc., they are still professional athletes in a professional stadium. It's not college where a guy sits on bench and then tries a couple practice swings in the on deck circle to get warm. If the communication from staff is there vs looking at an excel spreadsheet, Correa or someone would be inside the stadium in a warm batting cage swinging away to get warm for a potential pinch hit at bat. Take cold weather out of it, Rocco managing by numbers vs managing by instinct(s) hurts more times than not. Managing by gut/instincts was Dusty Baker and Astros taking Rocco behind the wood shed in the playoffs couple years ago. Rocco has much to learn as a experienced manager
  5. I don't see an infatuation with slugging % of a player who isn't a slugger. Some stat categories aren't worth it, but that is the world stats have gone to. Each player better have some power or they aren't good narrative shouldn't apply when I guy can put the ball in play, singles hitter with an occasional I really got into one. I'm fine with what he brings and it isn't power to the table. He can hit a ball, doesn't have to be 400+ feet, he isn't built that way
  6. Kepler 4th OF or a 4 OF rotation, not sure it matters other than Kepler getting majority of the starts is troublesome as he hasn't looked great. I would have Kiriloff at 1b 5-6 days of the week if his wrist can hold up. Sano, brutal at the plate, plain and simple. Youth movement in outfield and keep Larnach in rotation, see if we can get him going at some point. Two called 3rd strikes with runners on base was awful for him. Kind of stuck I guess is what I'm getting at.
  7. bases loaded and you look at one right down the middle for strike 3 looking. Come on Larnach
  8. Jeffers with 2 days rest... Get's the lion share of behind the plate duties, so not a bad thing to give him today and tomorrow off
  9. Just thinking the same thing, no information as to why
  10. Let's say he gets 650 PA this year. Over his career his avg has been 694 plate appearances. Let's put his slow start into perspective and it won't change unless he gets few PA's this. Dude is making $50K an at bat
  11. 1st pitch swinging on fast ball with a runner on, you better hit hard and not a routine groundball. Routine it was. Not a good at bat. situational hitting still lacking with Professional ballplayers
  12. Correa with some large paycheck outs so far this year. Overall team not hitting the ball well. Gordon, nice surprise. Joe Ryan looks very good as a young arm for the Twins for years to come or when they decide to not pay him.
  13. So bottom of the order Jeffers and Kepler get on base to set the table for the big three and the big three went 0-fer. About sums up the day on the offensive offense. Ryan one bad pitch and gets the L. On to the next one.
  14. 70 pitches might be it for Ryan. One mistake so to speak and could be on losing end.
  15. What is CCO? I'm not the most with it. I have Apple Music but not what the hell I'm doing.
  16. or Spanish radio for free on MLB.tv app. WTF
  17. So I'm too cheap to pay for MLB tv online. Is there a online radio station that I can try. Audacy app says The Wolf but they are playing country music
  18. played in 73 game for twins and only 10 at catcher last year. So yes, not a good catcher
  19. really depends on Kiriloff and is he taking over 1st base on a more regular basis. If not, Kiriloff is your LF, Kepler stays in RF and Gordon/Arraez are rotational. Do we have some pieces and do they have extra bodies, sure do, but 1B has to be settled and then dominoes can go from there. Right now we are stuck in a holding pattern unless we believe Martin or Lewis are your next outfielders and play the corners. My gut tells me Lewis stays at short to build up game experience as Correa opts out. So is Martin the guy? Settle 1B and see what happens.
  20. good article and what I see in Jeffers is quiet confidence no panic approach at the plate. short season '20 he had not problem seeing pitches, working the count like he did in college and minors and then getting a pitch to hit with 2 strikes. in '21 same approach but missed his pitch more times than not, thus the .199 avg. Still disciplined approach, doesn't jump at too many 1st pitch at bats. Has good power and decent speed for a 6'4 230 + lb backstop. Give me .240, 20-25 HR's at back 1/3 of lineup, take that every year
  21. would be curious to hear/read how the intrasquad games are going and player positions in those games. Maybe coaches are doing just what we are discussing to gauge readiness to be able to play all over the diamond at a high level vs just being so-so. on different topic, hate that there are no longer MLB free games of the week for spring training. MLB and fans getting the shaft for watching games till season starts. Oh well, not ready to pony up $100+ bills yet for season pass
  22. Larnach has another good couple of days, if we are abundant in the same type of players others have said, could be time to move him in as part of a package for SP.
  23. 3 year opt out deal works for both parties. For Correa, prove I'm the best at the position to get another look each year on more money, etc.etc.etc. For Twins, great move in that you are allowing some youth at the SS position to work on are they the guy for the future at that spot. Good move to allow Lewis/Martin to work in the system for another year, takes some pressure off but it also generates some pressure knowing you may get that chance to be the guy 1 year from now. Downside is Correa gets hurt (can't control what-ifs) misses some time, doesn't opt out because health is a concern. Then we get him for another year to roll the dice all over again. STARTING PITCHING has to be the key moving forward in the next couple of days. Monday, team could be totally different again
  24. Front office with a strategy? Jury is still out in my opinion. Made some head scratching moves/non-moves thus far in their tenure, but they sure have brought the buzz back this week, whether good or bad just depends on the seat you sit in. Starting pitching still is questionable, so maybe the A's become that dance partner over the next couple of days. Go Twins!
