  1. I don't think that's a very safe interpretation. The Trumpty post would be the same topical satire if the person who posted it had claimed authorship. Conversely, re-posting a meme that merely repeats somebody's insulting nickname wouldn't fly, any moreso than typing the text directly as one's own words. I feel like adding that satire is especially tricky to pull off. Done right, it's so deadpan that some readers will completely misunderstand the author's point. I've fallen into that trap enough times that by now I usually include some kind of extra spoiler just to be safe. Imagine Jonathan Swift writing "impoverished Irish children are delicious whether baked, boiled or fricasied. Just kidding." That's me now.
  2. For context, the "she" is in reference to this post being replied to: So, in a thread about the President, a tangent about the House Speaker's interaction with the President was used as a launching point for a threadjack about a different member of the House - start a new thread if a discussion about an unrelated but explosive topic is desired. Second, the derisive name was well out of bounds. Third, the introduction of "spanking" was extremely problematic. While for simplicity I chose to highlight only one of these items when the warning point was issued, taken together it was an easy decision to remove the post, and either of the last two reasons was point-worthy., even in an area of the site where extra latitude is allowed. Warning points, at least until 3 are accumulated, are intended to get a member's attention toward needed change. It apparently achieved that minimal aim. Hopefully you come to appreciate and embrace the shared values stated in the site's Comment Policy. We also take long-term posting history into account when assigning warning points versus just a PM to discuss.
  3. Thanks for locating the post you had in mind. It's from more than two years ago, and is an image rather than text, so my attempts to search for it didn't come up with it. I'm glad you note that it's satire. While "Trumpty Dumpty" in a vacuum would be very questionable, the item was actually topical, clearly starting with the controversial Wall (not much changes in two years, eh?), linking to "who else had issues with a wall?" and then tying together the similarity to the name of the modified nursery rhyme. Not exactly Swiftian, perhaps, but not brainless either. The use of Trumpty as a name was not an epithet hurled, and that's probably why it didn't receive moderator action. It's two years ago, so I don't remember if there was any discussion at all, but there probably wasn't. But in general we take a dim view of derisive names like Byron "Buston", so substituting two similar words in the representative's name didn't pass muster, in your recent post. Now, if you want to allow a discussion of your verbatim post, rather than the distillation you provided of it here, I can send you a copy and you can post it here, to satisfy the curiosity that TheLeviathan and perhaps others have.
  4. While it's natural to worry about the stress on the arm when pitching at max effort, I wonder whether these same mechanical adjustments will actually serve to reduce the risk of injury. I mean, assuming the same effort, any torque not resulting in MPH on the baseball had to be going somewhere. Does this layman's view of (bio)mechanical engineering intersect reality anywhere?
  5. Certainly no apologies are needed, and I could be wrong. I just didn't want someone getting excited over what is possibly a reporting anomaly. Buxton was quoted elsewhere as saying he was paying particular attention to being more selective on the first pitchh, making this statistic especially strange.
  6. Maybe someone will fill in the facts, but I think it was stated (last year?) that Gameday feeds are not with full detail in many cases, so a lot of plate appearances will look like they were of the 1-pitch variety.
  7. I was about to say that Donald has no particular dog in this fight, and that the grown-ups will handle this in the usual manner of the past many decades... but then I thought to look at a map: http://time.com/4629308/donald-trump-business-deals-world-map/#India Donald's quotes while in office that Pakistan has not done "a damn thing for us" in regard to terror havens (far from an unaccountable foreign policy position, to be sure) takes on a different tinge that can't go unnoticed in diplomatic circles, when you consider Trump Tower Mumbai. Hopefully Mike Pompeo is adept at handling this addition to the already tricky terrain, such as quietly offering to be "good cop" and finding ways to carry through on any promises.
  8. "My mental ability has kept me from being in the big leagues more than my physical ability." That is ... I'm going to go with... awesome.
  9. The Atherosclerotic, a site devoted to really old prospects. https://theatherosclerotic/for_real/no_really/john-sickels/
  10. Also, home unis? There is so much difference between what they wear on the road versus at home. And, there are variations even within that.
  11. The article that kicks off this discussion seems to be a distillation from an original article in The Athletic. It's behind a paywall, and I'm a cheapskate. Has anyone consulted it, to gain a bit more of the context? The snippet that is provided to us cheapskates indicates Baldelli is quoted - he seemed OK with it, but it was only a snippet. One thing I'd want to confirm is that author Dan Hayes is providing all recent quotes, and not a mishmash of things said during the off-season and now in Ft Myers.
  12. Probably. Although, it's unlikely he even gets the chance to bat "all spring" with the big club. A non-roster invitee, even a highly touted one, is usually one of the early cuts, for a variety of reasons. Currently .400 is his OPS, not his BA. So this eventuality isn't especially likely to come to pass anyway. Sincerely, Captain Buzzkilliroff
  13. Can you point me to the Trumpty post? The site's search tool turns up only your references to it. I tried a few additional ways of searching, without any results either.
  14. Moderator's note: You know a good way to draw moderators' attention to oneself? Invite discussion of moderation policy in a forum thread about another topic. Please refer again to the site's Comment Policy, and note especially the various ways to pursue questions about site moderation, such as opening a discussion topic in the Questions About MinnCentric forum. The tangent about it in this thread ends here.
  15. ...and that the haves take for granted.
  16. Socialism? When the gubmint gets involved, I mean beyond the Antitrust Exemption to owners, I'll pay attention to the rest of your argument. This is a capitalistic negotiation between partners in an asymmetric business relationship. Somehow, you've bought the billionaires' story that the millionaires are the bad guys.
  17. Do you have corresponding growth rates for revenue, operating income, and franchise values?
  18. That does ring a bell. OTOH here is the starting lineup last Saturday at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota: 3B Adrianza SS Torreyes RF Cave DH Duda 1B Austin LF Wade CF Granite 2B Gordon C Telis Only about 3 of these are even strong chances to come North on Opening Day as backups. I guess you can stretch "semi-regular" to cover the first 5 of them.
  19. I'm pretty sure autocorrect turned "starters" into "stars". That's my story and I'm sticking with ithaca.
  20. I wonder if home-road advantages are more pronounced during Spring Training. Especially where there are split squads, don't teams usually send the scrubs on the road, and keep the stars for the home fans to enjoy?
  21. You can review the lengthy thread at the time it was announced, and find plenty of opinion on all sides of the matter. There were people with the prescience to call it on the spot what it turned out to be in retrospect: a bad trade. (You and I were both silent on the merits of the deal, at least in that thread. ) http://twinsdaily.com/topic/20687-hicks-will-be-traded
  22. Unless they can opt for free agency from the start of their careers, whatever number of years they are tied to their team amounts to guaranteed contracts (complete with opt-outs!) in the team's favor. I think it's a fair symmetry to allow players to ask for similar in return, when that time finally comes.
  23. In 2018 across the majors, OPS with RISP was .753, while with bases empty it was only .710. I'm not saying Castro isn't clutch, just that the situation lends itself to higher production ... for at least a couple of reasons I could think of but which aren't a tangent probably worth pursuing in a thread about catchers.
